Another going pro thread IMO, the recurring roadblock here is the family. For me, as a young buck in my 20s, with no ties to anyone or anything other than the small amount of debt I have from being a lifedonk in college, I would quit my job in a heartbeat if I could make the same amount (40k) playing poker. I'm in the same work situation as you are - I work an average of 46 hours per week (I keep a spreadsheet of my hours because I am LAG with my raise negotiations, and I got one coming up next month glglgllg run gooot for me) and the work is mentally exhausting. To the point where I only play on the ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Staking A Friend For the record, I agree with this guy. The arrangements should be made and agreed upon by both sides before any money is shipped. But I think anything more than 60/40 isn't worth the person being backed's time. You can go to several sites or people and get backed 50/50 or 60/40. I'd never charge anyone I consider a friend more than 50/50 on a stake. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Staking A Friend IMO you can't think about it like that. His game and your game are two separate things. I mean, it gets so complicated once you add in all these stipulations. If I bust before I cash, you pay me 75% of your winnings. If I cash, then you pay me your BI plus 50% of my cash amount, then 75% of whatever you make if you cash higher than me. If I cash higher than you, then you only have to pay 50%. You see what I'm saying' It's too fucking complicated. Just have him give you back his buy-in plus 50% of profits after that, and be happy. Sorry if you have a shitty Sunday and don't ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Staking A Friend What I don't understand is why you feel like since your friend is beneath you and is playing on your money, that you somehow "deserve" more money than him' I mean, yes, he wouldn't be able to play in the event if it weren't for you, but that's why he's splitting half of his winning with you. And he's playing HIS game. If he just so happens to make it further than you, then guess what' BE HAPPY for him, take your half, and hopefully you can be proud of the fact that you aided your friend in increasing his roll/making a significant cash/earning some extra money ... Re:How many OT's are out of shape? I've never been in shape. I've always had a bit of a belly, enough to make me conscious of it. Once I hit college, I basically let myself go, growing from 180 to 260. I finally had to hear a lecture from my parents who blasted me for getting so fat, and I started an extremely strict diet that caused me to lose 70 pounds in 6 months (189 at the end). I was looking better than I had since early high school years, and feeling great, except for the fact that I ate so little "bad food" that I had almost completely cut fat out of my diet. I had to stop the diet and begin eating ... Posted in: Off Topic |

Re:Wow, my mom was an awful parent. I feel really bad when I read stories like this. I was raised well without any serious traumatic experiences involving my parents, so when I start to get whiny and think about how much my life sucks, I stop and realize that I need to STFU because it could've been much worse and I need to stop being a pansy. Re:What do your non-poker playing friends I actually got in a pretty bad situation with a roommate who completely stopped talking to me because he "didn't want to be associated with a loser who was fucking up his life". And then, as a strange twist of fate, I went busto a couple months after that. Hopefully once I get a steady job, I can re-invest some more money into poker and my learning of the game. Re:Why is it so hard to find a job??? You and me were in the same boat, brother. I graduated in May with an Accounting degree and moved to Austin looking for a job in a new environment. Shortly after arriving, I found out that the things I ignored in college because I thought they didn't matter (such as good grades and EXPERIENCE/INTERNSHIPS) are pretty much the deciding factors. Most employers wouldn't look at me because of my lack of experience. I applied to positions that don't even require a college degree, and still was getting passed up for more qualified candidates. Long story short, I start my new job on ... Posted in: Off Topic |

Re:locking the doors to your house/apartment I lived in Gulfport, MS during my adolescent years. Lived in the "edge" of town (though since has grown past obv), and we never locked doors unless we were going to be gone on vacation. Even then, all of our neighbors had keys to the crib. I never locked my car at home (though away from home I did), and didn't even have a key to my own house until I moved away to college. In Mobile, AL I had my own apartment. That bitch was locked 24/7 except for the few seconds when I would unlock it to walk outside, grab my keys, and re-lock it. I always double locked (key lock and deadbolt) ... Posted in: Off Topic |

Re:Food you haven't had since college, but you really want to eat? Considering that my diet for my 4 years of college was turkey sandwiches for lunch and a TV dinner (with Lean Pockets taking their place the last year), I actually wish I had the willpower to go back. Re:Summer school rant Summer classes are pretty much the only reason I graduated college on time. My only regret is not leading a movement to have the entire school year split up into 13 4-week marathon semesters. Oh, and also going to a school that doesn't do interim classes during Christmas break. Posted in: Off Topic |

Re:Phil Helmuth exit interview from 5KPLO+R's Love him or hate him, we've got 50+ replies where everyone's talking about him. He probably commands (and gets) a lot more money to make appearances (assuming that poker players are actually relevant enough to get paid to make them) than anyone else, which is good for the business of Phil Hellmuth, regardless of his skill as a poker player. If you actually READ what I said and didn't immediately dismiss it as the idiotic dribble you probably thought it was, you'd CLEARLY see that I said that it's only those who are so staunch in their beliefs that they are ignorant to discussion of religion who have failed at life. I'm guessing that your complete failure to even read one post without immediately dismissing the notion lumps you in the group that has failed.
