Question for cash game players?
No, I think you're right that people don't bluff the river enough in general. His point though was that people fail to extract value on the river far too often in spots where they should clearly be value betting. That's especially true in live smaller stakes where so many players are showdown monkeys. But in general players tend to miss a lot of value on the river with good but not great made hands for fear of getting raised and not knowing what to do then, but the fact is (at least at the limits the OP posted) not many people are bluff-raising the river, most players when they raise the ...

Question for cash game players?
Too passive on the end, looks like you may be checking down more than you should. Check/calling to induce is fine vs. the right villains, but you're probably missing good value bet spots along the way. In the words of BalugaWhale, if you want to double your win rate, double your river value bets.

Prahlad vs. Bort vs. The Floor (WSOP 2010 on ESPN)
THIS JUST IN: Jack Effel has released a new statement "After reviewing the ESPN broadcast of day 2B that aired earlier this week, I am 100% convinced that without a shadow of doubt Prahlad made 22 freethrows, not 23."

Prahlad vs. Bort vs. The Floor (WSOP 2010 on ESPN)
amazing thread. If the TD's really think his hand should be dead at "1", then the FP still screwed up, by mis-informing Prahlad. The conversation should have gone like this if his hand is dead at 1: PF: How much time have I got' FP: You have 9 seconds. 10, 9, 8... LOL wsopaments

matusow r/fs JJ in ME
Personally I think you can 3B/fold on a 50 bb stack, but it's not a good spot for Mike to do it, for a couple reasons. First, he's been so adamant about not busting out on day 1, he's basically begged people to put him to a decision for his tournament life. Now, that's absolutely fine if you are going to take advantage of that by 3B/getting it in in spots like these, but clearly Mike is not willing to do so, which makes it not so fine. Second, I know we only saw a small sampling of hands on TV but man, he kept flatting pre with all kinds of garbage, so he needs to keep some bigger hands in ...

Annettes Laydown on WSOP
^^^THIS LOL @ all the arm chair quarterbacking. OBVIOUSLY he should raise the turn vs. 44. Too bad he can't watch it on TV then make his decision. lol Annette has a rep as an aggressive player who's never afraid to barrel when she thinks it's a good spot for it, and we saw that in this airing too. 44 (and to an even lessor extent 77) is only a tiny part of her range on the turn, her range contains Jx hands that will bomb the river for value, the FD that might get there, and quite a bit of air. Everything that's not Jx+ folds to a turn raise. Given what little value range she really has when ...

Re:For Those Who Post Hand Histories...
What's really tilting is when idiots post the HH with no reads, then people respond assuming a readless situation, like we just got moved to the table... then the op comes back and argues with the responses because "the villain was doing this and that and bluffing like crazy whenever someone checked to him etc etc." GTFO. lol

Re:Live Cash Game 2-5 1300$ pot- what are the ranges?
I don't disagree with your line of thinking JonBon, but my point is I think the people saying "raise more to thin the field" don't play live much, at least not in the typical loose-drooler live game which is exactly what the op has described. He has 4 limpers and 3 called the raise (surprised even 1 folded honestly), my point is people saying let's make it $60-$70 to thin the field aren't really realizing he's very likely to still get the same 3 callers, thinning the field won't work unless you're going to go an insane amount over what a normal raise in ...

Re:Live Cash Game 2-5 1300$ pot- what are the ranges?
lol, fold pre and not taking a free play might actually be +EV for some players. I agree with you that if we would expect to be taking pot down post flop often, a raise to build that pot we'll win is good. That's probably not a good goal here though... live games tend to have a lot more showdown monkeys, and this game as described certainly sounds that way. If we were on the button here I would have no problem raising these monkeys up. In fact, I would be raising the stakes on my button vs. this field with a pretty wide range. Out of position though I don't think it's a ...

