Once again, Neymar trying to do way too much by himself. He is a great talent no doubt, but I dont think his soccer IQ is anywhere near that of Messi or Ronaldo.

True Detective - HBO
Brilliant show--it's kinda like Twin Peaks minus the supernatural elements but with the brutal, unsettling, dark side of human nature depicted in Se7en. And the two leads are absolutely great; Matthew McConaughey has been fantastic in the last 2 years but this performance might be even better than anything he's done on film, including the movie for which he'll likely win an Oscar.

GG Ken Norton . . .
He was great no doubt but he fought in the US maybe once in his entire career and the lack of exposure here contributed to him being one of the lesser known greats in boxing. Still, the Ring Magazine ranked him as the best middleweight of the last 50 years and most hardcore fans rank either him or Marvin Hagler as the top middleweight of the post Sugar Ray Robinson era. For my money, Henry Armstrong is the most underrated great of all time. They guy held the featherweight, lightweight and welterweight titles of the world at the same time when there were only 8 weight classes.

Mayweather v. Canelo Fight Thread
there are 7-8 hall of famers on that list (Gatti is already in, De La Hoya, Mosley, Cotto and Marquez are first ballot hall of famers when they become eligible and Corrales and Hatton will likely get in at some point as well; not to mention Castillo and Judah, who might have an outside shot as well as Canelo who has HOF potential notwithstanding last night's performance).

Live versions of songs that are better than the original
Lots of Springsteen songs--his studio tracks are great but the band is almost perfect live; this is probably the best example:

Game of Thrones Season 3 disc (No Book Spoilers)
I think she has been acting in mainstream films in Europe for the last 10 years or so, but yeah she did some porn in Germany before that. She is one of the leads in a great 2004 film called Head On (which I believe was on my Top 20 list for the decade) btw if anyone wants to check it out and was likely cast in Game of Thrones based largely on her performance in that movie.

skeeze666's 2012 Year In Review (Movies) TL;DR
The Thin Red Line might be my favorite film of all time. I love every film on that list, but two real gems that are often overlooked are Sugar--which is the story of a Dominican minor league pitcher in the US and Memories of Murder-- possibly the best serial killer/police procedural I have seen in the last 20 years.

skeeze666's 2012 Year In Review (Movies) TL;DR
It's probably very close with the performance in Syriana; maybe the physical transformation is what puts that performance over the top for a lot of people. I love Michael Clayton (I read that Denzel Washington actually turned that role down, can't imagine how he would have done, but it would have been interesting) but I will take the Clooney's nuanced subtlety in The American over the exuberance of Michael Clayton, I think.

skeeze666's 2012 Year In Review (Movies) TL;DR
The American is very underrated. It is like an homage to some of the 70s procedural films, like a cross between The Conversation and The Day of the Jackal. I also think it is Clooney's best performance to date and that includes Syriana, Michael Clayton, The Descendants and Up in the Air. Most people dont have the patience to fully appreciate it, which is fine.

skeeze666's 2012 Year In Review (Movies) TL;DR
Beasts of the Southern Wild was my favorite film of the year, but maybe I'll do something a bit different and list my favorite film of the year for each of the past 15 years. 1998-- The Thin Red Line (Malick) 1999-- Buena Vista Social Club (Wenders) 2000-- American Psycho (Harron) 2001-- In the Bedroom (Field) 2002-- 25th Hour (Lee) 2003-- Memories of Murder (Joon-ho) 2004-- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (Gondry) 2005-- The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (Jones) 2006-- The Lives of Others (Von Donnersmarck) 2007-- No Country for Old Men (Coen Brothers) 2008-- Hunger ...
