This is a window into the mind of anti-science, paleo-Christian, GOP which will likely ratify a platform that bans abortion in all cases, tried to redefine rape in Congress this year to limit the recourse victims, believe women to be subordinate to men, etc., etc. McCaskill 2012 IMO. Studies have been done. Rape victims have about twice the pregnancy rate (6.8 vs 3.4) compared to a single incidence of consensual sex. The difference goes higher when isolated for women bit using birth control. Approx 32,000 conceptions annually in rape cases. So not rare and woman has no control biologically active or passive other than modern medicine which Akin would be more than happy to deny women if he gets the chance. Which ... ***Official Breaking Bad season 5 discussion*** The whole "there's a nanny Cam, I disabled it" thing bugged me. Mostly because during the whole setup I had been thinking about the problem of home surveilance, and how they would get around that. But I guess if the pest killers are really "Top Shelf Second Story men", they should be all over that kind of thing. Overall a weak episode IMO, and I definitely agree that watching Breaking Bad in one episode lots is a very different experience than watching seasons altogether. DVD/streaming seasons has changed the format, and I think great shows are writing to that experience, which makes for ... Posted in: Off Topic |

Prometheus ** Spoilers** I thought the Pearce casting was actually pretty well done. 1. His voice is perfect. 2. That promo was great. 3. When we see a very old man on the verge of death it seems natural. Peter Weyland was railing against his own mortality with all the might of a galactic corporate empire. There was nothing natural about that. So in a way the contrasting imagery of Pearce in makeup and the younger Weyland/what we know Pearce to look like worked for me. I certainly hope they go forward in time in next movie (if it gets made), but some flashbacks to the growth of the Corporation wouldn't hurt. Posted in: Off Topic |
