Re:anyone ever notice players with huge scores in '05,'06 who can't even beat a 4.40 now?
It's not a matter of being reasonable or not, it's a matter of knowing what adjustments to make. And running good. As I said, getting an opponent to push his stack while trailing is easy these days, having your hand hold up is the tricky part. Low volume, low stakes mtt players are gone, you can't do it. It's either "high volume anything" or "low volume high stake same players all the time" players that find success now. You can take 30/70 gambles all day if you're playing 10-20 events a day. If you're only playing one or two per day, you simply ...

Re:anyone ever notice players with huge scores in '05,'06 who can't even beat a 4.40 now?
The game has changed, again, since then. Overall players are looser and more aggressive then they were back then. A new player used to be tighter, more passive, now a new player is a shove machine with very low hand requirements. The number of times you're all in before the river has gone up considerably from what it used to be, so now you're at risk more often and relying on the cards to not screw you. Variance was always there, but now it's played out to the end more often. It's all about who gets lucky and who doesn't. I have a feeling this same cycle will play itself ...

Re:Heartland Poker Tour in Detroit
I played a couple of qualifiers, bad beats and coolers all around. The play was pretty bad from what I saw, very very few people had any real idea about hand strengths and stack values. And the whole thing was run pretty poorly, very unorganized. BUT....this was their first time, so things are going to be a bit off. They were short staffed of course, who isn't, and the room simply isn't big enough for this kind of action. I have high hopes that the 2nd time through will be much better, and when the new building is finished all their problems will go away. I hope......

Re:Does anyone else never slow down with AA here?
The key to long term succes in limit is extracting an extra bet and saving an extra bet. There's no way to put him on 45, but his play has to at least give you pause to consider something is up. When the flush hits on the river it's time to call and find out what that is. More times than not, slowing down when a draw hits will be the right play and you'll save more bets than you'll miss. After some time learning each players moves you'll be able to adjust your betting more specifically and make the right plays even more.

Re:Full Tilt Poker Suggestion (FTOPS RANT)
I've suggested this before, some time ago, maybe it's time for it again. A running series of turnys, Just Like Live, where the structure and buyins mimic those of different live events around the world. This month the USPC, next month some WPT, and so on. Can't make it to Aruba this year, here's the next best thing. Copying the structure is easy, and adjusting the level lengths to approximate live play should be fairly simple too. Having a leaderboard for just this series would probably help also.

Re:Officially, is this collusion?
Officially, it is ABSOLUTELY collusion. It doesn't matter what an individual's definition of collusion is, according to the poker sites rules, it is collusion, and that's the definition that counts.

Re:Fullt Tilt Final Table Hand
I don't understand your line here. On the turn, why flat his raise' You're calling off half your stack when your hand can't improve any more. That's the time to push. Unless he's very trappy, he's gonna raise AT pre, at best he's probably got two pair, maybe a flush draw.

Re(1): Thinking players, please read this
You stated yourself, "I still make too many mistakes." Fix this first. It won't matter much what you play if you're making mistakes. If you can't find help from an outside source that's free, joining a training site wouldn't be a bad idea.

Re(1): Are You My B****? Apparently, FTP says YES...
What FTP is offering is a contract, 10 yrs of service for 1M pre-tax per year. They are offering this to all players that qualify thru FTP, ALL PLAYERS THAT QUALIFY. Now what you have to keep in mind is that the winner of the '08 ME could be a complete and utter asshat, a total douche, someone that could easily bring a large amount of unwanted publicity. FTP has a right, and a duty, to protect itself as much as possible by conditioning the contract in the manner they have. Would you want a representative of your company showing up in ads for poker underwear' Of course not, that would look ...

I try to follow a very simple guideline with my chat: I don't say anything in the chat that I wouldn't say if the person was sitting next to me. If you could, and would, say it live, you can type it online.

Re(2): Did i overvalue pot odds with this call from BB?
It's a good call. You're getting 4:1 for a small chunk of your stack, nothing wrong at all with calling there. However, if there hadn't been a call in front of you, you'd only be getting 2.4:1 to call, in which case calling would have been questionable. You'd have to take into account hand ranges and so forth. But at 4:1 it doesn't matter what he holds. This is the hitch with making smallish raises looking for action, you very often get more than you wished. If you get one caller before action gets to the blinds, the BB is getting odds to call with almost any two. And this early in a mtt ...

