Re(1): Do I ultimately have to race?? after the initial raise + the blinds and antes taking a coinflip is a + EV situation for both parties because its approx 50/50 and you are getting better than 1 to 1 on your money. this is a marginal edge that you have to capitalize on in tourneys. You need to take these from time to time and you need to get lucky to win a tournament. (this is assuming however that you do infact have a coinflip- you dont HAVE to call with 22 because you "are sure" that he has two overs etc.) then other types of pot odds questions come into play Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): the weak aggressive player?? i would probs just call this guy down way more often even if its just with a high card. Also you dont have to let him dictate the flow of the game. His style would indicate that his comfort zone is with small ball pots i would try to push him out of his comfort zone and reraise him more often and try to make big pots where he will have tough decisions. Also limp raising on the button more often would be a pretty good play with good or marginal hands. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): leak possibly? what do u do here? i think most ways that you would wanna play are ok. a smooth call/checkraise on a non-scary flop is good. idk if this is a donk play but i like a reraise also either about half his stack or just all in is ok this is especially true if you do have a LAG image like you said because he might call you with a lower pair. a fold is a tiny bit weak but i dont think its bad either. Calling for set equity however is bad. theres nowhere near enough implied odds. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(2): Where should I Draw the Line on going Rebuy Crazy during 1st hour of $100rebuy??????? Thoughts and Ideas welcomed Phatcat, i really like the stuff you have to say and you made some really good points. i especailly like the this comment because a lot of people overlook that idea which should be pretty basic> "There is certainly a level at which there is no way you can have a long-term positive expectation, i.e. rebuy too much. However, does that mean once you reach a certain level you should quit rebuying or quit gambling''' absolutly not. how much you have spent at any point is irrelevant to future decisions. It is a "sunk cost". This is especially true because if you've bought in a few times then that ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(5): How to deal with table bully... Although he may catch up later on in the hand if you check call, do keep in mind that A) if he is as reckless as mathclub he may reraise and push him off what he believes to be the best hand so the goal here really is to keep the pot as small as possible and not stir up unecessary action. B) Also remember that the only way to get him to continue to put more money in the pot without the best hand is to allow him to bluff so this really is the best way to get the most value. I dont disagree with a turn checkraise but i think these issues should be considered also Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): Have to post this there have been a lot of posts these days where people have posted bad beats that were pretty standard and i wanted to slap them for wasting my time while they complained. This one is finally worthy. That sucks dude. if you can handle that then you can handle anything. Posted in: Bad Beats |

Re(1): Any ideas on how to make yourself feel you aren't super unlucky? yeah dude it sucks but one of the biggest skills ive accquired as ive improved as a player is becoming numb to the beats and not tilting. its a part of the game and its important to learn how to cope. if you dont feel like you can play good poker immediately then make sure to take a little break... thats the best way Posted in: Poker Discussion |

go hard or go home? i have recently had a realization which will hopefully end my current trend of bubbling 62,157 final tables every month... there IS such a thing as cashing too much! for example it us much more difficult to FT 3/3 times in a 300 person tourney than it is for someone to win 1/3 times and come in last the other 2/3. HOWEVER it is significantly more profitable to do the former. theoretically a player that has been cashing too much should have taken some more risks which would ensure a deeper finish or have them not cash at all. its important to adopt this "go hard or go home" attitude where the ... Re(1): What are your thoughts (Live games) yeah i'm deff for no smoking at the tables cuz that would make me miserable but as far as dipping goes.... i don't do it but i think you guys should have the right to by all means. if there were any time i would consider taking up the habbit it would be at the poker table. it just seems like a tobacco buzz (or any kind of buzz) and poker go hand in hand. chew away buddy and let them bitch. Re(1): sng question - doubling up early I think it was an ok play but only for a bigger blind level with a really aggressive table where you are pretty sure that someone will raise and you dont have enough chips to play well after the flop out of position. At the same time I think your reasoning is wrong. If anything you should feel comfortable investing a lot with a premium hand. I think you'd be way better off 93.962% of the time if you just raised from upfront. Also i dont think the other guy's play was that horrible - it deff depends on what the tourney buy in is and a number of other factors but i think its borderline but he ... Re(1): Sattelites Thanks a lot guys i think you are right. part of me just wanted to play back at him because he was one of the most abnoxious players ive ever had the displeasure of playing with but i should have let me ego get in the way. i also didnt want the shortstacks to double up and then find myself to be in all in or fold mode but that was unlikely and i should have worried about it when that time came- not before. thanks and good luck everybody Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Sattelites Ok so, I almost never play sattelites but last night i decided to give it a shot cuz i got out of most of my MTT's. It was a 100 buy in with 65 players or so. top 12 gets 500 buy in to FTOPS main event. 13th gets 80 bucks. we are 1 away from the tourney buy in and i have about 5000 chips which puts me about 6th or 7th out of 13 and blinds are 150 300. My plan is to sit tight and get the buy in because there are a few small stacks that will probably get out and i will get what i worked for all this time BUT the big stack on my button who has been raising about 70% of hands decides to raise ... Re(1): i busted out........ but was i right to push? advice please I agree with the other guy: i think that any other choice would have been incorrect. I would still do it even if the cards were turned face up. The best part is that you trap that other guy's money in the pot because its still probly a +EV shove on your approx 50% vitory because you get better than 1 to 1 on your money. good job on the right play and right reasoning... im sorry it didnt work out for you Posted in: Poker Discussion |

end game play Ok guys... i've bubbled 4 final talbes in the last day and a half. on top of that the last few weeks have been littered with very deep finishes that amount to little or nothing as far as profits go because you have to make top 5 to make real money. I used to think that my endgame play was the strongest part of my game. Recently I've tried playing with disregard to the bubble to go big or go home and i've played slightly more conservatively to sneak in. neither strategy has worked recently. does anybody have some end game advice so that i can stop getting teased by the big money'' Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): A question for SNG specialists... There is no type of game that is simply "more profitable" all games have just as many winners as loosers. therefore you should just play what your good at and make sure you are the winner. by all means give the multis a shot and if you have sucess then go ahead and play more of them but if you arent sucessfull then dont sweat it. just do what you like/profit at. I personally profit only slightly at sng's and my bankroll is almost entirely comprised of MTT winnings but that doesnt mean MTT's are better... just better for me Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): 4th hand of tourney........Do u muck or go for early double up? I think that if you are a diciplined poker player you should most likely fold your QQ at a bigger buy in tourney but i probly call that because it looks more like an AK reshove to me for someone who just doesnt wanna see a flop but that is the least important of my points. The more important ones are that in a 10 buyin you probably shouldnt overthink things because many times the players will make moves that are not based on any type of logic. Also wost case scenario is you get out after (which you probably would have anyways) without investing significant time or energy so that you can focus ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |
