Problems with 15-50 big blind size pots It's all cash games referred to in my last paragraph. One problem besides the increase in scare cards is that I am hitting the flop less often when I raise preflop with a none PP hand. I keep this stat and it has gone from 26.5% to 24.5%. At least it is better this year then last. The statistics say that you should get one pair on the flop from a non-pair hand 28.5%, but that does not account for some bias because players tend to see flops with similar hands. I have tried more raising CBets, double barreling even naked 3 bets, but they have not really improved anything. I do better when I ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Problems with 15-50 big blind size pots I have a question concerning performance in certain size pots. In 2008, when I was a consistent winner, I won about 12bb/100 in pots that were between 15 and 50 big blinds in total size. In 2009, when I was basically even, I lost about 35 big blinds/ 100 hands in pots this size and about the same this year in which I am down for the year. I don't understand why the difference. In fact, I do somewhat more double barreling in 2009 and 2010 than in 2008, but not a lot. It does seem that often when I have a medium strength hand on the flop like TPGK, TPTK or 2 pair, the turn and/or the river are ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:PPA Announces Change to Board of Directors TE, I have a question. The PPA now has seven members of its Board of Directors. They seem impressive to me. So why does the PPA need eleven directors' Why not just change its Articles of Incorporation to have seven directors and keep the current seven' You can't do better than yourself, Greg Raymer, Howard Lederer, Chris Fergueson, and Linda Johnson; not to forget a former Senator and the President who has done an excellent job. Re:Judge freezes payments of online poker G911 has an interesting update on the SDNY DOJ seizure. Of course, anything in the G911 must be taken with a grain of salt. Still, it appears that the DOJ is not backing down since it has not unsealed the court documents behind this seizure. So I have a question for Skall and TE. Has the PPA planned for potential DOJ action (subpoena to testify before a grand jury or, much less likely, filing of criminal information or indictment) against poker pros who represent FTP or PS or against principles of FTP or its software provider' Posted in: Poker Legislation |

Re:TAKE ACTION: Tell Congress what you think of the Feds' seizure of YOUR money! TE, I would like to remove the paragraphs about Rep. Franks' bill and the UIGEA. It is too soon to further push Rep. Franks' bill because it is not finalized and the state opt out provisions are completely unacceptable. In addition, IMO it is not consistent for the PPA to push this bill in Congress and argue in a court of law that it is not necessary because no federal law covers online poker. I think that it is best if the PPA ignores the UIGEA on the grounds that it does not cover online poker for the same reason. I would focus on the overreaching seizure and overzealous nature of ... Re:Federal Law and your Poker money Excellent article Skall. IMO, if a player receives a check from a payment processor and the check fails to clear, then the maker of the check, not the poker site, is liable to the player. OTOH, if an echeck withdrawal fails to clear, then the player never received payment and the site still owes him the money. Either way, players have clearly suffered harm and costs. Many still do not have cash in hand and a question has been raised about the value of online poker accounts. If the DOJ does not reverse this seizure and its position on the legality of online poker, then IMO it is time to ... Posted in: Poker Legislation |

Re:Judge freezes payments of online poker I have emailed the letter below to my Congressman and President Obama. "I would like to inform you that the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York has taken an outrageous action this month. This office first requested a few banks to freeze bank accounts held by some payment processors for several online poker sites. These payment processors did not serve sports betting sites; only online poker sites serving US citizens. These bank accounts only held money that was property of US online poker players. Either funds that they intended to deposit to online poker sites or funds ... Posted in: Poker Legislation |

Re:Judge freezes payments of online poker First, I want to commend the PPA and Skall for their efforts in this matter which has turned into a legal war. I sort of knew something like this was in process from the silence yesterday. I knew that the PPA and Skall were on top of it despite the silly, adverse article in G911. Therefore, I have some comments and call for action to various parties. 1. To the PPA, TE, Mr. Pappas and Skall: I have full confidence in your ability to defend the interests of all online poker players and all the companies involved in the online poker industry. IMO, we cannot have a better attorney or litigator ... Posted in: Poker Legislation |

Re:2012, too soon? I'm a pessimist. I left the GOP in July 2006. I do not believe that the GOP will come back to its small government, individual freedom and personal responsibility principles. I have two reasons for my beliefs. One, too many Americans no longer believe in these principles. Sen. Thompson said in a Republican 2008 Presidential debate that the entitlement programs must be shrunk and Americans need to take responsibility for their retirement and financial affairs. I was listening on Fox News. One of its pollsters interviewed people who had watched the debate. All of them said that Sen. ... Posted in: Poker Legislation |

