QQ Preflop in a live game
Your play was spot on, a no-brainer. Jim is not a good player (nice guy though)... limp-calling UTG with A3o is obv really bad, no matter what the circumstances are. There is no good explanation for his play. Like many bad players, he probably doesn't even know why he makes the plays he does. When we were 3 handed, he limp-folded 44 on the button with 5BB to my shove from the SB. My suggestion is, don't try to figure out why bad players are bad, just try to adjust to their patterns as best as you can and make the best play for the given situation. Oh, and don't get unlucky ;-) See you next ...

Consolidated downswings/running bad Thread
When I take bad beats, it always helps me to get psyched up about how good I got it in. If someone binks a straight on the river with AK against my AA all in pf for 60 BBs, I pump my fist and say "damn I got that shit in good, I couldn't have got it in better than that, nice work." and move on. If I take a bunch of these in a night, it's is hard to maintain this level of positivity, but I try. When you get it in really good, try to be proud of yourself for doing so, whatever the result.

Any St. Louis players out there?
I came across this meetup group a few weeks ago - / - not sure if there are any decent players in the group, the first game was tonight and I couldn't make it. Just thought you fellow STL people might be interested.

Welcome to the new PocketFives
RSS feed (below articles) seems to show all posts now, but nothing is including in the feed except the title of the articles and the links all take you to a 404 error page. The feed used to have the entire article displayed, but even just a summary and valid link would be cool, although the entire article is best IMO.

Annie Duke's testimony to congress last year was pretty good, you could probably even just copy-past some of it. /

Re:Determining Button/ small blind/ big blind after player is eliminated
The Big Blind always moves forward. You cannot be BB twice in a row. If it is three handed, and the player on the button goes out, the BB moves to the player that was the SB and the guy who was BB last hand gets SB and the button. At a full table, if the player in the SB goes out, then the BB moves forward and there is a dead button in that seat. Here is were it seems to confuse people the most. If the player that was just the BB goes out then there would be a dead small blind next hand and the player that was in the SB is now the button. The next hand after that there is a dead button and ...

Re:BeLOWaBOVe .....Amazing laydown @ $555 WSOP today
Didn't see the 89 hand but I was at his table during this hand, he sucked out with a Q on the river holding Q9 (or something like that) after he called a big shove from a guy holding AK on a KQ6 flop. He was pretty much smashing the table coming in for raises about 75% of the time. He was drinking and a bit obnoxious, but it was a fun experience overall to see him in action. He was one of the chip leaders when I busted in 31st place (paid top 27...sigh) a few hours ago.

Re:WSOP Circuit at Horseshoe Casino in Hammond
I'll be there for the $555 event on Monday. Me and a buddy got a room at Motel 6 Hammond for $50 a night. Prob not the nicest place but as long as it has a clean bed, shower and and a door with a deadbolt, it should be fine.

Re:A8 in SB. Does anyone play this differently?
I think limp-call or a standard raise (planning on folding to a shove) are both better here. Shoving for 16BB, your only going to get called by a hand that has you crushed.

Re:Horseshoe WSOP Circuit in Indiana $550 event ( brag) + Did I make a good deal?
Agreed, regret is a bitch though, so I just thought I would post and try to learn for next time if I did the right thing or not. Thanks for being a good sport and breaking it down for me, your a classy guy. I think the money deal was good for me but I regret the missed opportunity for the glory of the win(+ ring) and the seat. I'll get over it though, next time I think I play it out and see what happens. Take care and best of luck in the main event, I will be rooting for you! AC

Re:Horseshoe WSOP Circuit in Indiana $550 event ( brag) + Did I make a good deal?
Joel is a very good player and nice kid, but def not significantly better than me. Just because I am lower volume hobby player doesn't mean he crushes me in the skill dept. In fact, I am pretty sure that he made a few critical mistakes that I would never have made, but luckily they didn't cost him the tourney. I'm happy for him though and hope his success continues.

Re:Horseshoe WSOP Circuit in Indiana $550 event ( brag) + Did I make a good deal?
I do only have to pay taxes on 2nd place money, IN doesn't officially allow chops, and we took that into acct when we made the deal knowing he would take a tax hit on my $8k.

Horseshoe WSOP Circuit in Indiana $550 event ( brag) + Did I make a good deal?
Got heads up in the $550 WSOP Circuit Event #2 in Indiana. Had about 790,000 in chips, opponent had like 1.74 million. 1st paid $52k plus ME seat and ring, 2nd paid $27k. Blinds were at 20,000-40,000 with 5000 ante when HU play began. Opponent offered me an extra $8k for chip chop and I give him 1st including seat and ring. I would say my opponent was relatively equal in skill. Was this a good deal or should I have played it out' Also, consider $8k is a significant amount of money to a low volume mid-stakes player like me. Took the chop for a $35k payday, pretty happy with the deal but having ...

Re:Is poker office worth the money???
I have been using PO for about 8 months now, before I bought it I demo Poker Tracker 2 with PA Hud and liked PO much better. This was before Poker Tracker 3 was released. Recently they have had issues relating to Full Tilt upgrades and windows vista, there is a fix that has kept it up and running, but it has been a bit glitchy with FT on my vista laptop. Works great with PS though. I may switch to PT3 at some point but not sure. I really only use it for the table overlay and don't pay too much attention to previous game stats.

I'm trying to get a buddy to go with me in which case we'll split a room, but if he can't I wouldn't mind sharing if there is anybody left that needs a roommate. Re:Pokerstars $5 rebuy with $25 addon...worth it?
I agree, wish there were more mid-stakes tourneys on Tilt and Stars with like 200-400 people. I made a post a while ago asking about EV of different field sizes: How does field size affect MTT EV' Not too many replies, but consensus seemed to be that EV was not effected, only variance. Not sure I agree. I mainly like smaller fields though because I only have about a 4-5 hour window to play at night and anything over like 500 will last at least 6 hours. Even the smaller ones are lasting longer with some of the sites doubling the starting stack, which I like, but it makes it even harder to ...

Re:Pokerstars $5 rebuy with $25 addon...worth it?
Took 2nd out of 414 for $1395 in it last night. Guess it was worth it, lol. buyin + 4 rebuys + addon = $50.50 It seems like you would have to be CL at your table by more than 5000 (prob like T15,000 or more) in order to skip the addon, and even then prob should anyway. Pretty soft and the field was almost half gone by the time the rebuy period was over, then less than half the remaining players added on leaving a lot of short stacks under 3000 or so, which was very nice. I will def play this tournament again. Thanks all!

Pokerstars $5 rebuy with $25 addon...worth it?
$5 rebuys get you 1000 $25 addon gets you 5000 Are these worth playing' It seems like having the BR to addon gives you a decent edge in itself since only a small % of players addon. What is the strategy adjustment in these' When is it not worth it to addon' Thanks for advice!

What are the odds? Runner-runner 1 outers for the bad beat!
My boy hit the bad beat jackpot for $105k a few night ago at Lumiere Place casino here in St. Louis. The hand was: My buddy has 22, other guy has AA. He raises preflop, guy with aces smooth calls from the button. Flop is 7 2 A, goes check-check. Turn is a 2, bet, call. River is an A, bet, raise, all-in, call. Runner-runner 1 outers for the $211k jackpot ($105k for loser, $60kish for winner, $5k each for table). Can someone smarter than me calculate the odds of this happening (after the set over set flop)' Just curious. Thx! BTW one guy at the table got up right before the start of the hand ...
