Live Sit and Go's in Vegas
I pretty much quit playing poker cold turkey 3 years ago...or whenever that was when netteller went down after it became illegal or whatver to play online. I know it didnt stop most..but for me it was a good time to focus my energy in more profitable areas. Anyway...I seem to remember the RIO doing single table tournaments. Are any places still doing these are a regular basis'

Vegas - Caesars
Does Caesars in Vegas still have those low buy in with really slow structure tournaments going. Last time I was there was July/Aug of 06 and at the time it was the best structure for a small live tournament anywhere. I think it was something like a $65 buy in one rebuy one add on or something like that...pretty good value tournement.

Re(1): WOW 100$ 200$ on stars
Deep stacked I'd never want to push with JJ after I reraised a guy and he came back over the top. Short stacked knock yourself out but deep stack it seems like a dumb move where you can trap yourself. I think if he really thought he was ahead he could have just raised there on the end and saved much of his stack. How often do you see a guy bluffing preflop after he raised, was raised and then came back over the top' The fact that he came back over the top leads me to think he is stronger than if he just pushed all in back over. Then again in the world of 100/200 its a regular thing for guys ...

Are you talking the buy in is $3' What's the bounty for each knock out' I know in the one I was talking about it was a $240 buy in and $40 went to the bounty and the $200 went to the prize pool just like any other tourney.

FT Brawl tourney
So I havent played poker in a long time but I still get all the emails. I saw one today from FT that talked about this Brawl tourney they do where pretty much everyone has a bounty on them. While not a totally new concept I still have not ever seen a tournament where everyone has a bounty on them...so I though it was pretty cool. This got me to thinking....how would you change up your tourny strategy (or would you') knowing that you are going to get called more when you are all in' Seems it would make playing a short stake a lot harder too. Also do they plan on offering this type of tourney ...

Triple draw is one game I never really learned to play enough to make any money on. It's good that you expanded. I think playing the other games kept me in poker for another year or so...but after a while it was still the same ole grind for me.

Re(2): Quitter
Yeah a passive idiot player is always better than an aggressive idiot player...the aggressive guy doesnt know it but he is at least making less mistakes usually. Most of 06 I started playing nothing but Stud 8 or better, O8B,...pretty much anything because it seemed the 1/2 and 2/4nl holdem games I was playing started to get harder...my swings were higher and my win rate was down....plus I got bored of NL holdem being the only game people knew how to play well. Seemed like those other games were much softer...I could play lower and make more. I'm sure people are catching up now in those games ...

Quitter
I'd been playing live then online for hours and hours a week from about 2001 to 2006. A few years in a row I went out to Vegas when the WSOP was going on...it was cool going to some of the website's parties...especially in the earlier years because they were easy to get into...then they started getting harder to get into. Anyway...after that Summer of 06, the legal problems online poker was facing, and most importantly the fact that I pretty much was totally burned out...I all but quit playing poker. The last year and a half I was doing a lot of proping and boy was it a grid. I made decent ...

The one thing I wonder here is he getting his rake back'' Getting 100% rake back is like roids for a good player. I think they should disclose that...but I'm sure he is getting 100% rakeback.

Re(3): Chris Ferguson's $0 to $10,000 Challenge
Honestly I think just about any decent player that has patience and discipline could do this. From late 2002 to 2005 I did. I started with a $25 deposit on UB…just to give online poker a try. About a month later I took that $25 back out and played and played just on my winnings and build up quite a big roll. Perhaps I cheated because I started with $25. I have a good poker friend that started with nothing and won a few bucks on a freeroll and pretty much did the same. But being a good player is really the easy part, patience and discipline are where most fail.

Re(1): Funny post about Phil Gordon...
I meet him about two and half years ago while I was at TI at the club...can't remember the club name...nice place. Anyway everyone was just having fun. I didnt go out of my way to meet him but I think I was going to the restroom and he was coming from the bar and we crossed paths so I said hello to him. He was pretty cool. I told him I played on Full Tilt and liked the site...this was right after the site started. He was like what's your screen name and I told him and he tried to run a bluff and said yeah I think I remember playing with you...I was like no I've never played against you on ...

