What's your oldest memory?
As "momofdyz" I can attest to his mathematical precociousness at a ridiculously young age. And we could keep no secrets because he was reading at 5 and spelling followed right behind. He learned fractions through food...halves and quarters of sandwiches, eighths of pies, etc. And yeah, the clock thing was really annoying back then...lol

Orlando Trip recommendations?
There's a pub in the British section of Epcot that overlooks the water, has outdoor seating and is perfect for viewing the Illuminations lights, laser and fireworks show that starts at 9:00 each night.

Orlando Trip recommendations?
Just came back from a week in Orlando. Your plan for 5 parks in 4 days is aggressive at best, more likely insane. My 35-year-old daughter and SIL struggled with doing 4 parks in 7 days. The best time to hit the rides is when there are parades or fireworks. Everyone in the park lines the streets and the ride lines dwindle some. The Magic Kingdom's best time was from about 8:30 - 11:00 p.m. when the park closed. Epcot closes at 9:00 most nights and some of the attractions close as early as 6:00. Hollywood Studios closes attractions between 6-7, then most nights has a "Fantasmic" show that ...

Honeymoon in Hawaii
I suggest you check out and go to the Hawaii forums. Pay particular attention to the Kauai and Big Island discussions. I've been to every island, more than once. We love Kauai and there are many lodging choices that will provide privacy yet be close to great restaurants, beaches, recreational activities, etc. You can rent a beach house for $1500 or less a week and have access to the Marriott hotel's amenities. We also love the Big Island - black sand beaches, Volcano National Park, the different climates, the ranches... You can't go wrong with either. I'm not crazy about Oahu except for ...

I need something with no carbs to mix with vodka
Try diet Sprite or Sprite Zero with a twist of lime. My favorite summer drink is mandarin or citron vodka with club soda and a splash of diet sprite. Adding an orange slice is nice, too.

Re:OT Suburbanites to the Rescue: Help this House n00b
Well, your first mistake was putting "Scotchguard" on your lawn...LOL! And those little yellow flowers are probably dandelions. In any case, do the fertilizing yourself. Go to your local nursery and ask questions about the fertilization and weed control program recommended for your area. Then follow the program faithfully for the summer. A nice lawn takes time and work. When late August rolls around, re-evaluate the lawn and determine if you need to use something like Roundup to kill off larger areas then re-seed those areas with grass seed recommended for your region. Your hard ...

Re:Mothers day gift
Most mothers would like: Breakfast in bed on a tray with a rose bud vase. Let the little one "help". A gift certificate for a spa. Flowers. Definitely a card from the 2-year-old and one from you. The day "off" from routine household stuff - that means you do it.

Boobquake Day Today
Enjoy! "It all started when the Iranian media quoted one of the country's Friday prayer leaders: "Many women who do not dress modestly ... lead young men astray, corrupt their chastity and spread adultery in society, which (consequently) increases earthquakes" -- that, according an English translation of Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi's remarks. When Jen McCreight heard Sedighi’s claim, she decided to organize an experiment. The self-described “liberal, geeky, nerdy, scientific, perverted atheist feminist” from Indiana opened a Boobquake Facebook page, requesting women ...

Re:So I've never been to a wedding
Dress nicely. Be on time. Have fun at the reception but be a gentleman. FInd out if your friend and fiancee have a bridal registry, either online or a department store. If so, you can pick a gift from the list - makes shopping much easier.

Re:Mom's of OT, I need your help
This! You might be able to get away with a cleaning service once every two weeks, but definitely do it. I'm a mom of four (now grown) and I assure you that I would have appreciated a cleaning service when my kids were young.

Re:Kansas City n00b
Ameristar Casino is the biggest and has several restaurants including an Arthur Bryants BBQ, a very good steakhouse and a place named Pearls that has fabulous New Orleans-style cuisine. The Power and Light District downtown is very "happening", especially on weekends and during events at the Sprint Center. During the summer there are lots of free concerts. The Plaza is an upscale shopping and dining area that is known for its Christmas lights display from Thanksgiving until mid-January. Some of KC's finest restaurants are in this area. The Thursday edition of the Kansas City ...

Re:Las Vegas Hotels
Just spent 4 nights in Treasure Island. It was nice, the Cirque show was very good, and the location is very convenient. I've stayed at TheHotel at Mandalay Bay, Bellagio, MGM and Mirage. All are very nice, TheHotel was pretty "hip" but is not centrally located. Join the Players Clubs online and you'll start getting emails with some special pricing offers. The pool at TI was a fun spot and seemed to cater to a young crowd.

Re:unemployment laws ?(NOT political)
She has proof that she didn't leave voluntarily, and she will likely win her case. As long as her doctor cleared her to work, the employer should keep her on the schedule. Keep the text messages and any other correspondence from the employer as it is invaluable in proving her case. If her company typically provides short term disability or other "leave" coverage for illnesses, they must do so for her maternity leave. They cannot treat her any different than they would treat someone who had a heart attack or who was undergoing cancer treatment. It is the law.

Re:Flying to Hawaii
I have been to Hawaii at least 4 times, and it has never been cheaper or easier to fly to Honolulu and book a separate flight to whichever island... and I've flown from Boston and Kansas City. And you'll have the hassle of claiming your luggage and then getting it to your inter-island airline, which means inspections and other security hassles. I recommend you check a travel search engine site like expedia, sidestep or orbitz to see which airline has the cheapest flights from your airport (I see you're in VT...so MHT or BOS'). Check daily for about two weeks and pay attention to ...

Re:All-Inclusive Resorts....
Just did a cruise to the Caribbean in January. I think an all-inclusive would be much better for a vacation. Here's a link to a cruise review that I think would apply to any cruise that goes to locations where poverty is prevalent: I realize that there is poverty in this world, and we generously donate to lots of charities. But when I am on vacation, I don't want to be approached by "beggars". I think the all-inclusive resorts prevent this.
