Has Science Refuted Religion? Yours is a very shallow understanding of religion. That's okay, though; most religious people share it. Posted in: Off Topic |

Has Science Refuted Religion? Has nothing to do with ethics and everything to do with human nature. Whether or not Science is a perfectable art (and it isn't until we can create a control universe), it's imperfect people who have to practice it. As long as Scientists are people and not perfect angels, in practice it can never be unbiased. To idealize it is to practice pernicious pedantry. Posted in: Off Topic |

Syrian Massacre Insert "modern day incarnations" before Islam and Christianity, and I agree. Modern-day Christianity is incredibly tame and docile compared to, say, almost any other time in recorded history. The ecumenical movement (which every true believing Christian prior to 1900 would call a grand heresy) was the great moderating force for Christians. Islam needs a similar awakening, but with the momentum moving towards Islamism, it's worrying. It's especially worrying because the natural reaction for Christianity may be an escalation as a reaction to Islamic theats, current, potential, or imagined. ... Posted in: Off Topic |

Syrian Massacre Meh, the thrust of my post is about the way so many liberals treat Islam with kid gloves and Christianity with endless vitriol. LS is the one who steered it to "Islamophobia" (lol). Again, if I'm wrong about Islam being the plurality of child murders, etc., I'll retract, it was ancillary to my point. Posted in: Off Topic |

Syrian Massacre I'm too drunk to care to spend time to add up the victims, but I'll happily retract that statement if Islam doesn't end up No. 1 in numbers (not incidents) since 1982. I guess I missed the thousands of Christians marching through the streets of Boston, NYC, and DC celebrating the OKC Bombings or the Norway massacre. Further, comparing isolating incidents (McVeigh, Brevik) to systemic evil is an impressive act of false equivalence. I'll change my tune if Eurofascists start systematically murdering Muslim immigrants, but let's not pretend they are the same just so you can make a point. If ... Posted in: Off Topic |

Syrian Massacre You are also one of the most thoughtful posters on this site. There are plenty of exceptions, but, as I said, it's the garden variety dipshit liberals that make kellykip want to cry whose priorities are completely fucked up. It was the first thing that came to my head because literally an hour prior I got done reading about how evil and intolerant American Christians are, and then I see true evil. It's insulting, and if I were a liberal, I'd be calling these motherfuckers out on the carpet. It's self-absorbed narcissistic bullshit, and it really pissed me off in the moment. I also ... Syrian Massacre 1. what dumb ideas' Again, no presumptive liberal worldview. Show your work. 2. My point was the misplaced priorities of American liberals. 3. exclusive' No. significant plurality/majority over the past thirty years' yes. You have to admit that your garden variety American liberal spends way way more time condemning Christians for relatively minor shit while giving apology after apology for Islam. The rest of us are pretty fucking tired of it. Posted in: Off Topic |

Syrian Massacre Absolutely. I'm just thinking of all the ridiculous posts I see on Facebook, etc., spewing hyperbole about American Christians, but not one word about victims like these. maybe I'm just friends with too many SWPL liberals. Posted in: Off Topic |

Has Science Refuted Religion? Isn't the definition of religion partly to with searching for and finding truths' No one seems to take that claim at face value (nor should they). The Scientific structure certainly gives us the best chance at sussing out truth from noise, but you have to remember that science is conducted by fallible people. Further, much of science is based on interpretation of data, so there is still subjectivity, even in that. I will 100% agree that Science is a better way to the truth than Religion, but that's not really saying a whole lot, and the Science worshippers that inevitably show up in ... Posted in: Off Topic |

Has Science Refuted Religion? LOL at people who think that Science is some unbiased cure-all. Scientists are people just like anyone else, with their own inherent biases, cognitive dissonance, agendas, and motives. Science is a tool, nothing more or less. It is not a replacement, a proxy, or an ameliorative for religion, or truth. I had this article open already, but seems relevant here: #taleb Posted in: Off Topic |

Has Science Refuted Religion? Interesting grouping. I know nothing about Ian Hutchinson. I also think there are better representatives of evangelicalism than D'Souza, he makes so many concessions that he is essentially starting the debate in the middle. Still, will hopefully find time to watch this weekend. Posted in: Off Topic |

Where were the Democrats on this? Naturalistic fallacy and a misunderstanding of evolution. Nothing is "given" or "taken", there are genetic mutations, and certain mutations make some behaviors more or less selected for. That doesn't mean that there are actions that are ameliorative, and other actions which are detrimental, but there is no "design". Everything we eat is something we tried, we liked, and didn't kill us. That doesn't mean that things we eat are things we are "meant" to eat. Okay, except your helping prove my point for me. Northern Europeans domesticated cattle and began drinking milk. I have no idea if ... Posted in: Off Topic |