Re(5): Most Admired Pro Poker Player??? Let's concentrate on positives instead of negatives :)
There is no question that DN has had more tournament winnings. But DN has worked very hard to promote himself but as far as I can see he hasnt had the payoff that Hellmuth or Lederer has had. So I think he worked hard but not smart (that is if his goal was to make money which I'm not sure it is). DN just now got a book out and he's kind of late to the party with that. Now there are like 200 poker books...back when Hellmuth put out his first book it was pretty much the first new wave of books to hit after the boom and he really capitalized on a book that's not even all that great. (i own it)

I don't think any list would be complete without Negreanu on it. They guy has done a lot for the game as far as promoting it...and unlike Hellmuth and Lederer he seems to be not quite as interested in making money doing it...maybe he's just not as good a business men as the other two though''

Re(2): Most Admired Pro Poker Player??? Let's concentrate on positives instead of negatives :)
Although many will laugh I'd say Phil Hellmuth for his ability to make so much money on poker related things away from the table...from a business prospective it's pretty amazing...but he has put in a lot of work to get where he is now. Howard Lederer could be put in the same boat...hell he doesnt even play poker anymore and he's making a killing off the game. The woste thing about poker is you have to be working to make money...there is no passive income...but these guys have found ways to get passive income.

Re(4): Full Tilt putting money in your account for WSOP
So if they just put cash in your acct what way does the site know you will really use it for the tournament' I'm not a big satelite fan in the first place and I know if I won a 10k seat to the main event I would probably play a 1500 event then pocket the rest of the cash. For most players winning a 10k seat is the biggest win of there lives...how stupid is it to turn around and spend it on one tournament. I'm thinking the number of players is going to be way down this year if the sites don't buy in the players directly.

I'm also a CFP..taken tax classes, etc etc....but I have a CPA do my taxes. Honestly for the price it's totally worth the feeling of knowing it's done right. You can also cut the costs a little if you have all your info together orginized neatly. I'm glad my CPA doesnt charge me as much as yours does jbay!

Re(9): Poker money for stock market?
Since you are high on education maybe you need to know what a financial planner is before you start talking about them.. You seem to confuse a financial planners job vs a portfolio managers job...they are totally different. / Implementing an investment plan is only a piece of the overall financial plan. You also talk about investing and building a portfolio with stocks as if everyone wants to spend tons of hours researching and educating themselves on everything. If my truck broke down yeah I'm sure i could fix it but I'd rather hire a pro to fix it for me. There are a lot of ...

Re(10): Poker money for stock market?
Index funds are great. And by the way an index fund is a mutaul fund...so you'd say managed fund vs index fund. Most fund managers don't outperform them....but about 30% have over the long term. Also in down years many of the managed funds actually did outperform index funds. So when you look up a fund like Vanguard S&P 500 Index fund you'll find an average performing fund compaired to other funds in the large cap blend category. I use index funds or actually more often Exchange Traded Funds (like index funds but trade like stocks and also have lower expense ratios) in many of my ...

Re(8): Poker money for stock market?
Good post StaggerLee. I didnt feel the need to defend myself from the internet jocky that thinks I'm a bad financial planner because I think it's smart to diversify. When someone says that's not a good idea you know the person doesnt know much about risk management and asset allocation so what's the point. People pay me to help them reach their goals so when I come on here all I'm doing is helping a fellow poker player by pointing them in the right direction and I'm not asking for anything in return...nor would I expect it. I got a degree in financial planning, earned the CFP, and have been ...

Diversified porfolio..yeah...for example my investments for myself and my retirement plans are in a mix of mutual funds. Picking a portfolio of funds has much more to do with it than looking at past performance. As far as where you can find more information that's like asking where can I find more info about poker...it's so open ended and there are so many places to find basic info. If you have specific questions let me know.

Re(5): Gold is sorry
In your post you kind of contradict yourself Hateflops….or maybe you just didn’t think it through. I think you are looking at things in a very naive way. Sure a pure poker player in 1980s or even the 90s doesn’t really give a shit what the public thinks of him because there is no gain in it for them. However today a poker player who’s won some major tournaments can leverage those wins into big sponsorship, endorsements, TV, and book deals. Look at Hellmuth…that dude’s probably made more money away from the tables than on them. Look at Ledderer….or Gordon…same thing. Poker is a business. You ...

Never said anything about Moneymaker being a donk...he is a one hit wonder though. Sure you could name off a ton of other one hit wonders...the examples you used however, are not very good other than Gordon...but even he's made a lot of big final tables. Ledderer has won a ton in the past and now he doesnt even plan anymore. Ferguson...you should check his cardplayer stats...he's had plenty of wins and deep finishes since he won his main event. How come you guys are not defending Varkonyi'

Maybe for a rockbottom price. He's kind of damaged goods now. I think the guys that are in charge of hires at PS know how to research a guys popularity online. But I think time can heal...and if he makes some tv final tables or wins some smaller events then he can make a case. He just needs to play a lot so he can make that happen.
