PokerStars Roundtable 2012-05-05
Hi Jaxon - Honestly, this just isn't a hot topic at the moment. It's the same kind of issue as PLO tournament guarantees (above). Just to be fair, I opened up the PokerStars client. There are eight (count 'em) real-money 8-games running; the highest stakes game with six players (the most any game has) is $.50/$1. The Hold'em/Omaha mix (closest thing we have to Big O) has exactly one, 2-player $.10/$.25 game going. We obviously could change the offerings, but it would just disrupt an already fragile market. We have to put our energy into areas where it can have big leverage, and ...

PokerStars Roundtable 2012-05-05
This is exactly the right place to ask that question. Let me speak to the product development manager and find out if we could do that. It seems like a perfectly reasonable idea at first blush, but of course it's also a question of where it goes in the devlopment queue. Thank you for the kind words, Status - much appreciated. I don't know what we can do about the PLO guarantees. I mean, I know one guy who would love to play in the PLO events, but he's not allowed to. [1] But we can't force people to play a particular game, and there's not even much we can do to encourage interest in a ...

PokerStars Roundtable 2012-05-05
We've been over this in gruesome detail elsewhere. We have no plans to change the rake structure this year. That's not to say we won't change it, but there are no plans at the moment. Lots of factors determine whether a game is "beatable" and by what percentage of the population. We have no control over many of those factors (including the toughness of the players). I really don't want to completely hijack this conversation with this topic because we've been over it multiple times. Let's just let it go for a while. Best regards, Lee Jones Just as a basic groundule, I'm not going to ...

PokerStars Roundtable 2012-05-05
Just as a basic groundule, I'm not going to discuss the status of the American online poker market, either general speculation or as specifically regards PokerStars. The whole of my answer is here. That is all that I (or any PokerStars employee) can say. I realize that both of these are somewhat non-answers. But big enterprises just don't reveal their inner workings to the public - that's the nature of the beast. If you think about it for a moment, you'll realize that any other approach would be crazy. Please know that as soon as we have information to share publicly we will do so. Until ...

I know we are working on Zoom MTTs and SNGs, but I don't know when they'll be offered. The general rule with those things is that we don't say, "We are going to offer on date ." When it seems like the right time has come (and that obviously includes being comfortable with the software quality), we release them. You will probably see them on the test client before they go live for real money. Regards, Lee Jones

PokerStars Roundtable 2012-05-05
Hi folks - First, a happy Cinco de Mayo to you all [FX: sound of ice cold cervezas being clinked together]. I'm going to do a regular series of PokerStars Q and A's here. You ship the questions and I'll answer as many as I can. Since we're starting from scratch, I'll just make some up and answer them (it's easier that way, too). Q: What's new with Zoom' A: We've changed the number of tables that a Zoom pool counts for from four to three. That means that, in theory, you could play in eight different Zoom pool (if you play fast enough). Q: Isn't SCOOP coming up soon' A: Sure is; it starts ...

Hi folks - Very kind of you to ask after me. I'm alive and well at PokerStars, and am delighted to tell you that I will, in fact, host some SCOOP final tables. Furthermore, we've set up a Home Games club where all the SCOOP fans can gather. We're going to talk about the events you're playing, who you're rooting for in the nosebleeds, and (obviously) rail the final tables. Club ID: 634789 Invitation code: scoop2012 When I'm hosting the final table, I will be chatting and answering questions in that club. We've also got a ton of Team Online and Team Pro folks hosting final tables and we're ...

Lee Jones departure from Cake Poker
Hi all - This is a brief announcement to let you know that, as of yesterday, I have resigned my position at Cake Poker and will not be making any further posts here. Their management has made some strategic decisions with which I'm not comfortable. Please direct any questions or concerns to the Cake support staff; they are top-notch people. Best regards, Lee Jones

Re:Cake Guarantee's Decreased
Hi folks - I think I addressed most of your concerns here. We're not planning to drop our guarantees any more. In fact, we plan to increase the guarantees back up as soon as possible. We've got new partners coming in and new software coming out. We're going to grow from here. Best regards, Lee Jones Cake Poker Cardroom Manager

Re:WTF CAKE!
Hi all - 1. Yes, Sportsbook (one of our large partners) left us as of midnight. We knew this was coming - it was public information for quite a while now. 2. The sky is not, in fact, falling. We are going to have lower traffic for a little while and have adjusted our guarantees accordingly. As Adam said, we have some new partners coming in and have the new software coming out in the next 30-60 days. We are optimistic that we'll have overall growth as a site over the calendar year 2010. 3. We dropped the guarantees exactly as much as we felt necessary and not a nickel more. We will, of ...

Cake Poker announces change to minimum buy-in in no-limit hold'em games
Official announcement regarding minimum buy-ins in NLHE games Hi folks - For those of you who have been asking about the short-stacking situation... We have decided that we're going to raise the minimum buy-in in our NLHE games to 30 big blinds, effective April 8th. There will be an official press release coming out shortly, but most of you know the context: We weren't eager to do this; to a first approximation, we believe that people who play by the rules of poker should be allowed to do so however they wish. [1] However, 20 BB short-stack shoving is disruptive enough that ...

Re:cake poker down?
Hi all - I'm hoping this will the final announcement regarding the downtime we had yesterday. As you're all aware, we were offline for quite a while yesterday because our server facility in Curacao, Cyberluck, had a power outage. This took down a number of gaming sites including the Pinnacle sportsbook. [1] We believe that we're past those problems now and trust that the power situation at Cyberluck won't be an issue in the future. Here are some takeaway points: We are extending the Gold Spree promotion by a full day to make up for the time that people weren't able ...

Re:cake poker down?
Hi folks - Obviously, yesterday was not our favorite Friday ever at Cake. The power outage at Cyberluck kept us offline for quite a while, and then there were a couple of glitches as it came back up. But everything has been running normally throughout the night and the engineers are apparently going to babysit it during the weekend. Here are a few bullet points of interest: The tournaments canceled properly and everybody should have been refunded per our regular policy. If you were in a cash game and were affected by this, then please contact support and they will review the situation. ...

Re:Cake Poker Network downtime on Monday, March 1st ~8:30 PM Eastern Time
Cake downtime update (or uptime downdate - your call) Hi folks - Things are starting to come back. The power is beginning to be restored and we are restarting the servers (and seeing if they were damaged in the crash). But we think we see the light at the end of the tunnel. A few points: Your money (even six-figure balances) is 100% safe. We are running a business here and your confidence and loyalty to us is at the core of that business. We will find some way of apologizing for the mess and thanking you for your patience and understanding, but that will come after we've picked up ...
