Call off most of your stack with QJ offsuit?
Hey fellow P5ER'S, I just busted out 13th in a $4.40 180 man SNG on stars. The last hand went as follows. I had the best hand and feel I got unlucky. My question is, is the villain in this question a total moron for making the the play he did, especially the call, or am I the moron for pushing' I feel my stack called for it and it was the right move I just got unlucky. Thanks in advance for your thoughts. -godawgs85 PokerStars Game #12096119720: Tournament #61375085, $4.00+$0.40 Hold'em No Limit - Level X (400/800) - 2007/09/16 - 17:24:28 (ET) Table '61375085 6' 9-max Seat #7 is the ...

Re(1): What's Your Play Here?
The only hands I think you can fear here are 69 and 64, which are possible since there was no raise preflop. Tough spot, but I think you have to call. They may have A8 and 99 and you could be in great shape, and if one does have the straight, you still have 7 outs to a full house or quads. So much money in the pot with top set, i think you have to call and hope for the best. -godawgs85

Re(2): AK Final Table bubble?
That's a good point Mayor...my opinion was based on the assumption that he had around an average stack. I agree with you that if several players are quite short...it may be a more profitable move to fold, but calling may give him the best chance of winning the tournament outright...

Re(1): AK Final Table bubble?
Yes, you definitely call. If you're in this tournament to win you have to make this call. The only hands in which your in bad shape here are AA or KK, and with KK you still are approximately 30% to win the hand. Even if this guy has QQ or lower you're in a race. With two undercards your about 60% to win the hand. This looks like a great place to develop a huge stack that you can use to bully at the final table. If you lose, so be it, at least you played to win. -godawgs85

Re(1): £5 Sng Bet size question.
I would bet about 1/2 of the pot. I think he's on a heart draw here, so you have to make him pay to see the river. 1/2 of the pot offers him pot odds of around 3 to 1, yet he needs about 4.1 to 1 to call correctly. It is possible he hit a set of 3's or 8's, pocket 5's are very unlikely, but you still have to bet in case he has a flush draw. The call of the pot sized flop bet makes me think he might have a set, but he could also be loosely calling due to his larger stack. If he raises the turn or calls the turn and bets big on the river you will be faced with a tough decision due to his tight ...

Re(4): Another SnG, this time its HU
HU, always call the SB preflop unless you are certain you're opponent will raise every time you do. HU it usually is a mistake to simply fold the SB just because you have a bad hand. Why would he fold preflop, he was BB, lol

Re(2): push with 44 on button with one limper?
If all your trying to do with 44 is steal the blinds why not just standard raise, or raise say 2.5x BB' If you push, you're asking for a coin flip at best....or to be seriously dominated by a bigger pair as in this situation...

Re(1): push with 44 on button with one limper?
I would standard raise, not push here. A raise has about the same chance of taking the blinds with much less risk. At least then you would have known you were up against a hand for the sb probably would have reraised and you could have waited for a better spot. I posted a thread a while ago that was from the bubble of a SNG i won where I was pushing kind of like you did here. I by far discourage this mentality however, even though I won the SNG. I usually do not play like this but had a few reads on my opponents. Even still, I probably was being too aggressive, especially in some of the ...

Re(3): Another SnG, this time its HU
I've found that with HU play slowplaying is not really worth it. Always try to be aggressive and take each pot down. Always value bet your good hands. Make your opponents pay for his or her draw. If you see weakness, pounce on it. The only time I slowplay heads up is when my opponent is overly aggressive, raising almost every hand. Even then, I don't slowplay for long. If I hit top pair I will check and let them bet then I stick in a raise. Aggressive players are easy to extract value from. They do the betting for you. With tighter players, like the one in this hand I assume, raise preflop ...

Re(1): Good Shove?
I don't like the call for one reason...it's too early to put your tournament life on a coinflip...plus if the 77 holds up you are severly crippled with 5-7 BB. Wait for a better spot... I don't like races early unless I have a chip stack that can withstand losing one, leaving me with a fair amount of chips.

Re(1): Another SnG, this time its HU
I would choose option C: Raise to an amount you think he will call and then get it all in or bet big on the river. It's pretty obvious that he probably hit the king or is bluffing at it. If he is bluffing, he will probably fold to a shove or a raise. If he hit his king, he will most certainly call or reraise your raise, but would be more likely to fold to your shove than to call a smaller raise. Sometimes he will call a shove here, but I would prefer to make a raise I'm certain he will call and then either shove or hit him for a huge bet on the river. If he has made a better hand than you by ...

Re(1): Playing Small/Medium Pairs in Middle Stages of MTTs
With an M of a around 5.36, small to medium pairs become more playable than if your M was higher, and it is the correct play to simply push with them. The problem here is your position. You are first to act, which means if you push there are still eight players with hands out there that could beat you, and running into a higher pair, even 88, is much more likely. At best you're probably in a coinflip situation. I usually like pushing these pair hands when I'm in middle or late position and less people are likely to be involved with the hand, and thus my odds of having the best hand are more ...

