I can't say I feel bad for him, but I would say he has now gotten what he deserves, and we should lay off. I'm sure he regrets it like nothing else he has ever done, and his punishment was plenty harsh.

I was trying to explain all the drama to a non-poker playing friend of mine, and his response was "What the hell' These people all act like freaks." All I could think to tell him is that many are young, immature, and have way too much money, and too few good role models. Not that I'm a great poker player or anything, but I used to bench 285 at 180 lbs. I rarely bench now, but I just deadlifted 350 at my current 160 lbs.

I smoke weed everyday. In fact the questions, "Are you awake'" and "Are you stoned'" always have the same answers for me. And it has definitely had its downsides and is something I want to get out of my life now. But if I were actually making money playing poker, I'd be happy to keep smoking. Wow, I can't believe some of you people. All that matters here is that Linda's employer pays wages based on the assumption of tips. If they thought everyone was a bunch of jerks like so many of you, they would pay more, but they assume people will tip in a service industry, and thus their employees will make an average of such and such. And their best employees, like Linda for instance, will have shots dealing high stakes games for high stakes tips. They just need to play it like the lottery, make it so a good percentage of the revenues go to education or something like that. And I really hate Sonny now, after his recent comments about continuing to ban alcohol sales on Sunday. He actually said he will veto any changes because the ban forces people to learn time management skills and remember to buy their liquor on Saturday.

No one ever said there aren't gambling addicts out there that have a problem, but we already tried banning addictive things with something called Prohibition, and now the war on drugs, and both just made things worse, not better. Now a gambling addict is not just losing his/her money and self-respect, but breaking the law as well. As study after study has shown, treatment is far more effective than negative reinforcement.

If a player is losing for years, that's not variance, that's being a bad poker player. Sounds to me like someone has been fooling themself into thinking they are really good and it's just the cards betraying them. In fact you sound exactly like a lot of gambling addicts, making excuses for your self-caused problems.

Yeah, but he also spent the first two days of the tourney building a stack that was big enough for him to afford to take the worst of it and suckout. He wouldn't have been able to make those gutsy calls that turned into great luck if not for his earlier great play. But then you probably already understand that.

One time I played a sit and go where I change my expression to match my cards. Good cards, I smiled, bad cards I was angry, etc. About halfway through someone pointed out what I was doing in chat, and then proceeded to think I was lying thereafter. I wasn't, and won the SNG despite telling people what kind of cards I had on every hand.

There are a lot of issues that are more important to me than online poker. And many Republican politicians still share my values of personal responsibility, liberal social policy, and conservative economic policy, whereas the INternet Daily Kos wing of the Democrats is moving them way too far left for me. Also, if you did somehow vote the Republicans out, polls would show that gambling was less than 1% of the difference, and no one is going to give a shit about it. The general public really couldn't gie a shit about internet gambling.

At least fasting won't affect my ability to rail. I am surprised that they didn't realize this conflict, but I'm also used to it. My college had homecoming on Yom Kippur my last year in school. Plenty of protests ensued, but it didn't make a difference, they do what the alumni want.
