Re:First live tournament... advice? From mig's well Re:The Well: In reply to By on 12-23-2008 4:11 PM Get warmed up playing some cash games online. Live tournament are really very similar to online, tells are generally pretty overrated. So just make sure you work on your deepstack play since you will be deeper at pca than you will in most online tourneys. And just stay relaxed and have a good time, you will play better. My own advice (combined with mig's landed me 13th in the pca main event (brag!)): -try to relate the level you are at with the corresponding stage of an online tourney--6 hours in you'll feel ... Stars connectivity problem wins me a PCA seat Even though I've had some mild tournament success as of late (given my small volume), I couldn't get over the hump--either getting sucked out on or losing a race late in the tourney to keep me out of the big big money. I wondered a lot what it would take for me to finally get over the hump. Last Tuesday I decided to enter a 33r PCA super turbo sat. I built a decent stack by the end of the rebuy hour, and had about 180K (only 9bbs but above average at that stage in the tourney). I woke up with 99 in mid position, the easiest shove for anyone who has ever played any of these. ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Took a shot...final tabled the Super Tuesday on my first try That was dirty, but it was button on blind and I still had decent chips if i lost. Think I probably should have flatted your reraise preflop and gone with the flop. Took a shot...final tabled the Super Tuesday on my first try I've been running pretty hot recently in my regular limit games (+20K this month) and the million (3 cashes in the past 4), so I stupidly decided to take a shot and bought in direct into the Super Tuesday. Ran hot early, with one big ak v kk suckout, and had the chiplead when we went into the money. Lost a couple races, got pretty card dead, and was one of the shorter stacks when I busted eighth. Tried to steal, both of us flopped huge, and lost. The 10K is a huge boost to my bankroll though and also a huge boost to my confidence. Definitely not playing this thing without satting in any ... Re(1): Annette Bustout hand Here's my question with your reasoning Annette. He calls the first and second barrels with AJ on an A K X X board. Are you saying that he folds the river to any non-jack (maybe he calls if an ace rivers as well), when you shove' The only thing I don't understand about this reasoning is that the only hand where he would have "rivered" you is AQ. He's still behind AA, AK, KK, or any other set even when he rivers his 2 pair. The only hand he moves ahead of you with from the turn to the river is if you have AQ. Doesn't he have to put you on exactly AQ if the river card changed his mind about ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Live Limit Holdem Anyone who plays limit live have any thoughts on what limits a 5-10 to 15-30 limit player should play at a casino. I'd assume the casino play is much worse than online. Is 10-20 live the equivalent to 5-10 online or is it even worse than that' I'm headed to the Borgata tomorrow and could use some advice. Or hopefully I'll sat in the Main Event and not have to play any limit at all..... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(2): ITM in the million Hey man. I guess it was a bad call on my part, even though I did get it in ahead. I had about 70-80K at the time, raised to 6500, you pushed for 16K more, psycho guy from the BB calls for 4K. So I'm getting a decent price and felt like gambling. And I was ahead. May not be a great long term play I guess given your range, but I felt like you were an aggressive player who was looking to take advantage of the bubble, and I had the chips to make a -EV call. I think it was the only time at the table with you I got out of line, I was playing about 15% of my hands and had only shown down premium ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(2): ITM in the million Agreed that the preflop call is brutal. On the flop I have 6 outs to the nuts and 2 which im pretty sure are the nuts (doubtful he is on the flush draw). On the turn I pick up the diamond draw to go with the open ender, giving me 16 outs to what I'm pretty sure is a lock hand. Should I really fold at this point. I think the best option given how bad I played the hand to this point is to call the turn, knowing he is calling any shove if I get there on the river. Again, I know I should have mucked pre, but as played, what is best option on the flop/turn Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Max rake to be a decent winner at sit and go I was just at foxwoods this past weekend and, instead of playing cash, decided to play in their 100+20 sit and goes. These games play worse than any 10+1 online sit and go. At pretty much every table, 3 people have no clue how to play poker, 4-5 would be losing players online, and 2-3 would be break even or better. The problem is that the rake is over twice the online rake. Is it possible to play these games profitably over the long term, or is the rake to big to overcome' Anyone out there play these games professionally or semi professionally' Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(2): When to open shove..... Thanks for the response. I wasnt shoving any flop, but with that flop I wanted to take down the pot or put 88-JJ to a pretty tough decision. If I bet 3.5K, I've only got 4K behind (5BBs) and since I was in early position, I had the blinds coming up. I guess I could have checked behind the flop, but an ace came on the turn and then I could get moved off the hand by anything. Posted in: Poker Discussion |
