Re:Hands That Changed Your Life (Or Didn't) final table of the borgata deepstack...400k for 1st. 31k for 9th. 2nd in chips with 3.5MM the plan from here was to lay low and pick my spots especially after chipping up to 2nd in chips as we went from 10 to 9. the chip leader, a guy who played at my table for a good part of day 2 and got his chips in bad 1000x and got lucky everytime about 1/2hr after the break raises to 500k, i have 3.5MM and look down at red aces...i raise to 1.6MM, he goes all in and i do the happy dance as i instacall flipping over AA..he felts QQ... an ugly bitch of a queen hit the flop and i was toast... winning ... Re:Is there a science to running good? You are right CJ..'perfect' was a poor choice of words...but the intended point was just to distinguish my quality (or lack there of) of play between the two days The crucial part of the hand referenced is the fact that my tourney life was at stake..The old chip and chair adage is really underutilized imo. Of course I am stating the obvious when saying we are always going to have to face races many times during tourneys..But in a situation where you still have ample chips behind to compete with, its not always so neccessary. Here's an interesting hand from yesterdays deepstack ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Is there a science to running good? Really a great well thought out post Z. All the accomplishments you listed here were truly remarkable. Since you bring up these longshot odds, I'm reasonably certain I will never achieve the 10 million to 1 shot that happened to me on Day 2 of one of the WPT Borgata prelim events...Pocket KKs 3 hands in a row. In response to the three ingredients you indicated for running good, I agree with the first two. Skill and luck are basic for any poker success. These are mutual exclusive though. One could luckbox their way to a tourney win or a great cash session but over any length of time you ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Final Table In November & Televised Event Schedule whats the prescedent for this..does any other sporting event delay its championship for any length of time' one of the things i enjoy about multi day or deepstack tournaments is the grind factor- an edge goes to someone that can bring their A game day in day out for a consecutive set of days..how many players can handle the rigor that is playing 14 hours till 2am then coming back for another 14hr day 12 hours later... the marathon style of the main event addresses the ability to bring it day in day out over two weeks..you lose this key component by pushing out the final table date..not to ... Re:When did you figure out you sucked? i think every player goes through similar evolutions..generally starting as a losing player, then getting a good score, albeit for the wrong reasons , donking it off, then from there folks go in various directions..most crash and burn refusing to put the time and studying into becoming a better player..i reflect on various times over the last few yrs where i thought, man im good, where in reality i sucked relative to the better players..i think you need an uncanny drive and motivation to stay ahead of the curve to become a top player..the games change and get harder literally in real time so ... Re(1): neonpils makes sickest call in history? very nice call...however, if he folds, his M is below 7 4 handed and everyone else has 2x-5x his stack..he isnt dead but he's got limited orbits to get back into the thick of things..he doesnt have to be right that often to make this call..... great job, but certainly not 'sickest call in history' material Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): 1st hand in 50/50 w/ AK if its the button or cutoff...insta-snap fall out of chair call..the 50/50 is not particularly deep at 2k..and the tourney plays a lot more fun when you chip up to 4k in level 1. from any other position i do a quick poker ranking search and then re-evaluate. Re(5): Did I play this hand awful????? Definitely far from awful...I think a turn bet is more optimal but the check isnt terrible. Sometimes there are textures that make a check behind for pot control the better line..Here, you are not folding to a reraise, so getting it in on the turn is fine..If you didnt have the jack for example, i would suggest checking behind because now you get a free look at making a near nut hand..AJ with the As is so strong here so Im betting every best to not get cute when you are this strong with so much in the pot...this late in a tourn Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(2): Poker and Relationships hey russ..it's been a while..ty for the resp. i think when we briefly spoke about this ~a year ago'' the situation is now much different and upon closure..now Im playing live weekly with acceptable success and online has been poor at best, especially lately with the 'home' distractions. probably no coincidence since live play is obv offsite and away from the 'craziness'. now with many of the distractions soon to be behind me, i really need to focus on what the future might bring in terms of future SO'rs and their involvement with poker.. never see you on the east coast circuit..you ever come ... Poker and Relationships Not sure where this string goes if anywhere but it's a topic that I have to think hits home with everyone even if our ages range ~18-70. Never see much about it in forums but I think its still an interesting topic nonetheless. I've discussed with some poker friends and there's always varying opinions on the importance of a spouse/gf/bf interest/support/participation in our poker lives... Allow me 1 paragraph of personal history that will shed some light on why I want to talk about this... As I wrote about in another OP a few days ago, I've been approaching poker very apathetically online for ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): Tilt, apathy, outside factors? perhaps this post was theraputic in some way..made two FTs in fields of 400+ out of the 10 tourns Ive played since the OP, with 4 cashes. no huge scores or anything but I just simplified my game a bit got back to some basics. In response to some of the comments, doing play money, changing games or dropping stakes would IMO have a counter effect, making me take things even less seriously than I already was.. what worked for me here is I just played every hand as I would play it if I was on a tv table in the wsop main event. it didnt mean i eliminated raising lite from my mix, but i had a set ...
