Higher buy ins make no difference Nothing makes me more mad. You know damn well they put all their chips in hoping for the miracle flush, and you know the turd is laughing at you behind the security of 1000s of miles and a puter screen. I can honestly say that I rarely see this kind of idiotic flush chasing, especially with a high card as low as 10 in live play. You'd be laughed out of the cardromm if you miss. I suppose its just a factor of internet play that makes me break things around the house. Posted in: Bad Beats |

Higher buy ins make no difference I won a few dollars today on Paradise, so I decided to move up a few dollars and entered the $100 Playa tourney. 2nd hand i get KK on the button, lots of limpers and i raise to 150, to get rid of the rag merchants. 1 caller and the flop gives me a set of kings, with 2 clubs being the other 2 cards. Im first to act, and dont want the caller to draw at the flush so I bet 500 (was this enough'')he re reaises all in and im happy to call, if hes chasing the flush, well, good luck to him. Of course he hits the flush and leaves me with 200 chips very early on. Firstly, I would have thought that ... Posted in: Bad Beats |

It made me weep! Recent live MTT tourney in Belfast, 1 st place is a ticket into the Cavendish Classic, a £1650 entry tournament with £100,000 guaranteed first prize. Final table, 3 left, Im chip leader, couldnt be better. O the button, I get KK, blinds are 5k, 10k, I really want my bet to look like a steal so I raise to 80K. The sb folds but the BB calls like a shot. The flop comes K55. Wonderful, I check, hoping hes called with A5 which he has been all night. He moves allin, I have him covered by about 25k and slide my stack across the line with a look of glee on my face. He turns A2. I could smell the ... Posted in: Bad Beats |

Tournament Strategy... I have some simple rules I will generally follow. 1. In the first hour, very tight, too many lunatics and weak players to try anything elaborate. 2. Hopefully after at leasdt doubling up in the first hour, I open my hand selection a little further. 3. I constantly make notes on players, who will call' who will fold' who will just keep calling reagrdless' who can I bluff' 4. Once you have this information(providing you dont get moved too often)you should really be changing gears and picking your clients. 5. When you get close to the bubble, providing you have a good stack, its blind stealing ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Sick -- What you guys think .. Just another example of how people seriously over rate AK as serious raise calling hand. I dont think you could have played the hand any differently, I amongst many others would have done exactly the same. Its sickening when the ace falls, you just know its coming. I find it bizzarre the way someone would risk almost there whole stack so close to the money, on what is essentially an unmade hand preflop. On the other hand, when the KK does hold up, he'll be cursing overplaying AK for a lot of money. Just a shame it always seems to be my undoing too. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

How bad of a play is this by me? In Limit play, its only the extra bet for you to call, and see three cards. I suppose you could have expected some berating if you hadnt hit your hand so well on the flop, and chased some silly small pair or flush to the river, but you flopped a monster. Q/ And why call with 7,4'' A/ To trap a big hand with an innocuos looking set, 2 pr, str8 or, in this case a full house they will never expect you to have. Nice play Posted in: Poker Discussion |

ONLINE poker question... And remember, some players deem hands like AQ and even AJ (heaven knows why) to be suitable re raising hands. He may have put you on a low pocket pair with such a raise, in which case, if he does have AQ AJ then you're more of a favourite Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Should I just let them draw to it? Well, just busted out in 4th of a $20 sng with exactly the same scenario. Im on button with Ah 9h raise, 1 caller, flop A96 rainbow. I push allin, he calls with 8,10 and the turn is a 7. Ho hum, just happens every time. The amount of time Ive lost to poxy straights with 2pair is unreal f Paradise f Chase monkeys Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Should I just let them draw to it? Pretty much what I actually thought to be honest, Ive always made the point of anyone chasing a draw is going to pay for it. If they miss, well, more chips for me, its just been recently, Ive wasted a ton of chips on trying to make them pay, only to lose the hand because they just wont fold. Maybe Im just running into a lot of loose draw chasers lately. I know its the right way to play, and is annoying when consistently, i'm being outdrawn, despite making all the right moves. Thanks for the advice as usual guys Posted in: Poker Discussion |

What to do in a bad run? Thanks for the support guys but after today, Ive decided that Im through with online poker. Im not going to say anything about the sites I play on, or their RNG's because thats just pointless, its the endless stream of idiots that think they are Gus Hansen. I admire Hansens play, he makes calculated calls and plays the player as oppose to the cards and has 3 WPT titles to prove hes no fluke. What pisses me off is the dumbass calls for whole stacks with junk, and catching....thats NOT a calculated call, its stupid. I dont want to hear about'play a solid game and you will win in the end' ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

