I think it's natural for a country to be pessimistic about their own chances. Regarding the ox, he typically played on the left because theo was often on the right, although he can play on the right just as easily. He played from central attacking midfield vs Milan in the champions leage though, and had his best game of the season. Kids fearless, isn't afraid to go at anyone, or have a shot from anywhere. Love him as a player, definitely a future star

I feel inspired to list there here as well, but we've been getting this delicious 'orange peach mango' juice for a while now... and I just saw yesterday that it actually has more calories per 12oz than a can of coke does. Deceptive juice! Will continue to drink.

Not going to quote your entire post, but, agree with most of it -- If I were rooting for England I'd have much rather seen Crouch up front as the target man than Carroll. We're talking about a guy that has had half a season of quality play in his career and is likely to lead the line for a few games in one of the worlds most prestigious tournaments. Say what you will about Crouch, he will always cause difficulties in the air, and is capable on the ground -- he scores goals, he's got 22 in 42 games for England which is a quality record. Wife and I eat Five Guys every week or two... so ridiculously good... probably because of the pound of salt and grease In a sort of related note, I posted this a while ago in the 'OT dumping ground' thread but thought it was worth reiterating that the Kirkland Super Premium ice cream found at Coscto is possibly the greatest ice cream ever made. edit* ok, perhaps the greatest vanilla* ice cream... either way, its stupendous.

You should be, but all of these teams are good, efficient units to have even qualified. Ukraine are still Ukraine, but with home field advantage I could see them getting a few results. The US took points from England in south africa, and I'm not convinced that England is better now, especially without Rooney.

They have ridiculous talent all over the field, but having a proven goal scorer at the international level is a huge advantage. When healthy, villa is a class above the other options.

Germany are my pick, more stable than Spain right now at the back -- and without villa, Spain don't have a top class striker. Still endless talent, but villa will be a big miss. Also agree that France could be in store for a big bounce back from their WC2010 performance, they've got a lot of creativity and goals in their squad. Doubt England makes it out of the group, they just aren't good enough.

Battlestar Galactica is actually really, really good. I always assumed that Battlestar Galactica was similar to shows like Stargate, Babylon 5, Star Trek, etc., that I had never had an interest in. But, upon recommendation I started watching and quickly became hooked on BSG -- its a phenomenal show all the way around. It's all on Netflix instant, as are all 8 seasons of 24, all of Lost, etc.

Firefly is a good suggestion as well. I think to be considered for this thread, a show must not have finished naturally. While I loved the Sopranos, Lost, The Wire, etc., they all had good endings. Arrested Development going off the air was tragic, I feel like I let myself and others down by not watching weekly when it was on TV.

From everything I've read, it sounds like United are going to have a decisive advantage once FFP comes into effect, as they've got the most revenue coming in from sponsorship deals, foreign tours, match day revenue, etc. Arsenal are doing pretty well too, but they won't be able to touch United at least until some of their Emirates sponsorship deals have expired. I could be wrong too, as I haven't looked too much into detail about it -- but I think City and Chelsea may actually have a shot to comply with FFP -- which indicates to me that they should probably fix it :P

There are plenty of teams around England that would love to sign him, and he's certainly not the be all, end all of transfers. I was just using it as an example that they're not content to rest on their past accomplishments, and they're going to continue to spend to strengthen the squad. I think they realize they probably just got the last hurrah out of this bunch of players, and reinforcements are certainly needed. They'll need help up top, in the midfield, and at the back.

Hate to say I think you're way off here. I doubt they're going to retain RDM as manager, and the new appointment will most likely get a pretty solid war chest to spend. There already rumored to be in for Eden Hazard with a €200K/week deal and a hefty transfer fee.

Chelsea were just destined to win, I don't think there is any other way to put it... Not a fan of their style of play, but if it yields results -- all power to them. They kinda remind me of the Greece side in Euro 2004. They weren't pretty, but, they locked it up at the back and counter attacked with a vengeance. If you look back at their run to the final, its truly remarkable what they pulled out of their ass. Bayern have an entire team full of Germans and they have their lone Dutchman take the penalty in extra time. Come on now! Also, lol @ spurs fans!