Re(3): FTOPS $2500 - Playing AA - thoughts please
The only thing I don't like about the c/r is the chance of him checking behind us and getting the turn for free. With a good read on the guy, i.e. knowing he'll semi-bluff a draw if checked to him, then a c/r could work. But without knowing that I'd hate to give him that card for free.

Re(1): FTOPS $2500 - Playing AA - thoughts please
I should have been more specific. You've got him covered, 3 bet the flop around the 2500-3000 range with the clear intention of calling a reshove, not to see where you are at. Without good, specific knowledge of villian, that board offers no way to know where you are at. He could be playing a large number of hands that all look the same at this point, most of which you're ahead of, and your play could as easily be a cont. bet with AK as it is AA. So his read of you is also unclear. I'd have to assume he doesn't hold a 6 and hope I'm right, charge him full price to draw if that's what he's ...

Re(1): Shuffled down cards on FTP.
There is another side to this. The donks that claim they DIDN'T chase, the cards are shuffled so you don't know what they started with. Ex: Player A shows down Q 7 6 X X X 6 in razz. When Player B questions the wisdom of playing that hand, Player A gets offended, claiming the cards are shuffled so he/she/it did NOT start Q high. When it's pointed out that means he/she/it started paired, the "shuffle" defense is repeated, until Player B gives up out of frustration.

Re(1): Is this a good call?
Just to make it official, you're too short to do anything but push preflop. But you seem to be focused on numbers, so here you go: If he holds Adxd, he's about 46%ish to win here, so 2:1 is plenty to call. If he holds any two diamonds, and assumes his draw is good, he's at a MINIMUM 36% to win, which puts you at 64%, so it's still within the 2:1 calling range. So to answer your question, YES, it's a good call.

Re(1): How to play flopped quads??
How have you been playing' How has he been playing' I realize it's a little early but you should have some idea of what he's been doing, and what your image is. This is where so many people misplay their hands, not considering what happened previously. There is no "best" way to play any hand, it all depends. If you've been making c/bets, make another one. If you've been checking flops, check another one. If you've slow played previously, do the exact opposite. If he's aggressive facing a c/bet, make one, if he's passive when lead into but aggro when checked to, check to him. Use the previous ...

Re(1): Thoughts about WSOP 50K Horse
It could very well be boredom, HORSE can get monotonous quickly if you go card dead, and even watching is dull when the pots are limited. I think some of it is also a "how do I beat this guy" attitude. With no real amateurs at the table, everyone sitting is capable of playing the full range of styles at any time. So just because the guy in front of you completes, that doesn't necessarily mean much. I don't think playing straight ABC poker is the way to compete against that crowd, you've got to find some unexpected hands to win. But you're right, they did look very spewy, and each spewer ...

First read the post. If it doesn't make sense in relation to the subject line, switch on the sarcasm-o-meter and scan from top to bottom, then left to right. This is another perfect example of the "all I need is aggression" mentality of NL play. Be very, very aggressive, hope I get lucky, and everything will work out somehow.

You're absolutely right, there are crossover skills that will benefit you in any game you play. For me that's the barometer of a player's skill set. If they are successful in other games they have those skills and are well-rounded. If they don't then they probably rely too heavily on aggression and can't make the adjustments needed for other limit types.

Re(1): I'm getting really confused by all this H.O.R.S.E is for complete losers vibe I'm getting from Mkind
Every poker game is a game of skill, regardless of NL, PL or FL. Being good, or great, at any one game does NOT make you a great poker player, it makes you a great [insert game here] player. The problem with NL is that the ONLY skill many of these guys have is aggression. Don't get me wrong, aggression IS a skill, but it ain't the only one. I can teach a chimp to shove. There's more to it than that. And in a PL or FL game, there's a LOT more. That's why so many players won't ever leave NL, aggression pays better and they have nothing else to fall back on. This is not in any way, shape or ...
