Re(4): chessmasters, and poker players....does anyone play chess anymore? Im a International master in chess and a lot of strong chess players shift to poker. Lately GM Wahls, Germanyīs strongest chess player quit chess to mainly focus on poker. Chess is simply too tough to make a livin on. You have to be top 20 in the world to make a good livin at chess. Re(3): Poker drying up Well, no one thought it would happen to chess but it did and I am quite sure it will happen to poker too in maybe 10-20 years with the help of the developements within A.I and neural networks but until then the party goes on. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): Poker drying up Im more worried about computers getting too good (like in chess) which would kill online poker than poker actually drying up. To me poker is the perfect game for the internet generation. M Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(2): Good players vs. bad players???? Rereading the scenario I must say the biggest mistake from player A is to flat call the re-raise pre-flop. I would re-raise something like 15xBB just to define my hand and cut the field down to two players or just take the pot there. The flop really looks fine for AA and the only thing I would consider is the flush draw and of course i would hope for KK or QQ. I think the pot bet is ok on the flop but on the turn he/she should have folded (101010 would be my guess) unless he has a good read on you based on previous play. Having said that I know for myself how many times I have paid for my ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(2): Good players vs. bad players???? Agree, Surely the trips are the true moneymakers in cash ring games where implied pot odds and making someone tilt is good play especially against the abc-poker player. Low disguised trips pay off very well in those cases. A good player would probably fold on turn but it would surely depend on player image, earlier hands etc as a loose player could go all-in with jj-kk. BTW nice play! M Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(2): Pretty good article, I am co star Backgammon is more about probablities as you play with two dices and bulding connected stacks of checkers in your so called "home area". Also you often play with money and you have the possibility to double if you think your chances are better than your opponent. So in that sense backgammon is closer to poker than chess although both games favor analytical skills well suited for poker. M Ps. I think Gus was backgammon pro before he went into poker... Re(1): For those who make a living at poker... For me it was easy since I have played chess regularly in 25 years and as there is almost impossible to make a decent living out of chess unless you are top-100 in the world the poker boom really came as a rescue for me. To me the most important thing is to have an enormous inner drive to be best,...During my years as a chess player I developed an enormous self control and discipline to do what it takes to win, meaning that I am sickly objective about my own play. Every day is a new learning day! I am not saying that I have any truths about anything that is related to poker as I am just a ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

The other day I read a little in Masons "Gambling Theory" I think the title was...In the book different examples showed how cruel the standard deviation can be explaining why a great player like Brunson could have a losing year!! The book also gave me an unpleasant feeling that itīs not even sure that I am a winning player although I have had very good first year...In the book the estimated time needed to be certain that you are a winning player over a specific limit at a given standard deviation was in most examples more than year...But at the same time, thank God ... Re(1): Building a Bank Roll Hereīs my strategy and it has worked well for me so far although iīm a "newbie" compared to most of the guys at this site. Play cash games and always stop if you have lost 5-10% of your bank-roll during one session. Donīt play longer sessions than 3-4 hours as your concentration will drop. I think this might be a problem for a lot of players. Do never never play to win back lost money!! Some of my cash games winnings i use for buy-ins in multi-tournaments which is like a bonus for me. This makes me playing tourneys without feeling any pressure - itīs just great fun!! Good luck! Monzo Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Computers and poker Hi all! Being a chess player following the latest developement of computers in chess (today they are at least equal with the best chess players in the world) i wonder what you think of the same thing happening in poker' Of course, and thank god for that, poker is a quite different game compared to chess. In chess 100% of the information is processed while in poker you will have to live with a substantiate lack of information, but still, further developement within A.I may overcome some of these problems. However, in chess a new type of competitive arena has grown up due to the developements ... Posted in: Off Topic |

when to get loose in a MTT? Hi all! Iīm new member to this excellent site so i would like to start giving some cred to Adam, Cal and Riley - you are really doin a great job! Playing more multis these days i would like to get some feed back from you guys that with ease seem to accumulate chips on your way to the final table, almost every time you play. My problem is that i am often short stacked entering the final table probably due to playing too tight at some or several points of a tourney. At what point do you feel it is critical to accumulate chips'' Of course this is depending your own stack, playing style etc but ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |
