Best Las Vegas poker tourney structures <=$100
Hello, long time reader, (although certainly dropped after Black Friday...) Make first trip to Vegas with the wife in a couple weeks, wondering if anyone could share their favorite places for daily tournaments. I found this site Anyone know if the info is accurate (or close enough') And if it is accurate, are they serious with some of these' Some tournaments are listed at starting with 3K in chips with 100/200 blinds' Who would play that' If you happen to know Atlantic City as well as Vegas, I like the structure the Showboat has, so something like that in Vegas would be great. I suppose ...

Re:another odds problem
You can't simply add 1/4 to 1/3 and get the answer. That's not correct. Using that logic, if we asked you to pick a 3rd card, you'd add 1/4+1/3+1/2 and come up with an answer of over 100%, with still a card on the table. If you wish to write it out that way, you figure out the chance of NOT getting the card. 3/4 on the first try. 2/3 on the second try. Multiply 3/4 * 2/3 and you get 50% of NOT getting the card. Therefore 50% of getting it.

What's the ruling?
This happened in a home game last night, I wasn't in the hand, nor do I have a problem with the way it was resolved, but I guess I was curious what the official rule would be in a live tournament, or how you'd handle it in a home game. After the flop, Player A goes all-in. Player B, seated next to Player A decides to make the call. It folds around to player C, who is thinking about what to do. While he's thinking about it, Player A casually shows his cards to Player B, mistakenly thinking that Player B was all in, which he was not. So now do we do, besides give Player A a hard ...

Re:I can't understand this simple stat problem HELP :(
On average, you'll win $1 for every two flips, right' So that's .50 per flip.

PLO question. Flopping top straight
Hello, This situation has come a few times on me lately, not sure the best way to play it. I'm playing low stakes, either 2c/5c or maybe .10c/.25c, I don't think there is a whole lot of difference in the levels, but that could just be because I haven't played it enough. The situation involves me in late postion, an unraised (or min raised) pot where at least 4 or 5 prople are seeing the flop. The flop comes out 9-10-Q. I hold JKxx. For arguments sake, lets say that there is a flush draw out there as well (which I have no part of) There is a bet, and a call (maybe two calls). I know ...

Quick sharkscope question
Thanks in advance... Sharkscope includes the rake when they calculate your profit & ROI, right' So how is it possible (not that the amounts are large), to show a small profit, yet have a negative ROI' A friend of mine "Matt1766" (but I'm sure there are plenty of other examples) showed me his stats, and I couldn't explain it to him.

Thanks. Just wasn't sure if there was a difference since the first tables were of different sizes. I can see that they aren't.

Quick Double Shootout Question
This is only the second one I've played... So there were 45 people in it, and I just finished off my table of 4. So I'm sitting with 6000 chips, waiting for the other tables to finish. The people that win a 5 person table will have 7500 chips. When the final table begins, will the chips even out, or will they have more as a bonus for having to beat out more people' And will the blinds pick up from where the last table left off, or do they start at a certain amount' Thanks in advance. -LegFuJohnson

I thought it was a little funny as I'm reading this thread there is the advertising banner for pokerroom advertising this $5M guaranteed tourney for the previous dates.

Re(5): what are the LOW hand rankings in omaha hi/lo??
EDIT: wait a minute, under Tim's scenario, A2347 would lose to A3456, so I think you have to go low to high on the numbers.... As it should. A2347 should lose to A3456. A3456 is a better "lo" hand. It's 6 high. 6 high is less than 7 high.

No rake at all?
I haven't used World Sports Exchange to bet in a long time, but I still log on to look at odds... obviously, they still have my email address, and today I got this: Dear World Sports Exchange Client: World Poker Exchange is about to turn the online poker industry on its head. Starting today, we'll be completely eliminating the rake from the real-money games in our poker room, regardless of table limit or game type. This makes World Poker Exchange the world's only venue where it's completely free to play poker-and yes, that includes tournament play as well. The house rake is poker's silent ...

Re(2): stars silverstar VIP freeroll
I was there, but as was said, it's less than a $2 MTT with almost 1400 people. Only half my table was there, I called a small pre-flop raise with K-8. Flop of 8-8-4, all the money went in, preflop raiser had A-A, Ace on the river, gg me. I'm almost relieved to not have to continue. Almost.

Wish you luck. I've only played two of these so far. One 2nd, and one 4th. But I've got a new account on Pokerstars, so that's probably why I'm catching the cards.

Re(9): PartyPoker Side bet odds
What does your hand odds have to do with the sidebet' If you've got 4 black cards, and the flop being all red is therefore less than 8-1, why wouldn't you make an 8-1 bet on an all red flop'

Re(3): Chip and a Chair Comebacks
I found myself down to 10 chips after hand 3 of a SNG on Paradise awhile ago. Two hands later I got A-6 soooted, and managed to get a straight around the 6. So I was back up to 70. Then doubled, doubled, doubled... all with the best hand, I don't think there were any other bad beats, and I ended up winning the thing.

looks like there could be quite a wait, depending on your table. Still 7 people on mine... and two tables are waiting for the other 26 to finish...

Shootout Tournies on Party?
Anyone tried one of these yet' I don't think it's quite like the 81 person double shootout tournies that I've heard about, because there only the winner advances. On these, the top 3 at each table advance to the next round. If there is a need for Round 4, then it plays out like a regular MTT. Prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd each round.

Re(2): WSOP - would you rather win it, or final table two years in a row?
The Cowboys beat the Bills twice in a row. And give me the bracelet as well. If you are good enough to get the respect, you'll get it at another tourney. If you aren't then you'll be happy you got the win. Not that I'd sneeze at two final tables, but put my picture on that wall.

Re(3): need help with math
I'm certainly no expert... but I can't imagine that playing $5+$1 tourneys are going to pay off too much. Right off the bat you are dealing with a 16.67% rake (as opposed to 9% or less at other levels)

Thanks for the input. I'm not sure I'm going to donate $100+ on a MTT, but I might move up the SNGs and see how things go. I just won my first $50 SNG, so maybe I should just get to Vegas before this streak ends.

LegFu almost Owned
Just finished 2nd in the Party $20+$2 tourney. 1,170 entrants. Picked up $2800 for my efforts, not a lot to some of you, but for a small timer like myself (that just cashed out $500 when I reached $1,000) this is pretty huge. Of course, the final hand had his 6-6 beat my J-J... but I'm sure I gave out my share of bad beats along the way. Including one where my pocket fives (of course), got a river 5 against a K-Q when a Q fell on the flop. So, while I have no intention of moving up my stakes, I'll stick to the 2-table and single table $20 and $30 tables... Should I treat myself to one or ...

Re(1): home game blind question
I'm pretty sure in Situation #1, the button doesn't move, that will keep the blinds correct. Having a "dead" button probably accomplishes the same thing. Situation #2, the button moves to the left, there would be no small blind, only the big blind would get posted. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me, cause that's what I've been using.
