Read this book a few years back and really liked it. Believe there is a second one out now. Much easier read than The Three Pillars of Zen. Also, reading Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Pretty damn interesting so far.

I'm in the military, and to be honest you sound like a butt hurt asshole in this post. I don't think most people are thanking you for going into a foreign country and doing what you were told, regardless of whether it helps them or not. I've said about half a dozen times it wasn't going to be free. Of all things, this is really going to be the barrier for new competition to enter the market against Comcast, Cox, etc' I'm not saying cost makes it right or wrong, I'm saying its very unlikely to have any sort of impact to any of these companies.

Yeah, because providing Internet is an expensive process for Comcast who just so happened to profit $955 million in the 4th quarter alone last year. I'm sure they can't afford to give out an "expensive" product like this to homes who have low incomes.

Do a quick google search and you'll find libraries across the nation are closing or practicing furloughs, the ones I found were at UCSD and major cities. I'm sure inner city libraries aren't at the top of the list.

Like I said, I didn't read this article but the one on MSN so I'm assuming some things are different. Obviously I don't believe we should spend money helping pay for internet for some over paying for life essentials of others, however, what I read said it was paid for by the families, not tax payers. Maybe I'm just feeling extra sympathetic cause I'm in the middle of a developmental psychology class and I read about this every day :/

I didn't read the above article so I don't know the specifics of what it says. The MSN article mentioned nothing about anything being free. Additionally, I think its a bit closed minded to assume that because someone is poor they are not interested in improving their education, as thus their chances at changing their situation. I'm not saying no social media stuff is going to take place, obviously it will. Maybe should work in limitations to certain sites for providing a discounted price'

I'm pretty sure families that are that impoverished aren't going to be going for internet over food/clothing/shelter. Besides, the article I read said this $10 internet will be offered to families who's kids qualify for free school lunches. Obviously people who are unable to provide basic life necessities aren't going to be owning PCs.

Yes, actually, because the Internet is pretty much a basic necessity by most high schools and colleges today, nevermind the next 10-20 years. Is it really so bad if a bunch of broke ass families can provide their kids internet to study on, or do whatever else, then be out doing god knows what. The whole thing is a collaboration to provide at risk youth with cheap internet AND affordable laptops ($200 or so) so that these kids can access educational opportunities that they couldn't normally afford. Maybe attempting to bridge the educational gap and poverty line will help our country in the ...

You go through that stage where you really struggle to focus your concentration and your mind wanders anywhere and everywhere. You should definitely try it. I go every now and again to a place in Scottsdale. To really get the best experience I'd go 3-4 times over the course of two weeks because it kind of has a learning curve. It's almost like meditating because you have no sensory input so you're essentially left to wander around your head, and you do. You'll be laying there thinking about dumb shit the first few times, but after you learn to kinda of "turn off" your thoughts and lay there its pretty awesome. Fuck Paul Dee, he's the biggest fucking slime bag hypocrite in the whole fucked up NCAA "system." I hope his ass gets dropped by the NCAA, he's been the AD at two of the biggest NCAA violations in history. Ironic how he was selected to the infractions committee following major violations.