Re:Current Cashout Problems/Long Term Effects of UIGEA It is becoming more likely than not that the DOJ is behind these payment processing issues since another source Pokerati (see 2+2 thread) is confirming this fact. If so, their action is much more likely to be based on their interpretation of the Wire Act that it covers online poker and all online gambling. Not only are the UIGEA regulations not yet binding on banks, but they do not define unlawful Internet gambling. Thus, any action by the DOJ cannot be based solely on the UIGEA. If the DOJ is behind this, then I have some questions. 1. Are leftover Bush administration attorneys in the ... Posted in: Poker Legislation |

Re(3): Hypothetical Election I was a life long Republican until the passage of the UIGEA. Then I decided not to vote in 2006. Unless Gov. Huckabee is the Republican nominee for President, I doubt that I will vote in 2008. However, if Gov. Huckabee is the Republican nominee for President, then, for the first time in my life of almost 53 years, I will vote for the Democrate candidate, even if it is Sen. Clinton. It is not just Gov. Huckabee's stand against online gambling. He stated that he did not believe in Evolution. He might as well have called all scientists heretics. Moreover, he is as much a spender and taxer as any ... My take on the present situation after the WTO decision I have reread the WTO report. What happened is that by a 2-1 decision, the panel ruled that essentially the US could comply with the WTO decision by opening up remote horse racing market to Antiqua without opening up the rest of the remote gambling market. They based this absurd decision on a misreading of the appellate ruling in the case and ignored the ruling of the compliance panel. Essentially, the WTO choose not to strongly enforce its decision in this case. Thus, the WTO wimped out and has rendered itself meaningless like the UN. Why would China, US or any other nation ever obey a WTO ... Posted in: Poker Legislation |

Antiqua effectively loses its case It appears that the arbitrators failed to include their $104 million estimate of Antiqua's loss for all remote gambling in its award and just included its award of $21 million for lost revenue due to not being able to offer pari-mutual horse racing. But this does not matter because even with the $104 million the award is minimal. Clearly the WTO wimped out but tried to appear to be tough by awarding Antiqua its IP relief. But its compensation award is so small that the whole award is useless to Antiqua. IMO this makes the WTO meaningless to all but the largest members. We now know why the EU ... Re(7): WTO decision due Dec 14th OBG, IMO you are misinterpreting the schedules. Apparently, the USTR did the same. The sporting events schedule is not about gambling, but services etc. related to the actual sporting event. The "other recreational services" includes gambling, which includes sports betting. I guess that the Clinton USTR either made a mistake or, more likely, did not want foreign competition in such matters as ownership of sports teams, access to all the services provided to the sports leagues or even claims that foreign teams must be allowed to compete in US sports leagues, but the Clinton administration ... Re(2): For those who maintain a good BB/100 rate... This year I have averaged a winrate about 5 Big blinds per 100 hands for levels NL50, NL100 and NL200. Suprisingly my winrate is highest at NL200 and lowest at NL100. Frankly, I don't tilt anymore. I had 5 one out losses last year and more 2-4 out losses than I can remember. So bad beats do not bother me. One tactic that I use to combat tilt is that I keep records on every hand that I play in with a pot => than 80 Big blinds in which I reach a showdown. I keep a record of my odds to win after the flop, odds to win after all in for me or my opponent and the result. Thus, I know if I am ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(3): WTO decision due Dec 14th This decision is more important than a ruling in the iMEGA or BetOnSports/Kaplan cases. If the WTO grants Antiqua substantial damages and its requested IP sanction relief, then the movie and enterntainment industry, big Democrat contributors, will force the Democrats to pass legislation complying with the WTO decision. Most likely this legislation would be attached to a must pass bill like Iraq war funding. Of course, if the WTO does not grant substantial damages or IP sanction, then its decisions will become meaningless and the whole WTO process will be in doubt. In this case, I doubt that ... Re(6): Mike Martz... I live in St. Louis and am a Rams fan. Even when the Rams had Marshall Faulk, they did not run the ball enough, especially in the 2002 super bowl loss to New England. In St. Louis, Mike Martz had no discipline, let all the good defense players go and could not adapt to personnel more suited to a power offense. He is a good offensive coordinator under a strong head coach like Dick Vermeil. Posted in: Off Topic |
