haha in a sense yes... but chalk and good knurling on a bar will help tremendously... if you're dead set on a double overhand grip you could investigate a hook grip, but the learning and pain curve for that grip might not be worth it for your goals...

For deadlifting: Long soccer style socks or Duct Tape (not for those who are ridic hairy). Wearing pants makes the lift more difficult than it needs to be as the bar should be in contact with your body the whole movement. Those scraps on your shins are actually a good indicator that you're doing the lift properly (at least on the bottom).

I believe you'll be unrated until you play 20 or 25 opponents. After that you'll have an established USCF rating, of which I believe they use some mathematical formula to compute. Just because there is an entry fee doesn't necessarily mean there will be payouts, but if it's an adult tourney (i.e. not a scholastic tourney) there should be prizes to the top finishers. Scoring of games is simple. 1 point for a win. 1/2 point for a draw. 0 points for a loss. Tiebreak points are assessed based on the quality of opponents you play.

Agreed. Using a bench shirt or squat suit is an entirely separate lift from raw bench and squat respectively. You actually have to learn how to use a bench shirt and squat suit. For anyone training in a gym with no desire to compete in a geared competition these pieces of equipment are waste of money.

Thanks appreciate it. I've got a few lifts from meets in the past, but I don't normally video my workouts. This past 405 was a spur of the moment lift so I didn't have my phone or camera on me. If you pester me enough I might pm the links to you haha....also I just can't ever see myself rocking the bench shirt or squat suit, maybe someday.

There is a huge difference between pain and soreness. If it is true pain, be cautious and trust your instincts. If it is purely muscle soreness, get after it... your body can take it.

^^^ Deadlifting in socks is choice. I actually wear a slipper type shoe in competition bc most federations won't allow you to compete in socks. I would recommend Chuck Taylors, skaters shoes like Vans or Aiwalks, or obv actually OLY shoes for squats. Work boots are great for any one seriously training squats too, however aren't allowed in competition anymore.

Test it out in the warmup sets and see. I wouldn't automatically assume anything. I've squatted with a low powerlifting bar position and a higher olympic lifting bar position , with both wide and narrow stance respectively, getting good numbers all the same. In general though: wider stance, low bar = bigger squat number. Obviously the closer stance with high bar works for olympic lifters putting up huge numbers too, however...

Thanks man. Thats incredible freaking weight for 15 years old. I deadlift conventional, I've got pretty long arms so I just happen to be well built to deadlift. Worked my tail off the get my raw bench respectable, squat still seems to be the bain of my existence (even though I love squatting). Also love the Becca Swanson reference... gosh she is scary lol.

What you are describing (back parallel to the ground) is a Pendlay Row. A good Pendlay Row will have no hip activation, which is what makes them so difficult.

My guess would be 1 set of 5 reps, 1 set of 3 reps etc... I would normally report that as 1x5, however. My personal workout goals for 2012: 700 DL Belt only, 515 Squat - Belt and knee wraps, 385 Bench -wrist wraps only. I've been powerlifting competitively for several years now so I know I could provide some insight if any of you guys have questions about programming, especially if the stuff you've been running is getting you to plateaus.

What does your son wear on his left ear now' Is he aided' There is a distinct advantage to having bilateral CI's but I'm sure you would have pursued that by now if you were interested. If anything, I hope his left ear is aided in conjunction with his CI. Preferential seating in class is a must, as is informing the teachers of his hearing status. Unfortunately, your son will always have to put up with the stigmas surrounding wearing a CI or a hearing aid. Sometimes it can help if he tries to explain it to his peers but this is usually not the case. As a parent your level of support, ...
