Ex-Professionals that moved on since BF...
I moved to Costa Rica for 6 weeks or so and hated it so i just broke my lease and came back to the US. Playing on Lock now but I'm really lacking the work ethic. I play PLO and honestly feel the games on there are softer than they were on Full Tilt but maybe because I'm playing a few levels below what I was used to playing on FT. I was used to playing 3hrs or so a day and now i'm feeling completely over it after an hour. And i play as my sole source of income and still cant find the motivation to play more than 1hr/day. This leads me to believe that maybe I need to start finding something ...

Jacksonville,FL WPT Fall Series Nov. 11-22
I just moved away from Jacksonville and I can say it is the best place i've ever lived and I've been all over. Not sure if the WPT event is going to be at the Orange Park or St. Johns Poker room but don't judge Jacksonville as a whole on the area around the Orange Park dog track/poker room. There are some great bars in the downtown area, the town center area, and the beaches. I recommend staying away from the orange park area and you'll enjoy it a lot more.

PLO from NL.. advice please
It's similar it terms of balls i suppose. You can play small to mid stakes nl or plo just playing an abc style just value betting and not having to play with any balls at all really and still grind out a profit. But to become one of the top players at the smaller stakes or in order to win at all in the bigger games you have to learn how to bluff effectively and value bet lighter. The main difference is value betting light in holdem may be betting 2nd or 3rd pair on the river etc while value betting light in plo is betting the Jhi flush or the bottom end of a straight. But i feel like math and ...

The best bet I have ever made...what's yours?
Mansion poker did a promotion where you could bet $1k on the steelers to cover their first game of the year against the dolphins after they won the superbowl a few years back. If you won you got 1k and if you lost they refunded so it was a freeroll but you had to bet the steelers. They limited it to the first few hundred people so I did it early when it was Pitt -4. Then Ben went and wrecked his motorcycle so they had to start Charlie Batch and the spread went to Pitt +3. Wasn't looking good when they were down 2 with 2 mins or so left and on defense. Then Joey Porter picked one off and took ...

Optimal Usage of Full Tilt Promotional Items
yeah best value is tourney tix but if you're like me and you're a cash game grinder and hate playing tourneys then you should take the ironman medals and use the medals to buy points then use the points everytime you hit 1.1M to buy a 5k bonus. Unless you're desperate enough for the extra money to buy shit with your points from the store and sell it on ebay. but if you're going to do that wait until you absolutely are done with poker so you dont get hit with the rakeback loss.

Why does every girl i date/screw have some passionate hate towards poker?
Start calling it your job instead of playing poker. When you sit down to grind tell them you're starting work for the day. Don't tell them about any swings, just tell them that there is short term luck but at the end of most months it's shockingly predictable and consistent income. And tell them you've had other job offers but you make way more money at poker than they offered you and you're not going to take a pay cut to go work for someone else. These things will help them see it more as a job than as a game you play for fun that happens to involve money.

Cross Posted from 2+2...who dropped out of college to play poker?
I dropped out after my junior year to play poker. I did well but realized that if i just sucked it up for one more year i'd have a degree and i could always go back to poker. I went back, finished, and now play poker for a living anyway. But it's nice to know I have my business management degree to fall back on if the game ever exceeds my skill level.

What has been your big break/score which spurred you forward playing poker?
I was going to quit trying to play poker for a living until FTP gave me rakeback almost 3 years ago. Without the money I make from rakeback I probably wouldnt be able to play for a living. I play cash though with very few tourneys.

Today's FTP Update
The new rake calculation will only effect the nittier players in ring games. If you're in the top 50% of looseness you'll be rewarded by the new system. If you're a nit you'll be punished by it. I think it's great but I guess that's because I get in pots and have been getting screwed for years by paying the rake for nits who sit there and 16 table their 10/9/2 style to grind away rakeback. FU nits, TY FTP

FTP New rewards system: Black card..
Yeah i got a letter in the mail about this today. Says in 28 days they'll send me the actual card. I guess it'll have some sort of number on it to enter when i log in or something' Anyway it says the store will be up the 30th so we can see what they offer then. It'll be interesting to see the conversion rate of FTP->$$$. Isn't it currently like .005/point or something like that when buying items in the store' Anyway, glad to see ftp doing something for us grinders.

tbvle/50 billionth hand guy 5k ME
I am not talking about the guy that won the 50b hand. I was talking about this guy ALFFRANZ that has an avg buyin of $1.46 and has a 400k stack in the $5,200 wcoop ME. That's what I said is kinda fishy.

Are some Pro's the exception rather than the rule?
I think it would be +ev overall for people to reduce the number of tables at least during the wcoop scoop and ftops events they are playing. Go ahead and grind 12 at a time or whatever you normally do but on days you're playing a tourney where you could potentially make a major major score reduce tables. But I'm a cash player so my opinion may not be the best.

Dimitri Nobles???
I met him at some minor poker series thing in biloxi a few years back. I'm not sure how baller he really is though because he was trying to work a deal with a friend that worked there to get the left over tshirts after it was over so he could take them home to try to sell/wear. He actually didnt play that terribly during my time with him. He was also a pretty cool guy and called me "lil homie" which was probably his name for any white guy that is smaller than he is.

PLO players, need your insight
If you think he's the type to stack off w/ ATxx or A6xx or AKQJ type hands then I'd raise flop. As played I really dont hate the turn flat but you could also have gotten it in there b/c you're still in decent shape against 78xx and AAxx doesnt make up a lot of his range really. I think leading the river is good because there are a lot of hands that he is going to check back if you go for the C/R. In the end, don't love how you played it but dont hate it either.

Do most pros hate poker and the lifestyle around it?
I started poker at age 19. Was good at it and basically won from the beginning. But I was also an idiot and decided that I had to move up if I ever had the money to. So anyway I paid my way through college with poker and got an apartment and car and stuff but still felt the need to play as high as possible which of course made me go broke. To continue my lifestyle I had to get a real job. I stayed there long enough to save up a 5k bankroll and 6 months living expenses then went back to poker with a new appreciation for the gift and opportunity I have to live this lifestyle. I play cash ...

Question about PLO swings
I play 1/2-3/6 and have been a consistent winner for a couple years as a pro and I have had a 50 buyin downswing and I probably have at least 1 15-20buyin downswing per month. But also you'll have days where you run 10 buyins over expectation or below expectation. In the end though I'm within 10 buyins of my expected over 500k+ hands

Re:is poker bad for me
I went through all this too Chuck. Seriously. And contrary to what others have said I think it's a good thing. Yeah its fucked up to think poker all day long and want to play every free moment but its also the mindset that gets you to be a good winning player. The key is to spend as much time learning (and not just from books and videos.. talk with other players and experiment with your own play) as you do playing. When you start winning consistently you can scale back the learning and play more. As for how I ended up... the thrill passes over time. Poker didn't take over my life ...

cash game you check raise this hand. being a tourney you lead out full pot hoping to take it down there. If you get raised you probably have to get it in.
