Analyse please? MTT Tournament.. Blinds: 100/200. I had about 2500 left. I had only played one hand whereI doubled up my stack (starting stack 1500) after flopping a set. Of course, no one else atthe table seemed to notice this apparently. I had pocket nines in middle position. It was folded to me and I raised4xBB. I was called by the button who had me slightly outchipped and bythe big blind who was a short stack. The flop came Q-8-2 rainbow. The pot was bigger than my stack now so Ipushed all in. Both players called. The button showed Q-3 offsuit (yes,he called a raise with Q-3) and the short stack had ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): SnG strategy - bet or check down? I agree with you given your mindset (which I think is the proper one...especially with bubble play). I hope you noticed the mindset of your opponents. You are playing to win and "settle" for a smaller prize while they are playing to cash and "hope" to take top prize...big difference. You didn't mention how this SNG ended up. How did you do' Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): ez fold rite? Pocket queens are a bit tricky...thus Doyle gives them their own section in his NLH part of Super System 2. Given the action and the stack sizes, I think a fold here is fine. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(3): Should i have laid kk here? i almost did I agree with these guys. You were destined to go broke here. Keep in mind that the odds of anyone having pocket aces is about 4%. Given the situation you were in, you did the right thing....just ran into some bad luck. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): how to avoid "...my style is quite LAG. How do I avoid stupid plays like this'" A LAG style has a lot of variance. Are you sure that a LAG style is right for you' If you play this way, you are going to run into this situation time and time again. I would strongly suggest you take the advice of the other guys and tighten up your starting hands a bit, take note of your position, and observe your opponents. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): WSOP satellite bubble play - comments please Yeah, this was a mistake. I wouldn't have pushed it with that hand. At the very least, I would have called and taken a flop. You have to remember that playing satellite tournaments require a slightly different strategy than playing a typical cash tournament. You don't have to finish in first place to get the top prize. Thus, you can ease up on the gas pedal. In addition, going all in with a J-9 usually means that you will get called by a better hand (as was this case as you were behind on all streets). True, you were short-stacked compared to the blinds but a little more patience here would ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(2): bankroll managment This chart is pretty accurate. I usually play LHE cash games and would want about 500 BB's for that. I think that if you stick with this chart, you should be okay. I strongly recommend that you read the article called "Basic Bankroll Management" in the strategy archives section of this website (that is where this chart comes from). It helped answer a lot of my questions about bankroll and when to move up/down levels. If you follow the advice in it, you will be set. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Thanks pocketfives! Hey all. Okay, I'm not exactly one of these players that play for thousands of dollars online. Mostly, I play cash games and SNG's and built a free $10 bankroll up to around $50 or so. I occasionally played in MTT's but never had much success in them. I had no trouble making it through half the field but cashing was never happening. I found this site a few weeks ago and figured out some issues with my MTT game based on some of the discussions and the podcasts that I have been listening to. So I entered a tournament with 368 players and finished 2nd! Okay, it was only a $1 entry fee and made ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): Omaha Hi/Lo, your play? Hmm...you have a hand that is a poor low draw and a so-so hand for high. Personally, I may have dropped the hand pre-flop. However, we don't have any indication of the game is playing out or the perceived caliber of your opponents(I haven't read the results of this hand)...so let's continue. I'm counting a $52 dollar pot. With the flop, there isn't much of a low draw. You have an interesting flop for high. If a low card comes on the turn, you would have a low draw but it would be a bad one. Let's assume that you only have a high hand. Assuming that redraiders80 isn't completely insane, his ... Re(1): sng question - doubling up early First of all, I would have raised in EP with the A-K...but let's assess the situation at hand... Maybe it is just me, but I wouldn't have pushed all-in with the A-K. I would have just called the MP's raise and take the flop. You ran into the typical scenario with A-K. Granted, it is a good hand but it usually needs to improve to be a winning hand. If faced with a raise, you are probably looking at a pocket pair (such as the case here). Thus, you are looking at a 50-50 scenario. Do you really want a 50-50 scenario in level 1 of a tournament or SNG' I wouldn't. Those situations can wait ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

When you run bad, you run bad.... Hey folks. Normally, I don't post bad beats as everyone gets them....but how often does everyone get these two in the span of an hour' My first one was in an online tournament last night on Royal Vegas. I had about 2000 in chips with the blinds at 50-100 and I'm in middle position. I'm dealt 10c-10d. I come in for a raise to 500 and get a call from the big blind who I just barely had covered. Flop: 10h-9s-2c . The small blind goes all-in. I gleefully call his all-in expecting him to have a larger pocket pair or something. He shows Ah-9d. Turn: 9c River: 9h And I'm down to about 30 in ... A question for SNG specialists... Hey guys and gals. I've been playing mostly single table SNGs and have been having some decent success with them. Since I have recently joined here and read some of the strategies and articles, I have realized that my aggression in later stages of these events could be higher. As a result, I'm seeing a lot more cashes where I was seeing a lot of finishes "on the bubble" as it were. For those who are giving this advice, thanks. Here is my question. A lot of online sites has multi-table SNGs (3 or 5 tables). Do you find it is a better ROI playing in these events vs. the single table ones' ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): Tipping or not tipping? I've played in Niagara. It seems to be a general practice to tip after winning a pot. Of course, the amount you tip would depend on the size of the pot plus the actual game limits that you are playing at. Speaking for myself, if I won a small pot (just the blinds or something similar) I may not tip if it is a 2-4 limit game. However, I would tip a dollar or two if I was playing a 5-10 game. Ultimately, I would suggest just following what everyone else is doing at the table. Posted in: Poker Discussion |
