Re(1): So I'm Taking the Plunge... I don't know much about your play, haven't watched, but you CLEARLY have tremendous skills. Your accomplishments are great, but I just cannot fathom not finishing school before deciding to make this move. Coming from a family that has not had much higher education I think you of all people would appreciate the opportunity that you have. In my opinion, for what it is worth, college is the single most important time to learn both the academic and social skills needed to be successful. I also think it is key to do it at this time in your life and not as a "fall back" if poker fails. Do you ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(2): Everytime I get into a major, this happens Karnage, Thanks for the reply. I think your reasoning makes sense. I wouldn't change how I played this, but I can understand what you're saying. The downside of the tight image is that people will try to bluff you and can get lucky. Another piece of knowledge tot ake into account. Posted in: Bad Beats |

Re(2): Humble Player To Watch Thanks for the responses Adam and Lenny. On a related note, what do you think the whole point of promotion is' Is it an honest bid to increase your name recognition and chances at sponsorships/consulting work or is it just plain ego based' In other words, as P5's runners, what is the point of having your name known other than hubris' Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Does Self Promotion Work? I don't hate self promotion nearly as much as it seems like everyone else does, but I do find it interesting that some players on this site who don't post all the time or don't cause controversy are rarely if at all acknowledged. Yankees 31 (Dugan32, Dugan31) has been destroying lately. Off the top of my head: 2nd in the UB 30K last week 7th in the SCN (after AA crushed by KK) 4th in the Party 500K (After a sick 7-3 bad beat and having to try to outlast JJ...twice) Am I biased' Of course, he is one of my best friends and has been for 15 years (as I am sure the sleuths at P5's would find ... Re(7): Had a Shotgun in my face tonight I understand most people's outrage about the money being removed from wallets. Its been asaid a dozen times in this forum, but Ill chime in and agree that money out of wallets certainly sounds shady. However, I disagree STRONGLY with everyone's "don't they have something better to do attitude." It's a law and you're breaking it. Just because there are worse crimes to be committed doesn't mean that these should be ignored. Saying that cops shouldn't be breaking up a poker game because their city is known for murders or violent crime is just stupid. I imagine pulling over suspiciously driven ... Re(3): New Poker Book Guaranteed to Produce Winner Nicely said pbrentos, I was thinking the same thing. It seems to me that NeBlis wants to get on a pedestal here (hence his radical statement about throwing the bible in the trash and "oversimplification" of an admittedly NOT simple issue). It is extremely ignorant and foolish, not to mention hypocritical, to condemn people for sharing a different view on religion. By stating that your opinion is correct without proof (which no one has) aren't you effectively playing the role of the church' I used to view Church as a placebo, but have recently becoming more accepting of religion as a ... Re(1): Full Tilt MTTs I play a lot of these low limit MTT's and agree with what you have said. Not really any better play than Party and you will get a lot of crazy calls and bluffs. I think in these type of situations it is really important to abide strictly by the first level rule and play super tight until at least the first break. I can't tell you how many times I have gotten down to around 1000 after the break and been tripled up when I had an almost lock on the hand. Also, the bubble in these 10 dollars is amazing. Re(4): How Influential Is Annie? Dont bother asking Ozzy, just ask Yankees31. I havent heard Shawn or Annie address why the chop stats were taking SO long. I firmly believe that this is the reason that the first chop fell apart. After an hour of talking Trapster got so fed up (along with some of the other final tablers, that they just wanted the damn cards). While it isn't 100% certain they would have chopped, I sincerely think that UB cost Yankees31 about $50,000, not because of the bad beat, but because they can't do division. Sure, they said that they can't have errors in their numbers, but c'mon, we did about 100 ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(2): SCN: What Happened They actually talked for a long time about a chop with 7 left. I watched all of that chop talk as one of my friends (and coincedentally my roommate) was at the Final Table. The y man chop talk was really disorganized and went on for about an hour. It was extremely difficult to not only get 7 people on the same page, but also to explain the deals over text chat with all 7 chiming in at different times They initially discussed a straight chip equity pot and after UB took about 40 minutes to calculate the payouts, they changed there mind and said that they need something to play for first. ... Learning The Brutality of Variance When I started playing cards I knew that variance was a necessary and unfortunate side of Poker. After all, the game is gambling no matter how you look at it and there are going to be bad beats, huge odds beaten and overall some maddening things that happen. However, I used to think that variance was a combination of mistakes by myself (i.e. Im bound to make some stupid plays over a long enough period) and suckouts by others (i.e. even AA loses to 2 5 o). It isn't until I became a competent player that I learned what I think variance really is. Variance is having a set lose to quads. ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(6): F UB SUPPORT I STILL don't play on Pacific Poker because of a very similar problem. When I first started I played on Pacific and only played limit ring games. Essentially, I made a couple of deposits through Citadel that went through OK. One time I "fat fingered" the check number and gave them a number of a check I had already used (to buy hardcore barely legal porno no doubt). Pacific gives me the money in my account anyway (I assume b/c I had deposited before successfully and they "trusted" me enough to not wait for the check number to clear) and then freezes my account when they say the check wont ...