Re:Live Cash Game 2-5 1300$ pot- what are the ranges?
Question for the "raise more" crowd (I agree btw that the raise is too small)... how much more are you going to raise' Live game with very bad loose players doesn't not equate to much folding. It's not surprising he got 3 callers but honestly I wouldn't at all be surprised if he made it $80 and got the same 3 callers. I think I would prefer to just check my option and see the flop, rather than bloat the pot out of position multi-way with AQo. I think raising this pre is pretty spewy tbh. NOT if we can thin the field and/or isolate a fish, but live, and especially in the ...

Re:Live Cash Game 2-5 1300$ pot- what are the ranges?
I think you're getting lost on this. You already said in the OP: Obv when people say stuff like this, they don't mean it literally that his brain is blank (ok sometimes they do lol) but usually that his thoughts are random and/or make no logical sense. Bad players take lines that make no sense. So you answered your own question, he wasn't thinking.

Re:You’re deep with the top stack and you HAVE to leave
I don't know the exact wording in the TOS's but I think the spirit of the rule defines "Play for" as "make decisions for" or "aid in the decisions". Like at the wsop, that guy that was physically handicapped such that he could not perform the physical functions of checking his hole cards or moving chips, was allowed to have his assistant aid him. They were not violating the "one player to a hand" rule because the player made all the decisions without discussion... the assistant was merely acting like robotic arms carrying out the players ...

It sounded like you said: If I have a $26 token, sign up for a $26 tourney, unregister and receive T$26, then convert those to cash less the 5% commission, how much cash would I get' If that's what you said, yes it's a pretty dumb question.

Re:3/6 nl live .....
This post needs addressing, because a lot of people tend to think this way. If you are not properly rolled for this game THEN DON'T PLAY IN IT. If you are going to make insanely bad folds because you're scared to lose your stack, THEN DON'T PLAY IN THIS GAME... you're giving up wayyyyy too much edge.

Re:Cash game question
Calling strictly to set mine with 8-1 is -ev. You need more than that. You're roughly 8-1 to flop a set, the difference is you won't win the pot every single time you hit the set, and you won't automatically get his stack in every time you flop a set either. You need at least 12-1 to compensate for these factors imo, many players look for more than that.

Re:What do you think a 'Polarized' range means? EDIT: answer page 4.
Well first off I would say make sure you need to balance your range, it's often not really necessary. I'll explain... The purpose of balancing your range is to prevent good players from exploiting you easily. For example, if you defend the blinds by calling with marginal-ish type holdings and only reraising premium hands, then you're defending ranges are unbalanced... when you 3 bet an astute player will know you're going to show up wtih a premium, and when you call they'll know you have a pocket pair, suited connecter, 2 broadways, something like that that you deem good ...

Re:What do you think a 'Polarized' range means?
Ask yourself if you're 3 betting for value or as a bluff. With AJ or 88 you're doing neither, since you will usually not get better hands to fold (bluff) or worse hands to call (value). If your action is going to fold out worse but not better hands, you're value-owning yourself. Tend to 3 bet pre more polarized vs. decent regs, and more merged vs. fish.

Re:Pokerstars payouts
I CAN'T BELIEVE it took until page 7 for someone to say STOP PLAYING MTT'S. Obviously the OP (there I go talking in secret code) is not mentally cut out for tournaments. You can play sng's if you like the tournament feel, or you can play cash games. I vote for your money going into the cash game pool. To the OP (that's you brown lol), the situation you describe sucks, yeah, but that is the nature of large field MTT's. As has been pointed out, the pay structure is available before you register. Everyone here is going to be pissed when they bust out 22nd and only get $65, ...

Re:Did i have the best hand here?
You asked for thoughts, and he gave you his thoughts. Instead of being a db maybe reflect on why your bet sizing was bad, or why he might think that' Maybe ask him what he doesn't like about it and how the bets could be sized better (and why)' If you actually wanted advice, maybe open up your eyes and look for it. If all you want to know was did he fold a better hand, the answer is probably yeah, since he time banked. It's hard to imagine what he's thinking about with a worse hand. I don't see how that's advice, though, it's just an observation.
