Calling a shove on the bubble?
Since position is irrelevant here due to the shove, he's basically trying to steal the blinds just based on your description. That and being the money bubble, LAG players will play especially laggy since most people are looking to squeeze in, so in his eyes, calling ranges have skyrocketed immensely. I'd put him on practically any 2 cards as well, but I'd narrow it down to medium suited connectors (7-8+) up to as high as JJ. I'd figure AA, KK, or QQ would want some degree of action so I don't see a shove here. A great deal would depend on how he's played in similar positions and in similar ...

Re:Full Tilt Rush Poker
Tried it...absolutely hate it. You can't watch the results of a hand (when you're out), you can't watch a player's betting patterns or gain any information. This completely takes out the "reading" portion of poker, you hardly EVER play against the same person, the BB and SB, albeit as fair as it can be, jumps all over the place, which makes position a pain in the azz. This is a worse idea than that Matrix crap they started a while back. If you're someone that purely plays for Hands/hour...this is definitely for you thou.

Re:sit and gos still beatable?
I agree. The SNG's are still profitable at the micro-level and the play, though it has gotten more Hyper-Aggressive, is still very soft. Standard push/fold strategy and maybe a slightly more aggressive ABC poker strategy should still be good enough to turn a fair ROI. A lot of people I've spoken to have generally stated that Cash is more profitable than SNG's just simply because there's actual money traveling at those tables and the $/hour potential is higher. Granted, playing 10-20 SNG's at a time may yield the same result if not better since you are limiting your ...

Re:Poker with hole cards exposed
Then have it start out at Play Money. I am a recreational player, but one that wants to learn to play optimally as opposed to getting lucky. A new game variant of hold'em may let the newbie pick up hold'em faster, but the jist of the game can be learned playing it standard. Having the cards face-up would make virtually little to no difference in terms of learning the game other than knowing what hands win and what hands lose. I mean, if you really need help knowing that AA > QQ (though sometimes I wonder...), then it's not a question about common sense anymore....that's ...

Re:Live poker hand, what should I have done?
I agree. This hand wasn't played badly. You kept your losses to a minimum doing what you did....but looking at it, a pre-flop call UTG+1 and a call of a small raise after, smells like a small pocket pair. Then the min-raise on the flop of your bet screams set if what you say about him is true (solid player, doesn't get too far out of line, etc.) Definitely raise more pre-flop. Granted you may not get a whole lot of action if you do that, but if you do get any action, you're getting paid for it. On the other hand, going up against 2-2 with KK is a dream (really he only has 2 ...

Cooler or Different Strategy Needed?
Funky format in a festival poker game, but results would be the same even for a standard game. We all had around $30 - $50 Hold'em: Open limits 1-2, NL on raises SB: $0 BB: $1 UTG: Folds Me (UTG+1) - $40 (Q-Q) - Raise to $5 (UTG+2) - Calls $5 (CO-1) - Calls $5 (CO) - Folds Button - Calls $5 SB - Calls $5 BB - Calls $5 Flop: A-K-A SB - Checks BB - Bets $1 Me - Raise to $5 UTG+2 - Calls $5 CO-1 - Folds Button - Calls $5 SB - Folds BB - Calls $5 Turn: A-K-A-(Q) BB - Bets $2 Me - All-in for $30 UTG+2 - SNAP calls $30 CO-1 - Folds Button - Calls $30 BB - Folds (River was a J, but ...

Oh that's okay, I was playing a $2.20 today and got knocked out on the first hand with 8-8. Flop: 4-4-T-8-4 I raised 6x BB and got called by a donkey with 9-4os who magically catches quads when i catch my boat on the turn. Chit happens. But yes, I have fallen victim to and witnessed the cooler special many times.

Re:Who is that new kid on the block?
Not that I don't question Bdybldngpkrplyr's comment, but coming from a player who's had 2 triple crowns, it would be nice to hear at least a brief explanation as to why it's a horrible play. Otherwise, I'm just going to associate all triple crown winners and notable players as being complete douches.... EDIT: Yes, I expect to get royally flamed for the last part, but c'mon, all I'm saying is that if you're a good player, why not give us some insight' Otherwise, why are you posting to begin with'

Re:Folding AKo pre to a re-raise on button to nitty?
I think (and this is just my opinion), but folding AKos to a 3-bet isn't really a bad play. I wouldn't be worried about the original raiser so much as the 2nd raiser. The raise is substantial, and really the only play that would make sense if you decide to play is to shove pre. If there was only 1 raise behind you, then I'd be more inclined to re-raise/shove, but this being a 3-bet raise, I'd be more inclined to fold. Depending on the 2nd raiser's style (assuming a solid TAG), I would suspect he's holding JJ+ and as you said, if he holds KK or AA, you're screwed.

Re:Look at how lucky I got...
I agree with ^^^^^. You probably could have shipped it on the turn and got the same result. It is good to keep your options open on the river, but if you were up against trips, (KK, QQ, etc.) and the board paired on the river, can you keep from paying him off even with your str8' You were able to get max value out of this particular scenario, but if the situation were changed to him making a boat instead (let's just say), then small-balling the turn wouldn't be a good idea. You run a certain level of risk by leaving the door open for the river. I would have shipped it on the turn ...

Re:Awkward spot with Ace Jack
Agree....it's a shove. Can't really play this any other way since you'll be OOP against all but the SB if it gets to the flop before you ship it in there.

Re:Have you had a super big cash with your remaining bankroll?
Either this is a level, or definitely the worst advice ever given. **Regarding the question....since I'm utilizing BR management, I've not gotten to the point where I have to use my "remaining bankroll". I'm not up thousands and thousands obviously, but BR management has kept me from redepositing for the last 18 months....so there's got to be some validity to this whole BR management thing....

Re:Slowplaying with a set - when does it get dangerous?
Concerning the HH, just as the guys above . You'll get paid more times than not. Considering your question in the title, slowplaying your set gets dangerous when the board gets too drawy....flush/str8 possibilities especially.

Re:did i play too aggressive..............
Overpair to the board, and he's not going anywhere with JJ with that board showing. This is played fine IMO. You can't really play 9-9 weaker in that position especially since there was a possibility he was calling pre with overcards. You have to make him pay to catch overs. Just unfortunate you ran into a higher overpair is all.

Re:Top 2 pair, 3 card flush on board.
If he actually had 2 spades, I'd think he would want more action on the river since the lead out bet was 8K. I'd say a nut flush here would have flat called the turn, not shoved. This smells like top pair top kicker with 4 spades. I think you're ahead here, but he's got a good number of outs. Pretty interesting spot here IMO.

Re:call or fold????
Smells like a set. Even if it wasn't a set, the only thing you beat on that board is K-x and a bluff. Straight on the board, flush on the board, AK on the board, your AQ only beats a marginal number of hands. Note: AK is not a possibility in my mind since a re-raise would have happened pre. Mid-pair seems like the only logical hand (possibly AA and KK to get value, but doubtful based on the action after flop). Check on flop (to entice a bet), then pot bets turn (to represent an A against someone that has an A), and shoves river (to get value for his set since there was a caller on ...

Re:is this an auto fold
I've been wondering about this quite a bit lately too. Seems the "new-age" of hold'em has produced some crazy aggro plays pre-flop. On one hand, this seems like a play where he doesn't want any post-flop action which means you're probably flipping. But on the other hand, this is a 3-bet shove deep in this tourney, which could mean he holds large cards and hoping you will call with a hand like you have. Since I'm more interested in playing small-ball poker, I'd be more inclined to fold here since I don't want to put my tourney life on the line pre-flop ...
