*** Official NHL Round 1 Playoff Thread*** For the bold part: Willie Mitchell, the #1 stay at home defenseman missed the entire season. Matt Greene, another top defensive defenseman and team leader hurt his back in game 1. He didn't come back until game 44 I think. Alex Martinez only played in 27 games due to an injury. That's half of their defense from last years post season run. As far as Quick goes, he had back surgery in the off-season and wasn't cleared until just before the season started. He had horrible stats to start the year but he came on real strong down the stretch posting numbers similar to what he played at last season. ... Posted in: Off Topic |

*** Official NHL Round 1 Playoff Thread*** East: (1) Penguins vs. (8) Islanders: Pittsburgh in 5. The Pens just have too much for the Isles to handle. (2) Canadiens vs. (7) Senators: Ottawa in 7. As bad as Montreal has been playing, I just don't think Ottawa is that much better. This will be a boring 7 game series with some ugly wins both ways. (3) Capitals vs. (6) Rangers: Washington in 7. The Capitals are playing amazing but Lundqvist can steal some games. If the Rangers can keep their penalties down which they did most of the season, this should be a great series. Post your personal favorite travel photos (3 max) I was there in August. It was crowded but didn't take more than an hour. The worst part was the heat. Climbing the stairs to get to the top of the Vatican sucked but the view made it worth it. They have a pretty cool waterfall behind the Vatican that has an Eagle shaped rock formation. Italy or Hawaii ( Vacation) I did Rome a few years back and 5 days is needed to really explore the city. That being said, I'd still do Italy over Hawaii just because it's Italy. The food alone will make it worth the trip. Posted in: Off Topic |

***Official Stanley Cup Finals Thread*** Just got back from the game. Work should be fun tomorrow. I have no voice at all. Hopefully it's back before Wednesday. Staples center was unreal tonight. 15 down, 1 to go. Quick will get the Conn Smythe. 15-2, 1.36 gaa, .950 sv%. If games 1 & 2 were bigger wins there is an argument for Kopitar. ***Official NHL Conference Final Thread.*** If we're going to get on the subject of dirty players, how about Smith swinging his stick at Richards stomach here at 0:14 or coming at his ref looking like he's about to deliver a tomahawk chop at 0:25' After the chop on Brown in game 2, the cup check in game 3 or 4 and then this, I'd say he's well on his way to becoming a dirty player that's one of the most hated in the NHL. ***Official NHL Conference Final Thread.*** I think a Kings vs Rangers final would be awesome. The Rangers are the only team that really scared me going into these playoffs aside from the Kings themselves. Going against Lundqvist over a 7 game series is no easy task no matter how bad the Rangers may play or how good the opponents play. Him and Quick just have something in them that the other pretenders (Elliott, Smith, Luongo, etc) don't and it allows them to completely carry their team. If the Rangers get by the Devils and the Kings by the Coyotes, I think we see a 7 game series for the cup. Posted in: Off Topic |

***Official NHL Conference Final Thread.*** As a fan, I can say I had pretty much given up on this season. I didn't think a new coach would be able to turn it around this quickly. Especially a coach that runs a pretty similar style. Whatever he's told the guys in the locker room is working though. For the first time ever, I watch the game expecting a win from the opening drop and don't even get nervous at all. Usually I need 2-3 shots by the time the 1st period is over. Posted in: Off Topic |

Offense, Defense, and Goaltending are all 3 clicking right now. All 4 lines are rolling. Imagine if they could do something on the power play. So pumped for the games Thurs & Sun. ***Official NHL Conference Final Thread.*** They have 4 key guys locked up for a long time: Richards - 2020, Carter - 2022,Kopitar - 2016, Doughty - 2019 Brown is here for 2 more super cheap years and will most likely take another hometown discount to extend. He's just that type of guy. Williams is signed for 3 more years fairly cheap. If he continues with his current production and stays healthy, they have 5 out of their top 6 signed. Quick will be due for a big raise (deservedly so) but Penner and Stoll come off the books after the playoffs. That's 7.8mil extra to spend there. ***Official NHL Conference Final Thread.*** The Rangers have the odds against them. No team has ever played 14 games in the first 2 rounds and won the 3rd round. I picked them to make it out of the East in my bracket so I'm going to stick with them. I think it will be a hell of series based on how they played each other in the regular season. Rangers in 6. As a Kings fan, this post season is crazy. Before it started, I picked them in my bracket vs the Rangers. That was more the homer in me picking though. Official First Round of NHL Playoffs Thread Nashville, LA & Phoenix have now made the playoffs in 3 consecutive years in a tight western conference playoff race. I'd say it's fair to consider them part of the "usual suspects" list of teams now. I do understand that playing on the west coast along with the lack of a winning tradition hurts LA & Phoenix. The lack of a winning tradition also hurts Nashville from being on that list. If you go back to preseason though, everyone fully expected LA and Nashville to be where they are at now. Phoenix was thought to be on a downward trend and St Louis came out of nowhere to be a very tough team. Posted in: Off Topic |