Re(1): How do you play JJ here? Last two tables...
With an M of a little over 6, I think you have to push here. I really think he would raise more if he had QQ. AA or KK are a possibility with this raise, but you are beating all but these three hands. Most likely you might be in race. You ought to take this chance while your stack is still high enough to get you back in contention. I don't think you will get a better spot to double up before your stack dwindles to a smaller level and will be easier to get called.

All I can say is....ouch....sometimes you'll be on the other end though, although hands like that don't come very often. The other day I was heads up in a SNG, and had A7 of hearts. Flop came A A A...how sweet. My opponent went all-in. I insta called and he flipped over KK. I felt so bad.

Re(1): .5/1 live game help
Hey bud, I agree you should have raised more preflop. With three limpers the pot is at around $12 to $13. Your raise to $13 made it only $10 for the button to call into a $26 dollar pot, around 2.6 to 1. Not too bad odds for KJ suited. If you had raised to say $22, he would have had to call $19 into a $35 dollar pot, much worse odds at around 1.8 to 1. I know you want action with this hand, but even if everyone folds you have made $13, not a bad pot for .5/1. Plus the $13 raise could induce more callers due to increasingly good pot odds with each call. Next time there are so many limpers, I ...

Re(1): Aggressive bubble SNG
I usually go for the standard raises...this SNG just went different for me because I felt so confident in my reads. I do understand where this all-in or fold method definitely could get me or anyone in trouble though in most games. The reason I posted it though was because of its uniqueness and the deviation I had from my normal play and get some feedback. Thanks to all your comments!

Re(1): too agressive in sng at this stage?
Kidca, At this stage, blinds are getting up there but there is still too many players left to get this aggressive with AK. Now if you had had a medium to big Pocket Pair I would've pushed. MTdog is chipleader with 89 suited calling your all-in hoping to bust you with a marginal hand, which he did. With your push, your only around 3 to 2 to win if he calls. If he loses, he still has 3500+ chips to be aggressive with. I would have called pre-flop and then push on the flop if it doesn't look scary and he seems weak. He probably would have folded to a push on the 6 Q 6 flop. If you had been on ...

Re(2): Aggressive bubble SNG
No, it wasn't a turbo. I agree with you, usually I just standard raise and play flops and steal blinds, but in this SNG I had such a read on the other players. One was sooo tight playing few hands and the other was playing very aggressive, but raising big with good hands and small with weak hands. Do you think I still should have toned it down a bit even with these reads though'

Re(1): Hard Rock Hollywood, FL
I played the $65 once at the Hard Rock in Tampa...it was fun...structure isn't that great for good players though...blinds go up every 10 hands I believe. Also, the payout structure on the $65 is horrible...10 players, only two spots paid. 2nd nets $20 (which I placed) while first nets around $200 I think. I think the $100 pays 3 spots, and it's a little more even if I remember. Hope this helps

Aggressive bubble SNG
I think I played the bubble of this SNG very well, especially at this stage to put myself in position to win. I had been playing super tight most of the tournament, which set me up to make these moves based on my reads and how the other players saw me. Re(2): what do you think about this play in 4/180?
The only problem I see with a 1/3 bet on the flop vs. a standard continuation bet is that the continuation bet represents more strength, especially since mash raised preflop. Yeah cont. bets aren't great into 3 opponents but here Mash has position and with a cont. bet will represent strength. With a 1/3 bet, i feel it's asking for a call or reraise, and it could be coming from a worse hand bluffing mash out of the pot. If a continuation bet is called or reraised then obviously mash should be cautious or done with the hand because he is probably beat. I think here in position you have to ...

Re(1): what do you think about this play in 4/180?
No way should you check the flop and let someone draw to beat you. Luckily a trey came out instead of an overcard. Continuation bet the flop and see where you stand. The raise on the turn could be deadly if opponent has Q9 , K9, or A9, or even 33 and just hit his set.

Extracting Value...did I do this right, or could I have gotten more?
Ok...early in a 6-handed SNG...opponent in this hand is playing hyperagressively raising almost every hand. Normally I fold in this spot but here I called being in position hoping to hit a flop and not giving him credit for a great hand. I raised on the turn to see where I stood and if he had an ace, and with his call got cautious. I know this isn't a great move but I thought I might have had the best hand. His check on the river gave me the sense he had nothing, or a weak Ace (which he did). I hit two pair and thought my hand was good. My question is...did I bet enough on the river to ...

Re(1): SNG bubble question - Positive EV?
I think your hand was perfectly good enough to make the call. Yes you might go out on the bubble occasionally when your opponent hits his draw, even if it is runner runner. Most of the time your hand will hold up, however, and you will be in great shape. Not only in the money, but in great position to win. Putting yourself in position to win and capitalizing will by far exceed the times you get sucked out on and you will make more money, winning more times than just simply making the money. Good Call...don't be discouraged...keep playing like that and you'll see success.
