Re(1): how did you rise above it - Low limit grind/VARIANCE/TILT I have been through the phase your are describing, and I would venture that many others on this site have too. I can't help you much with the tilt aspect, but I can address low limit variance from my own history. You decide if it is applicable to you. Often, I was frustrated at how many times I was rivered, cracked, screwed, donkey kicked, etc., when I was betting the best hand and ousted by someone that had no business being in the pot. Reminding myself that I want those calls from people that were way behind didn't really feel much better. I would start spending a lot of time agonizing ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(3): Cheapest place to say with Vegas with no bugs Just got back from staying at the Four Queens for less than $50/night including the weekend. Also, best single deck black jack in town. Room was remodeled...meaning flat screen tv, a new carpet and new drapes. The sink still takes a long time to drain. Nevertheless, there was plenty of loose poker action at the Nugget across the street, as well as the usual haunts on the strip...and you just can't beat the people watching downtown. One person drinking from a plastic football while their buddy puked in the other one. My friend saw someone literally crap their pants while walking down the ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(5): Blackjack Card Counting Counting is not hard. In fact it's very easy. What's hard is counting perfectly, making the right adjustments to Basic Strategy, ordering a drink from the cocktail lady, talking to the people to the left and right...all in an effort to look like you are NOT counting. If you are a good counter, meaning you make money at it, casinos will 86 you if they catch you. If you suck at it, you can count out loud and they'll comp you dinner. I've counted for years. The money is marginal. In the right games (meaning, the right rules), you can get the edge in your favor by about .5 to 1%. Not much. This ... Posted in: Off Topic |

Re(3): The concept of angling. ^^^^ I agree, total horse shit from the floor. People talk during poker hands and it's normal. If I'm contemplating a raise/call/fold and ask someone if they have THE HAND, do I really expect to get the pot if they lie' Of course not. I'm merely mining for information as to the true strength of the hand. If they have air and lie to me, they didn't shoot angles. However, if we are at a showdown and I muck my hand first because the opponent says they have the nuts and then turnover a loser, that IS shooting an angle. Nevertheless, I'd be the dumbass for not tabling my hand face up. This crap ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(2): The right fold or not? I see why some of you would say shove here, but even though he's very low on chips, he's going to be taking 66 up against two players. If there was only one likely caller, I would agree that shoving before getting blinded off is definitely in order. However, facing two likely callers, who will check it down from the flop on, I'd rather get through the blinds and take my chances with something else. Just MHO. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(3): Pocket Jacks Decision OK, I understand. Then I think you approach was sound and one of two ways to play the hand the way most reasonable people would deem "correct". The other would have been to have put the raise in hoping at best for both seat 2 and 4 to fold and take down the pot pre-flop. The next best outcome on that would have been to get called by seat 2 but have seat 4 fold, in which case you hope for a check by him on the K high flop, allowing you to take the pot then. If instead, you get a fold from seat 2 before the flop, you are going to go the distance with seat 4 no matter what, so you would have ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): The right fold or not? Out of position against two players, and you do not have enough chips to call and try to "play" the hand after the flop unless you flop a set or a straight draw to your 66. I pick a better spot here when there are 75 people left. I'd rather be opening with a raise or a shoving against a limper when I have position with this hand. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

What do you determine your edge to be in this game' Just posing the question, because table selection can have as much to do with this as the hand itself. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(8): AA does it really pay to race 1st Hand!!!! It seems that the real question is whether doubling up is worth the risk at this point in the tournament...and this will have to do with the "value" of chips early versus chips late. Doubling up on the first hand may look cool, but the chips you accumulate now are not worth as much as the same situation would present if you posed the same question on the final table. So, it's not quite the +EV others may think. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(3): Poker Players Alliance signs D'Amato as Lobbiest Not sure why people seem to be so non-chalant about this. Online poker is literally in a death rattle at the hands of brick and mortar casino corporations and their influence on Washington politics. The PPA has been pretty weak up until now, but they've finally got someone that represents a real voice. This is a really big deal for those of you that like playing online. I would have thought this move would have gotten everyone more excited. We should all be pushing our friends to support the PPA at this point to keep the momentum going. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): Poker Players Alliance signs D'Amato as Lobbiest Anyone who takes their online play seriously should be excited by this. Sure wish the PPA had been able to do this a year ago, but that's not important now. The important thing NOW is that the PPA finally has a big name who knows how to work Washington. Great Job Michael Bolcerek on getting D'Amato signed up! This should be a new call to arms to join the PPA. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(5): How many Royal Flushs in your lifetime I've had 3 in 3 years. The sickest thing (not a joke, but some will dispute, naturally) was that two of them were followed on the very next hand by a straight flush. Only one made for a really huge pot. Two royals were in NL and one in Limit. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(2): Do you call or fold here ? I really like ActionJeff's input on this one, suggesting a call is not a bad play. It's definitely a tough one...I'd like to say I have the discipline to dump it, because the redraws there usually kill me in those spots. I have to think about how I can play the rest of the tournament with the chips I have left if I fold. Seems like either play is reasonable there. What got turned over after the decision is irrelevant IMHO. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(3): Chopping 101: "Good chops"?? Warning: Advice is only worth what you pay for it... My recommendation is that at these levels you practice poker, not chopping. I understand your bankroll situation, but if you are improving you game, your bankroll will follow. I wouldn't chop these levels even if I was a horrible underdog to my opponent. If this was for thousands of dollars I could see making deals. People will may say you are a jerk for declining a chop, so you just have to decide if you're playing to win or not. Again, those big equity decisions mean a lot more when the final table dollars are much more ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): For all those that believe stars has a rigged/faulty RNG You can't go figure the probabilities of events that have already occured and then assign them anything but 100%. You professor knows this. What you need to do is use your data to predict a lack of random behavior for future events. If you can do that, you have a case. If not, all you're doing is cherry picking outliers from otherwise normal distributions. Posted in: Bad Beats |
