Re(1): AK play I too initially thought that a 7.5x bb open-raise showed weakness, until I realized that the antes are extremely high in this structure. With 1600 in the pot before it is opened, this is more like a 500/1000, no-ante structure. A 3K open-raise, therefore, is more like a 3x bb raise in a no-ante game and is not an unreasonable over-bet. Weighing the options: 1. You will lose half your stack 2/3 of the time if you simply call pre-flop and fold to a bet on a missed flop. If he holds an A or a K, you will miss the flop MORE than 2/3 of the time. If you hit the flop, you may not get paid off on ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(2): OMFG OK, so my response was sarcastic and therefore immature, but... It WAS an easy play. Seriously, sucker, some of your posts are of the "look at me" variety, particularly those where you post your bad beats or playing schedule on the main board. I apologize for my response. Just wish you could filter some of your posts to get to the good ones. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): What's the best way to build a bankroll online? Interesting that nobody ever mentions the "skill" games, stud or omaha, which is where I built my bank. I could give every donkey and his brother a NLHE starting hand chart and teach them how to play decently in about 30 minutes. If you learn to play a tight game of stud h/l or omaha h/l, however, you will never, ever go broke at the lower limits. Low-limit cash games and heads-up sngs are pure profit. Re(1): What are the best/ur fav. announcing teams? Individuals: Basketball - Play by play - Marv (was especially good when paired with Mike "The Czar of the Telestrator" Fratello) Basketball - Analyst - Hubie Brown. My favorite on-air guy in any sport. This guy is amazing. The fact that he COACHED the Grizzlies at age 70 defies description. Tennis - John McEnroe Golf - Gary McCord Baseball - So many great ones. I will go with Scully. Announcing teams: Football - Madden and Summerall in their prime Baseball - Miller and Morgan. (Joe Morgan may be so-so, but it's tough to tell, 'cause Miller is so good.) Re(1): Has anyone ever dominated their sport like Federer? Tough to compare the team sports guys to the individual sports guys. Assume that dominance in the individual arena means that the FIELD has, say, a 10% chance of beating the champion over a period of many years. By that measure, Tiger does not qualify. I'll throw some weird ones out there: Drag racing - John Force (13 consecutive funny car championships) Skiing - Ingemar Stenmark (Stenmark won every giant slalom race during the 1977/1978 (7 for 7) and 1978/1979 seasons (10 for 10). In the 1979/1980 season he won 10 out of 11 giant slaloms. He has 6 of the top 10 most successful seasons ever ... Posted in: Off Topic |

Re(1): Office pranks that will make you the talk of the office. Once changed the background and foreground colors of an officemate's computer to black. He couldn't see a damned thing when he turned on his machine. Had to call tech. support to fix it. Twice. Someone once taped clear tape over the mouthpiece of my office phone. Anyone who called me could not hear my voice and hung up. THAT was annoying. Posted in: Off Topic |

Re(8): No SportsBetting Tax? Not the expert here. I have never claimed deductions such as laptop purchases, but I know that, as of last year, such deductions were available. Nat is the resident accountant around here. He would probably know. There was also a thread recently (within the last 2 weeks) that contained a very good link to tax information. Try searching for it. Posted in: Off Topic |

Re(6): sorry for 2 threads in a day but... AARONBEEN IS A MACHINE! If it were me, I would have folded to ape's bb and let ape do the dirty work. Seriously, though... Interesting response. I kick myself for hands like this, when my stack is so big relative to the blinds. Considering we know that 1) he had been raising the cut-off inordinately often, and 2) your image was tight, and 3) your stacks were deep, would it have made sense to play a smaller pot from the start here' In other words, would you have considered a flat call in position PF, and tried to out-play him post' Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(4): sorry for 2 threads in a day but... AARONBEEN IS A MACHINE! Love your hand histories and analyses in general, Jeff, but this one I need to ask about... A re-raise to 10x bbs would indicate to the original raiser that you are the one who is weak and does not want a call and would prefer to take this pot down PF, no' Does this not scream Ax or middle pair to him' In the end, you spent a stack of 85x bbs on a semi-bluff. I have done the same, of course, but is there not an easier spot' Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(6): No SportsBetting Tax? My recommendation in general is not to f with the IRS; they put Pete Rose away for failing to declare something on the order of $4K in winnings at the horse track. You will sleep better if you pay your taxes. In answer to poe's question, I would suggest you search on taxes here at P5. There were some good threads about it recently. If you keep accurate records, you can subtract gambling losses from gambling wins when declaring gambling income. You also can claim deductions for expenses such as laptop purchases (for online gambling) and travel to casinos. Posted in: Off Topic |

Re(1): I don't ski, but damn Yeah, for more of the "do not try this at home" variety, I strongly recommend Warren Miller's latest ski movie: "Higher Ground." The sickest segement in this movie actually has nothing to do with skiing; some guy in a "squirrel suit" goes terrain surfing. Basically, this entails him jumping out of a helicopter wearing nothing more than some fancy suit he has designed that supposedly allows him to fly around like a bird. If only I could be the beneficiary of his life insurance... Posted in: Off Topic |
