Re(4): Playing AQ off early in a SNG
I agree with Jenn and Epit... As stated by others, 11 SNG's early are filled with donks that overvalue any Ace. Only caution in case 1 is the hand is worth going to the flop but if it only pairs and someone goes all in after your 1/2 pot bet post flop, give it up because 2 pair is likely what you'll be up against. If you only hit a pair, no matter what the pair, don't go crazy with it. "A pair is only a pair" is my general rule so I rarely risk any tourney on just a pair (even Aces). In 11 SNG's, you can still go deep with 3/4 starting stack after field is narrowed to 6/10. Conserving chips ...

Re(2): An Addicted Gambler's tale
I will not mix words with you at all...KISS---Keep It Simple Stupid -- Step 1: you absolutely can not gamble at all (not even a lotto ticket...nothing) Step 2: You must pay off YOUR debt by getting a job and working hard. If your parents bail you out, make a commitment to pay them back every single cent so that YOU feel the pain of YOUR mistake. Write it out in a contract or simple IOU. I suggest you print out your initial post and a copy of your IOU and keep copies taped up to the mirrors in your room, your bathroom, your car, etc... Remind yourself daily of your mistake BUT accept the fact ...

Re(2): Calling all-in with AK late in a MTT
My play here is call the all in and race...only problem is I have actual examples from the last 4 nights in MTTs. Played solid for 4 hours and make it to the $ (but I play to win not to cash) so I raced AK vs 33-lost, AK vs 66-lost, AK vs 22-lost and worst of all, AA vs 77 and lost yet again. Ended up crippled or out each time. I obviously believe long term I'll end up ahead but short term these results SUCK!

MTT, utg with AA on tight table
After 1st break so good portion of donks are gone, blinds 500/1000, you have 20K which is medium stack on your table (ss=4K, big stack = 35K) and you only have been at table for 1 round so no established table image yet. What is your play UTG'

Brutal WSOP beat
Cardplayer made a small mistake not realizing a Q on river splits but man, this must have felt like a sledgehammer in his gut. Brutal Beat for David McCarty David McCarty and Dean Whittaker get all of their chips in the middle on a flop of A-A-9. McCarty has A-9 while Whittaker has A-Q. McCarty will need to avoid three remaining Queens to double up. Sure enough, the Queen that hits the turn leaves McCarty drawing dead and eliminates him early on Day 3.

Re(5): Getting a bad rap for being a poker player.
Great thread! Read, re-read, and read again the posts from ZEKAgrinder Court02 Jennifear There were other great posts but the common theme from the awesome ones is have "your" act together and others won't be so skeptical. Also, honestly answer the question: how much do you cash out on average every week (or bi-weekly)' Jennifear wrote a great article on Bank Roll management including regularly cashing out (paying taxes to yourself). If you aren't regularly cashing out, you might not be ready to make it a profession just yet. When you average (pick your #) 3K "in ...

Re(2): 10 dollar SNGs
Did you really evaluate your overall play last night or just a few hands' The hands you describe didn't have you way ahead by any means. Here's what I mean, last night was rough for me too but I had to ask myself "if I made the same plays 100 times would i be ahead'" Here's a sample of a few key hands: 1. J high straight on flop (flop 7,8,10 i have 9-JD), push all in since medium stacked on decent pot for me at time, player with slightly bigger stack calls with JK but hits runners for flush - busts me 2. AA vs 77, I raise, he re-raises, I re-raise for his all in, he calls and hits 7 on turn, ...

Re(2): Could I have folded on the river here??
If you went all in on the turn, you have nothing to question since you put him to the test and you would have made the right play on the hand (he would have made the bad call). Even if you lose, you look like a chip-leader who puts others to the test with the best cards. He looks like a donk making a loose call but your image improves even with the loss. The way you played it makes you a timid chip-leader and I would put you to the test every chance I get. You not only lost the hand, your image was hurt too IMO.

Live game-asked "do you want a call"
I'd like to get opinions on both sides of this situation in a live game. If a player goes all in and you are faced with calling the bet...you ask "do you want me to call'" What are you trying to find out...does the basic rule - if they act strong they're weak apply' If you are the all in player, how do you answer if you have Aces or Cowboys' What about AK, QQs, or JJs' Lastly, a weak holding. Any input and opinions would be really appreciated.

Re(2): What to do here?
If I'm right he has 8400 left and you had +21K...so I ask what is preferred, the all in push or a bet of 4K' I favor the all in since it put you in control and he has to decide what to do but I wanted to hear opinions too.

Re(9): This hand confused me.
Since the short stack still had more than 10BBs, as the chip leader against a solid-tight player I like to "chip away" rather than hit a grand slam so I did not like the smooth call on the flop and I especially didn't like the "free" check following his check on the turn. I would have raised on the flop bet of 14K at least 14K especially since he wasn't donating chips as you said. On the turn, I would definitely put him to the test since I don't want to give the A diamond any free looks. If you win on this had following the flop you have him in the danger zone of less than 10BBs. Unless he ...

Re(2): Did I play this hand poorly?
I disagree that you played it well. You checked 2 pair on a flush board heads up. Why' Trying to set a trap will only trap you. Why give him a free card' Bet at least half the pot (I'd rather bet the whole pot) and if I get called by the flush draw at least I know he made a mistake not me. In a MTT as a short stack, traps will just trap you and a 2 pair trap is no trap at all...very vulnerable to a set too. You didn't have a big stack so you need to take the chips and add to your small stack. IMO, the check was a bad play.

Re(4): whats your play on the turn
I agree with the 2K bet on the turn since it gives you a chance to find out where your at and you can still have chips to play with. I guess you know it but you made a big mistake on the flop IMO. If my #s are correct you bet 1200 into 2100. On that flop, with QQ, bet at least the pot if not 3K right there and take it. That would have left you with 2500. If he hit a set and raises you you can fold. AK should fold at that point.

Re(3): any justifying his call?
In general, in rebuys after the rebuy period ends, I would not "call" any all in for more than 50% of my stack with anything less than JJs (maybe 88s if I think the oponent is a weaker player than myself). I don't like the CALL. I can understand the thoughts behind the play such as you might just have a strong Ace and his 55s are best but even then, he only wins 54% of the time. It's a very loose play especially since he was just about the chip-leader and it was AFTER the rebuy period ended. If it was BEFORE the rebuy period ended, I have no problem with the play since the goal is to get a ...

Re(2): Push Here?
I agree with GLMM, with JJs, I don't want to be forced into calling the rest of my 47K. I treat JJs just like 88s or 99s and call raises from bigger stacks in MTTs. Since he has you more than covered he likely will gamble with a decent Ace or even KQ. I call and wait for the flop. If he was a short stack, for example had 36K vs your 57K, I probably push to force the tough decision but again, player tendencies do factor in especially if my read is that the player making the bet is passive-tight vs loose-aggressive.

Re(1): Playing the Big Stack Heads Up in a SNG
I struggled with the same problem...you make it to the final 2 and it becomes a crapshoot at best. A strategy that's helped me manage the crapshoot (and tremendously improve my results long term) is a method I learned from a Cardplayer article titled "Are you Sage'" by Lee Jones. Basically, you calculate your hand values power index compared to the short-stacks chips divided by the BB amount. If the hand value is high enough you push hard. It is written to EXACTLY address the situation you describe...being heads up at the end in NL. Here's the link:
