Fifty50s on Pokerstars
Thanks a lot! I'll try them again and be more aggressive even if I'm not chip leader.

Fifty50s on Pokerstars
I just can't beat them. I used to crush Double-or-Nothings, then they got tougher, then they disappeared. I like Fifty50s because of the low variance but I'm breaking even at them. My cash rate is 55%, so I obviously don't finish first often enough. I remember breaking even over a period of 1,000 or 1,500 $50 DONs, so perhaps I'm just on a break-even stretch since I started them. Obviously they are profitable for some, as the Sharkscope leaderboard demonstrates. Any advice' Obviously I play tight early. I have my stats, so I'm able to fold AQ, AJ, and 99- to someone who raises only 5% ...

FiftyFifty strategy
I haven't played that many yet, maybe 300-400. I play the $20 ones. I used to play $50 double or nothings back in early 2009 when they were soft and I raped them. I just can't seem to beat those $20 FiftyFiftys though. I've gone on losing/break even streaks that lasted more than 300-400 tourneys before in double or nothings so maybe I'm just running bad, but maybe also I have a leak in my game. I suppose that given the higher rake ($0.96 instead of $0.80 for the former double or nothings) Pokerstars calculated that grinders could still make their 3% or 4% ROI in them. I understand that a big ...

FTP New rewards system: Black card..
Here's an idea. I have a friend whose name I won't disclose of course who signed up on FTP without the rakeback. When rush poker began he told FTP he didn't think rush was such a great idea but was willing to invest the time and money if FTP gave him hid damn rakeback already. And they did. Try that. But then don't forget to play a bit of rush poker. ;) As for me it sure looks like I might be going back to FTP if the bonuses are worth it. Am no longer supernova on pokerstars anyway because I switched to MTTs. This S&G grinding might be worth it though, although boring as hell.

mtt bankroll question. opinions welcome
I have a $6,000 bankroll and I don't even play the $55 freezeouts. Depends on the field sizes too. I play a lot of the small field tournaments too, so final tables are a weekly habit for me. Variance is surprisingly low: -$1.7k my worse downswing I think. I have a $6,000 bankroll because I cashout $1,000 a month to pay myself a modest salary. Every other money goes towardfs building my bankroll. When it gets to $10,000 I will add higher stakes tourneys.

are u good enough to win every tourney you play?
Even Tiger Woods doesn't win every major, and there is a lot less luck involved in golf than in poker.

The sickest call I've ever made..
Wow, I was involved in a live cash game hand quite similar. Raised Q8cc pre, guy calls, I have position. Flop is J-T-8. He checks, I check. Turn is a brick. He checks I bet $20 he raises to $60 and it had been a few hands he was pushing me around, so I called hoping to bluff a scary board. River comes a 7 and instead of my plan totally fails when he jams all in (about 2x pot). I tell him out loud that I'm seriously considering calling with only a pair of 8s and that if he has KQ he's a fucking sicko well done. I fold and he shows a Q. The the table went on an eternal debate: did he have Q9 or ...

Okay I'm gonna create a lot of enemies by saying this but whatever. I pity the fools who play live and wear a hoodie, sunglasses and headphones bigger than alien antennas. For God's sake, be original! Y'all look the same!

If poker regulation happens, what are the side effects?
From what the last few replies are saying it sounds as though online poker in the US would be limited to US players. With regulation is there any way for players from different countries to play against each other' I don't think anyone would embrace the idea of limiting your opponents to the residents of your country... Am I missing something here'

Mercier--best nl holdem tourney player in the world?
The guy is a sicko, he's won a WPT title, a WSOP title and now a WCOOP. He makes it look like he doesn't even need to run good at all. All he needs is a good tournament structure. I still don't understand how he manages to actually WIN the tournaments. I mean even solid players can't always actually come out a winner so many times. Maybe the UNiverse intended for some players to be luckier than others... otherwise he's just a beast.

Hate getting 3-bet? Limp.
It is my hope that the next step in the evolution of poker will be a return to small pots preflop. Raising, getting 3-bet and then calling the 3-bet dramatically increases the variance in the game. When that situation happens in mid-tournament, it isn't rare that by the time you see the flop, the amount in the pot is already 20-30% of what's in your stack, or even more sometimes. I just find this pretty f***ing ridiculous and annoying (even when I am the one 3-betting). You basically have to decide if you're gonna bluff at it for all (or almost all) your chips, or wait for another hand, after ...

important for all cdn players
Let's not panic and take a look at the big picture here. Pokerstars and Full Tilt defied the UEIGA so I'm sure they can certainly defy some stupid new Canadian law that probably isn't even enforceable. The small sites don't want to take chances. The big sites are like GM: too big to fail. IMO.

Poker Billionaire
Well if the rich keep getting richer (non-poker people) and some of these guys occasionally enjoy a game of high stakes poker, I can only see the stakes rising even higher than they already are. Don't forget good ol' inflation as well. I wouldn't be surprised if Phil Ivey is pwning CEOs at some ridiculous $5K-$10K NL game some day.

This is a true, hilarious bluff gone wrong that makes for a spectacular story. Limit poker home game. Told to me by a friend... Noob and good player find themselves heads up. Good player has 44. Flop is 9-9-8. Good player leads out, noob calls. Turn is a 2. Good player must find out if noob actually has the 9 or not so he bets again. When noob calls, good player puts noob on JT or a hand like 55 or 66. If the right river hits, good player plans on bluffing out noob. River is an 8. Recap: board is 9-9-8-2-8. Good player bets his 4-high, noob snap calls and flips over his 77 and yells, "I have ...

Petition to Stars for 'Weekly 10k buyin'
Good point. I think at that stage it's almost all pros versus pros. May the best/luckiest once again get richer, while all the others won't be losing money that will put them on the streets. Just an opportunity for them to see if they are the best among the best, and/or can try their luck at yet another huge score.

Better yet, the WSOP should surpass its Main Event marathon and come up with a $25K buy-in that lasts a month. With a mandatory 25% of the field being non-poker celebrities. Starting stacks $100,000, blinds 25/25, 25/50, 50/100, 75/150, 100/200, 150/300, 150/300 with antes, 200/400, etc. With 4-hour levels.

Oh yeah I forgot the most irritating comment I've ever been told. By my ex/now gf again. She's a little anti-money so we try to avoid these conversations. This is an old conversation we had a while back: Me: I had an insanely profitable month. Gf: But that's how they get you. Me: Nobody's getting anyone. Poker sites don't care who wins and who loses. Gf: [thinking she knows what she's talking about] Yes they do. They arrange for you to win at first and then that's how they get you hooked and then you'll start losing. Me: [fuming] No you don't get it. That's what happens sometimes when a ...

My most delicate moment came when my grandmother told me about the gambling problem campaign we have going on here close to home whose motto is "Bet on you". When she said I should "bet on me" instead of playing poker my heart just sank. There was no way I was going to get into an argument with my fragile and good-hearted grandmother so I just told her life was good and I would remember what she said. Ironically, she taught me how to play cards when I was little. :)
