Re:College or poker again mulliganstu its not like this stuff is hard i agree. Just boring as shit sometimes and my brain's somewhere else. Which is a pretty good sign you're nowhere near where you need to be mentally to play poker professionally. Maybe a poker analogy will help you appreciate school a little bit more: a) Your parents are backing you so it's a freeroll. b) You can't be sucked out on. c) You're more or less guaranteed to cash as long as you show up and stay in your seat with your eyes open. Anyone ready to play poker professionally would spot this as a huge +EV situation and ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:peter eastgate wins Anyone trying to comment on the FT based on ESPN's coverage needs to do themselves a favor and just sit down and be quiet, seriously. 21 hours of play was condensed into 2 hours. 6 hours of heads-up play was condensed into 20 minutes. If all you saw was the coverage, you have no clue. Bottom line, Eastgate ran the table start to finish taking short breaks to manhandle several bananas. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:What's pathetic about this UIGEA rulling is that, That's more or less what I think is going on, yes. Think about it - right now when the tourists leave the money leaves, but if Harrah's could lock down online gaming, they turn every home in America into a virtual Harrah's casino. Unfortunately for them, they're late to the party. Pokerstars, Full Tilt, Party Poker and Ultimate Bet have a stranglehold on American internet gamers. So they're staring at tens of billions in potential revenue that is just out of reach... unless for some strange reason these existing sites were no longer able to service American ... Re:What's pathetic about this UIGEA rulling is that, Can you provide a citation for this' Everything I've read has indicated precisely the opposite. While their "talking heads" might speak highly of internet gaming, their MONEY went to supporting UIGEA and, as always, money talks louder than words. Here's a quote from an article discussing this: Despite these happenings, the infamous Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act is passed in October of 2006 - primarily at the hands of Senate Majority Leader, Senator Bill Frist, who sneakily attaches the bill to a "must-pass" non-debatable Port Security Bill in the ... Re:What's pathetic about this UIGEA rulling is that, it's just another act by big brother that tries to control people. Nah. It's not about big brother or controlling people, it's about making sure money gets into the right hands. Are these idiots in DC seriously concerned over who does what with their own money' No, of course not - but casinos are and casinos give lots of money to "these idiots in DC" who then magically are concerned about internet gambling. With the technology we have today, it would take these poker sites less than a week to come up with a solution to eliminate the possibility of underage gamblers ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Hilarious dealer gaffe @ the Rio Playing 1/3 to pass the time before the FT heads up play started; about 90 minutes into the session we're in the middle of a hand, board is Q'7'8'4'. I'm not in the hand but I'm watching the dealer and he's looking at one of the burn cards - moving it around, rubbing the back of it, examining it. Then he throws his hand up to call the floor over and shouts "I need a new seven of diamonds over here. New seven of diamonds please." ... Thankfully the pot was small and the table was casual. Re:post here if you thought Espn wsop final table sucked The FT coverage completely misrepresented the heads up play. Ivan played a better game and Eastgate caught cards but the coverage made it look like Ivan just dumped his stack on a few key hands. Ridiculous. Im sure Dennis Philips is one of the nicest people I will never meet but I was so tilted seeing his fanbase all dressing like him, come on that was so unecessary. Anyone agree with me on this' I'm pretty sure Ford probably had something to do with that and it wasn't Dennis' or his fans' idea necessarily. Re:Reopening Betting (NLHE) Thanks. As a follow-up, is it relevant if the combined raises of players total the amount of a full legal raise' Blinds 100/200 Player A posts SB. Player B posts BB. Player C raises 200 to 400. Player D raises 800 to 1200. Player E raises 100 to 1300 and is all-in. Player F raises 750 to 2000 and is all-in. Player A folds. Player B folds. Player C calls. Can Player D now raise because the combined amounts of the raises (100 + 750) is actually greater than the amount of a full legal raise' Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Reopening Betting (NLHE) I know there are a variety of rules surrounding this, but I'm looking for a quick fact-check on what is considered the "standard" for reopened betting in NLHE. Here is hte best quote I've found thus far: "All raises must be equal to or greater than the size of the previous bet or raise on that betting round, except for an all-in wager. A player who has already checked or called may not subsequently raise an all-in bet that is less than the full size of the last bet or raise." However, I think even this is slightly inaccurate. My understanding is: "All ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): WCOOP ME Winner under investigation I guess the most frightening/worrisome thing is that no technology exists with enough saturation to even begin to take steps to resolve this problem. The absolute worst a site can do right now is seize funds after the fact... which is incredibly minor considering these people didn't have the funds to begin with. It's basically the equivalent of saying "This never happened." Sure, they're out their buy-in, but the odds you're going to get busted are slim enough not to really impact your bottom line if you're winning with any regularity (as I'm sure most of these "teams" are without a ... Re(1): Those who thought I would fail.. were correct If I'm not helping it's only because you're not actually listening to what I'm saying. You sit there saying that you don't know why you do what you do and you're trying to "figure it out" and I'm pointing out exactly what the problem is... I'm not just nitpicking your semantics, I'm pointing out how you are justifying your actions internally and that's encouraging you to play irresponsibly and at ridiculous stakes. For example, the idea that going on a bender once a month is "rare" or that it's okay to take a shot "occasionally." Problem is you probably have no clear definitions for what ... Re(3): Those who thought I would fail.. were correct The problem was that I took occasional shots above my bankroll with the intention of quiting if I lost or won that buy-in. If once a month is "rare" I can only assume "occasional" means once a week or more' I think what you're referring to as occasional most people would consider fairly regular. "Taking shots" is precisely the opposite of good bankroll management. Good short term results are meaningless. You could take your monthly winnings and stake them on a hand of Blackjack and see good results for 6+ months but that doesn't make it a wise way to manage your money. I also hesitate to ... It has nothing to do with your willingness to give a buy-in back, it's this: 5. Re(1): Those who thought I would fail.. were correct There's a big difference between "Tilt" and impatience resulting in the desire to prematurely move up levels and hit it big. I'm sure if you went on a tear and quadrupled your bankroll at $10/20 we wouldn't be hearing about your "problem" with Tilt and how you need to work on your bankroll management... we would be hearing about your success story and how solid, skillfull poker allowed you to turn $100 into $4000 in such a short period of time. Re(2): What type of poker has the least variance? The more tables you play simultaneously without reducing your quality of play will reduce your variance as a function of time because you will be playing more hands per minute. Unless you're of the opinion that watching what your opponents do has nothing to do with your quality of play (which I trust is not the case) then it is impossible to increase the number of tables you play without decreasing your quality of play. Re(6): Those who thought I would fail.. were correct Yes, turning $100 into $1,300 in a few weeks is definately playing bad. Not necessarily, but it's certainly an indication that you might be playing far outside your bankroll. Just because you got lucky and went on a run does not mean you were playing skillfully or being disciplined about your bankroll management. Posted in: Poker Discussion |
