Pathetic Numbers for Phone March I just finished my call (took a grand total of 3 minutes and 14 seconds). Although I'm from NC (not exactly a big gambling state) the staffer who answered my call said that he had received 13 calls today ----- 13 -------- (although there are 2 other people answering the phones in Sen. Dole's office and that doesn't include their numbers). I was expecting a MUCH bigger turnout for this. Guess nobody from the south actually cares about big brother infringing on our rights. We have 2 hours left to make this call. Get your friends, family members, grandmother and ex-girlfriends to call NOW ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(2): REMINDER - PHONE MARCH TODAY!!! While I have not taken the time to read the actual bill, I will definately be calling tomorrow to urge my Senators from the great state of North Carolina to vote against the bill. In my former life (before I started playing for a living) I was a political consultant/fundraiser and worked for a lobby group in DC. I can tell you from a firsthand point of view that there is nothing scarier to a guy who is up for re-election than hearing from about a million of his voters that they are against a bill he is thinking about voting for. PLEASE call today. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): The raise adjusted accordingly Although I always have a standard opening raise (same amount every time at each blind level) I actually like to raise less in relation to the blinds as a tourny progresses. For example, using your situation my standard opening raise in 800/1600 is 4135. At 1000/2000 it's 5195. I have found that this has been a fairly effective strategy for me because as the blinds climb, the smaller raise is still usually a fairly significant amount of your opponent's chip stacks. Also, by using the same opening raise every time (unless I have specific notes or "feel" for a particular player left to act ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(10): i love phil hellmuth shipit....see my above post....and the fact that he's consistantly made FT's over a number of years in some of the biggest tournaments out there means he must be pretty doggone decent....quit hating on him. and why i'm even bothering to reply to this thread again is more of my dedication to the ub website than phil. personally i feel hellmuth is one of (if not the) best poker players out there and i love ub, therefore, i'll defend it and (almost) anyone associated with it....thank you for your attention. Re(1): When do you give up on a dream? About 5 1/2 years ago (at the age of 24), i quit my real job and chased the dream of playing poker for a living. However, I only did this after making more money playing poker over the course of a year than I was earning working a "real" job. Since then I've been rich and I've been broke and I've been rich.....but I've never had to work a real job again. Am I living the dream' I'd say yup. I'd also say you better be prepared for the bad times as well as the good. Be prepared for the bad runs, be ready to stay up all night playing low-stakes poker just trying to turn a small profit, be ready ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): Netteler A few questions- kinda long I've been using neteller since paypal quit accepting transactions from "gambling" sites about 3-4 years ago. Have never had a problem with neteller but if i were to, they have 24 hour customer service. Also, I have never had to pay a fee to deposit or withdraw. When you deposit to a site from your neteller account, the money shows up instantly. The cash out time (how long it takes for money to get into your neteller account from the poker site) varies from site-to-site, but generally it ranges from a few hours to a day or two. To get money from neteller into your bank account, you should ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): BODOG cashouts - how long? I use neteller (if you don't have neteller I highly recommend it) and so far bo has one of the fastest payouts i've found. Usually the money is in my neteller account in just a few hours - don't think it's ever taken more than a day. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): o8b question I think the better question is why did he limp into a pot in the SB when everyone had folded around to him when he obviously didn't have a hand that he wanted action on before the flop' Raise or fold pre-flop and you don't encounter this problem. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): Tax Question Although I am NOT an accountant, nor do I claim to know the actual laws, I've played for a living for the last 5 years and have not (yet') gotten in trouble with the IRS. I run all of my money through neteller and my local bank. I also keep written notes of each session and print statements from both neteller and my bank. The net profit is what I report. I pay my taxes on my winnings, and so far the IRS has been happy. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): Limping in an unopened pot on the button? I like to limp-open on the button occasionally...it does 2 things for you - 1) sets you up for the delayed steal and 2) mixes up your game...having said that - if somebody limp opens and i'm one of the blinds, i'm either gonna raise the pot preflop or lead on the flop 8 outta 10 times Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): Alcohol / Drugs while playing >>> Discuss I've said it 100 times before, but i'll post it here too...I play my best poker live/online/sng/tourny/cash game - you name it - i play my best poker with a buzz. 8-10 beers throughout a tourny usually equals a profitable night. Although if you cross the line from good buzz to wasted it can turn a good night into a REALLY bad day, especially online where all you have to do is click a few buttons to reload.