How tough are the higher sit n go's? After some nice success yesterday and today, I thought Id treat myself to a $100 sng on Paradise, thinking the play would be better. What a mistake. After 4 hands, one player had called evryones raises with junk, I mean J3os, 94 etc etc and sucking out twopairs or 4 card straights. Now Im all for calling suited connectors to make an innocuous looking hand and break my opponent, but theres a difference to this kind of junk. He was even calling allins with 10,4 and hitting trips. I know we all have a style etc, but Im shocked at the level of play at this table. I eventually went out after ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Have you won a tournament w/o stealing? This may sound a little mad, but I love the UTG raise. Its rare to do it so close to the money, makes everyone think you MUST have a big hand to be raising from there. Its amazing the amount of times an UTG raise makes everyone fold. Plus it doesnt look like youre trying to steal by waiting to see what everyone else does. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

late in tournies The point you make about getting into the money is a good one. Regardless of the hand youre mentioning above I too try to make it into the money with a fighing chance of finishing in the top 4. Unfortunatley, this type of aggression just before the bubble will bust me out of more tournaments than usual, but when I do get in, Im in very good shape. With KK before the flop, and a reraise, Id push in as well. My sentiments exactly on the KK vs A anything, painful when the ace catches, but the rewards are better when it holds Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Early tourny all-ins... I put a note next to my screen, reminding me not to overplay AK. Its helped, but unfortunatley people do see it as a monster starting hand and must be played no matter how big the raise. I posted a thread on another forum called. 'AK--Monster or stack wrecker'' and the replies helped a lot. Personally I think its a good hand for coming over the top of limpers, and is certainly a big hand late on in a tourney, but early on, I tend to try and steer well clear, especially of a 4 or 5 times the bb raise. Looking at my hand history, Ive established the following if u have AK vs QQ you lose if u ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Stomaching fluctuations... If what you say is true, then youre doing something right, thats for sure. Most good runs dont last too long, and sometimes you just end up breaking even at the end of a week. There are times when you can do no wrong, and the world is great, but there are the most hateful of times when nothing, absolutley nothing goes well. Maybe its just me, but I can feel it coming, whether its what you did the day before, your frame of mind etc etc. A lot of people will sit and play for playings sake, and generally dont do very well. I am now trying to limit the amount of tourneys I play, and really ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Pot odds and Implied odds Im posting this as a remark made when someone says 'pot odds' before calling. I suppose it depends whether were talking about tournies or ring games. I dont play ring games, so Ill give you my opinion on tourneys. Personally I detest the call from a bigger stack with nothing. Ive talked about this before in another forum, I deem it as an excuse to make a bad call. Why call, knowing full well you are way behind' How many times have you seen a short stack double through, only to become a danger and finish in the money. Its not my thing to double someone up with a lame, poor call with 85 os for ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Late Tourney Question 10 10 is a good hand this late on, but what Ive learned is how people overplay AK, AQ, even AJ at any stage of a tourney. It was a very loose reraise from the guy, he may have been trying it on, and really he should have folded to your re re raise with AQ. He was probably finiding out if you had a genuine hand. When he calls, its a coin toss with 2 overcards. Personally, Im not sure what Id have done, muck the tens and live to fight another day, or see the flop for more than half my stack to see if you could catch a set. Once you do that though, you feel pot committed and end up going the ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Playing against an inexperienced field Check raising is a good strategy with novices, firstly it gives them a chance to bet that A6 os ot that pair of 2s they just wont fold, and then gives you the chance to get the resy of their money. What I find is a better play though, is if a novice brings it in for a raise preflop, and you call and hit a set, str8, etc etc, then my advice would be to bet right into them (if you are first to act) This shocks them into thinking, huh, my 2s are still good because I cant see what he could have made, and you'll still get the rest of their chips. But the other 2 posts are absoultely correct, never ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Is Pokertracker a good investment? Absolutely. I cant speak about other pokertracking softwares, but pokertracker has been good for me. I downloaded the free trial at first, and it does take some getting used to, but is a very powerful tool once you get the hang of it. I used to play exclusively elsewhere, but suspected something was wrong during large tournament play. I couldnt put my finger on it, and then started to use pokertracker. What the information very clearly pointed out to me, is that any short stack on a table was dealt a big hand, AA, KK, AK etc, and felt compelled to go allin (why wouldnt you). Another ... Keep running into AA Not sure whether this should be on the bad beat section, but its not really a bad beat story. I played 2 tourneys today on Paradise, Reef as normal, and the $20,000. In both tourneys I made the money, but the really frustrating thing is, that I get anted down from a good stack, usually 1st 2nd or 3rd, down to nearly last. Sometimes I know you just get handcuffed and cant raise or call. Then.....the inevitable, you get a hand, and theres nothing else for it but the allin coup, you know your chips are going in the middle so they might as well all go. In Reef, i was dealt KK, and in the $20,000 ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

What to do in a bad run? As most players will have experienced, Im having a bad run, lasting a couple of months now. I normally play on Paradise, and have done OK in the R&A's and the $50,000 in the past. But I just seem to be having the worst run ever, Ive had them before, but they generally burn themselves out after a couple of weeks or so. Ive dropped my limits, and am now only playing $10 & $20 sngs to try and rebuild my bankroll, but this seems to have made things worse with the terrible play at these tables. I think we all agree, its harder to play against poor players who just have to call an 8 times the BB ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Should I just let them draw to it? Im reffering here to the increasing numbers of internet players, who, for some reason, are prepared to risk their whole stack on a straight or flush draw. I rarely slow play anything, unless I flop the absolute nuts and I cant be beat regardless of the turn and river....rare situation, so Ill always come out firing, even when I make my hand on the flop. For example, I have AK, make a sturdy raise, 1 caller who I know to be a fish, a serial caller and rag merchant. The flop comes A7K. Im elated, and make another big raise, I want some value here, I want him to have A7, which I know he'll play. ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |
