Re:Super sick spot @ FT of UB $300 100k Given the aggro-donk read, calling the flop and folding a blank turn is pretty bad. Unless you have a reason to think getting to the turn gives you more information, I think you're better off shoving the flop, where we're very likely to be ahead. That said, let's go back through the hand, street by street. First off, preflop: Holding JJ in position against an aggro-bad player with 40bb stacks, it's close whether or not we want to call 10% preflop. I'm never folding to this guy, but sometimes I will reraise. The thing is, in order to reraise, we need to have some idea how ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:wpt preparation If you have a chance to play in a couple of smaller live tournaments, it will probably be worth it to familiarize yourself with live play. Just to get used to moving chips, announcing your actions before you act, protecting your cards, and the various intricacies in live play. Worth it in my opinion to avoid what could be a costly mistakes in a major event. As far as things to play online (I'm assuming that you're playing a WPT main event'), the best comparison would be a very deep-structured game online. There is a lot more deepstack play in major live events than there is in online ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:STANDARD OR DONKTACTULARRRRR??? Reads' Your call is standard. Often you're better just shoving here than raising 1/2 your stack. You can't really smooth call here with your stack, so it comes down to raise/push or fold. It'd take a pretty hefty read to make a fold correct. So yes, in my rambling way, I'm saying "Standard." - Jeffrey "JGB146" Blake, Grinderschool Admin Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:To Call or Not to Call In case this isn't a joke, yes, this is an automatic call. The possibility of a flush draw shouldn't even be enough to make you fold top pair, if you're reasonably sure that all your opponent has is the draw. There are very few situations in poker where you don't want to get your money in if your hand is ahead. Fewer still in cash game play. Here you're at least 70% to win the hand. This should be a spot where you can't get the chips in fast enough! - Jeffrey "JGB146" Blake, Grinderschool Admin Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Pre flop spot with TT facing an all-in and a call Even though it was 10bb, he called for 1/3 of his stack. You can't really expect him to fold anything for 145k more when he's already called for over 110k, can you' By the time he's facing this decision it'll be approximately 145k to call and win a 500k pot. I don't think he can reasonably fold anything there. - Jeffrey "JGB146" Blake, Grinderschool Instructor Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:What should i do? I read this post as asking about a training site as well (he specifically mentions looking for a response in the training forums). I'm biased, but I'll second cobere's recommendation for you to check out . We have nearly 300 videos focused on cash games from $10nl to $100nl (both full ring and 6-max) and low stakes tournaments (both SNGs and MTTs). Further, our price just can't be beat at $35 for 3 months (except, I suppose, by our holiday special where you get an extra month if you sign up in December). I don't want to cross the line into spam, but definitely check out ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:sng question Because he has the shorter shorty out-chipped and will take 2nd if they both lose, he should definitely call with ATC to maximize the chance that the other shorty will bust. If the shorter shorty doesn't bust on this hand, then SB is in major trouble. Reverse the stacks and it is a fold. - Jeffrey "JGB146" Blake, Instructor & Admin Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:hands from tonight that bugged me You're right - I misspoke there. Bet/fold isn't a standard line. To me, with this stack in this position, folding is the standard line. If, however, I expect to get folds often enough to want to play the hand, I am indeed advocating bet/fold. I'm looking for tables that aren't likely to reraise preflop to take this line though. If you are at a table on which a reraise usually means a real hand (yeah, I know, these are relatively rare in today's online game, esp at the $55 level, but humor me as if he's playing a $300 live tournament or a $11 online tournament and has ... Re:hands from tonight that bugged me 1. As others have mentioned, this probably should just be a call on the flop. It is a very dangerous board, and with this many players in, the chances are good that you are only getting action from a hand that beats you or that you are basically a flip against (even hands like JT have 13 outs against you). That this is a large multiway pot dramatically lowers the value of bottom two pair. 2. Unless the table is very aggressive about reraising your open-raises, I think you have too many chips to shove here. Bet/fold is a better standard line IMO. 3. Your range is fine for standard reships. ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Cash Advice I think your bet-sizing is catered more toward MTTs than cash, which could create a long-term struggle for you in cash games. In cash you need to bet enough to clearly threaten their whole stack by the river. That usually means 80%+ of the pot. That both protects your equity in the hand against draws, and gets value for your holdings (as well as just flat out looking stronger). This is doubly true in a hand with draws on the board. So in this hand, the pot on the flop was $1.85. Your bet should be $1.60 or more. The turn is more troublesome once the draw hits. I'd have to have more ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:What do you do? Call this over-shove?? At this point, I'm going to start considering some concepts that aren't available from just a hand history. We can see that you're second in chips at your table and that you'll have a short-but-playable stack if you call and lose. First, you said he has been doing this often...but how often and for how long' The difference between twice an orbit for 3 orbits, or 4 times an orbit for 10' Has anyone called him at any point (and if so, what did he show up with)' Next, where are you in the tournament and how does your table compare to the rest of the field' With a high Q (i.e. ... Re:tricky spot in 5.50 mtt It's really opponent-dependent here. This can be a bad player's attempt to get you off the hand, or it can be a bad player's attempt at getting value the only way he knows how. Without more history on dan's betting patterns, it's hard to say with 100% certainty. Given that, I'll default to looking at how he played. You said he has been very aggressive. That makes it sound like it is out of character for him to wait until the river to get aggressive. Usually when there is a deviation from a typical pattern, there's reason to be suspicious. Based on that, I'm ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:A LEAK has been identified - Any P5 plumbers available today? With straight and flush draws present, you definitely want to raise that flop to protect two-pair. Without reads, I agree with leading the turn. With the right reads (i.e. that opp wouldn't have called the flop with A5/65 and that he is aggro enough to bet), I like a check/raise all-in to maximize the pressure you are applying and the amount that you win. This is reasonable, because if you raise the flop, the pot looks like: 250 (pre) + 100 (his fl-bet) + 100 (portion of your raise that calls his bet) + 350 (your fl-raise) = 800. His bet will likely be 300-500, plus your calling-portion ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Late in the tourney what do you do with small pocket pairs UTG? I definitely agree with both of the above. It's usually a fold with that stack from early position. There are very few flops that you will be comfortable continuing on, and you end up wrapping a lot of chips up in a marginal situation if you play them. The two exceptions to this are if you're at an extraordinarily tight table, against players where you will actually pick up the pot a decent amount of the time (postflop as well as pre). And, as mentioned above, when you are in early position at a short-handed table. If you're 6-handed, 55 UTG is much more playable, especially ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:How to play better Hey Cobere and Jason, Thanks for the kind words. GrinderSchool definitely tries to capture the essence of what we feel can most benefit a low stakes player. We've got offerings for low stakes videos of every format of NLHE (6-max cash, full ring, SNGs, MTTs) and we're working hard to beef up our offerings for other games, while still building that content. We have a few LHE videos, as well as a few PLO videos, and recently we've been building a series based on providing an introduction every non-hold'em game available. Re:why sngs will always be profitable I don't know. To me, risking 10% of the prize pool here is questionable without a top 4 hand. Folding pretty much guarrantees we increase our profit by 50%. I'm having a tough time justifying a play that risks that profit to mostly pick up 300 chips. Say he folds 95% of the time (which basically means he's calling with the range we have plus AQo): We win 300*.95 + 4800*.05*.53 (5% of the time he calls and we have 53% equity) - 4500*.05*.47 = 285 + 127 - 105 = 307 chips Say he folds 99% of the time (only calling with KK+): We win 300*.99 + 4800*.01*.25 (1% of the time he calls ... Re(1): taxes and new bodog sng structure You'd be expected to pay taxes the same way on money earned while you were overseas for a short term. A similar thing occurs at the state level. Example: Last year, I was a student except for work I did during the summer while at an internship on the East Coast. Despite all of that work being done on the East Coast, the Mid-West state I claim as my residence gets my state taxes for the internship. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(3): Bodog Needs a Time Bank Sounds like we were actually in slightly different situations...when I pulled up a browser, it wouldn't load. I sent Bodog a second email detailing my thoughts on why they should, as you say, automatically use the time from the disconnect protection when you don't respond in time. They responded by saying that adding a time bank was something they were looking in to. Their concern was that they would lose the players who like the speed with which things play out on their site, but a solution I'm offering is to only activate the timebank once players are ITM or at the FT. IMO, you should ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |
