I'm a Red Sox fan and hate the fucking Yankees to the core, but Rivera's been the goods and a class act all the way. He deserved better. Give me Mo over the likes of Eckersley or Papelbon, where every save means an orgasm, as though it were the clinching game of the World Series. That gets damned tiresome after a while. Mo, you've been the best for fifteen years and I hope you come back, though it didn't look realistic even without this injury. You deserved to go out your way-the batter knows what's coming and he still can't hit it. Here's to the best ever.

Imo, this was a mistake by Lincecum. The odds of his having a major injury in the long term are pretty high with that motion and all. If The Freak gets hurt in either year of this deal, he's fucked himself big-time. He should have locked up a longer-term deal for the coin. If I'm wrong (and I hope I am), he breaks the bank two years on.

Yes, I like this idea too. With Scutaro gone, they just freed up $6M towards that end. Better explain all this to the haters mate. They spent 3/4 of the season as the best team out there (81-42 between the bookends of 2-10 and 7-20) and no-one would remember a thing if they'd got in, much less won the whole ball of wax. It didn't happen, so now it's on to a new beginning.

If Penguins actually had all their players halfway healthy, I'd like them to have a spot with Bruins in the East final, but I wonder whether that will ever happen. Right now I'd say Rangers-Bruins in the East but there's a long way to go. In the West, Vancouver's the goods and I could easily see them meeting Sharks or Detroit for the other finals slot. One of next season's monster contracts will go to Cory Schneider.

Jurrjens runs consistently 2:1 K/BB for his career, but if he isn't doing better than league average with K/9, it won't be much of a career. Even Tommy John struck people out when he first made the bigs back in the sixties. Maybe this kid isn't quite as good as all that, even if he is healthy.

Ellsbury will likely regress some, but getting Crawford to play somewhere closer to his established level would make up for some of that. A lower road ERA despite those other numbers for Bailey reminds me a little of Buchholz in 2010, when all signs really pointed to a higher ERA than he actually had. I agree that the contract for Bailey is probably better than what they'd be paying either Papelbon or Madson. Jurrjens would be a nice get, but that's a lot of prospects going away. Even no-one has got to be better than trotting out Wakefield/fillers in the five hole. A mediocre fifth starter ...
