I think the worst my bell has been rung was playing tackle football in a vacant lot with my friends. You're right, they won't hit with their heads, but they will sling each other down. I don't know how many times the back of my head got whiplashed into the ground. Worse than helmet to helmet collisions IMO.

Admittedly we were a Class 3 school (out of 6 in Illinois at the time). I played corner and tailback. Being really fast and really fearless/stupid got me on the field. I don't know how I feel about my son playing. All he wants to do right now is tackle stuff. Still have a few years before he would start, so we'll see what is known by then I guess.

So what do you parents think about your sons playing football' I played through high school and was only 5' 6" 135 lbs as a senior and started on offense and defense. I have a four year old who isn't blessed with great genetics as far as size is concerned. Looking back I'm sure a had a few concussions. I always assumed when I had a son, if he was so inclined, he would play too. Over the last few years my mind is starting to change. I love football and I learned a lot from it but I don't know if the risks are worth it anymore.

2012 Marathon/Half/10K/5K Race training thread
Running my first 5k of the year on the 19th. Timed one yesterday on my Nike ap and came in at 24:26. Hoping to go under 23. 24:34 was my best last year so I'm ahead of the game.

What percentage of your monthly gross income do you pay for your mortgage?
At 23% for the whole escrow. 16% just for the mortgage. Well under twice our annual income. Living under your means causes a lot less stress and allows for a lot of fun stuff while padding your pockets.

I would trust a pit way before I would have a cocker spaniel. Every one I've ever known has been quick to bite/snap. They are loyal, I'll give them that. To a fault I would say.

How many games before you could score in a pro sport?
I went to the same high school as Kirk Rueter in a small town in Southern Illinois. He would come back and train before spring training at the school and we all got to take batting practice against him. A few of us slapped a few for hits as he was taking it easy on us. Our best hitter gets up and launches one over the fence. After that I'm pretty sure nobody even came close to fouling a ball off.

Would you let your kids get a tattoo or face piercing?
Ya the septum is pretty bad. Small stud on the side of the nose isn't so bad. Also piercings aren't permanent like a tattoo.
