I have had this same issue downloading Stars updates with my cable modem connection going back about a year or so. Playing on cable is no problem, and most other downloads from other sites are not a problem, but the last Bodog update would not connect on the cable modem either. I just switch over to the DSL when I need to do an update and it has never failed.

I feel your pain. Back in 2005 and early 2006 I made a killing on the $36+3 satellites to the Sunday tournament now called the Sunday Million. The other popular satellites were $3r and $11r and they were quite profitable too. That was actually a problem. Many players (myself included) looked at these satellites as money tits and siphoned away significant money from players who were simply trying to play the Sunday tournament cheaply. Live NL win rates are very closely tied to the standard preflop opening raise size. A good winning player can expect to win about 2x the standard preflop opening raise per hour. Live 2/5 NL games can vary quite a bit with some having $15 standard raise sizes, similar to online, and others having $35 (or more) standard raise sizes.

One thing a lot of players do not understand about makeup/cake is that it is paid back first, before "profit" is determined. This is critical. In reality the backer is paying most of the makeup to themself because if there was no makeup they would still get their share of this money. If you are being staked, a 50/50 deal is great for you, most deals the backer gets more than 50%. Frequently as much as 65% or even higher if there is no makeup.

Pokerstars has the ability to identify a specific computer not just the IP. If they say it was your computer that means exactly that, your computer. Usually posts like these are made by the guilty party. Not accusin', just sayin'. If you did not do it then call the police and have them investigate who broke into your place while you were gone.

Bank wire transfer works great. My bank does not charge bank wire fees but the intermediate bank charged $35. For a withdrawal of $5k that was cheap in my mind. To avoid failed transactions be certain to do the following: 1) Call your bank branch and get their Swift code for international wire transfers. Probably will be 8 digits but might be 11 digits. 2) If your bank also gives you a routing transit number, which is 9 digits, do NOT enter that number on the Stars form. There are three banks involved in most wire transfers from Stars; Star's bank, your bank, and an intermediary bank (middleman). Even if your bank charges no fees and Stars covers the cost of their bank you will still be hit a fee for the intermediary bank. This is usually $35. Since this bank is the one risking seizure by the US DoJ the $35 fee is reasonable IMO.

I was having a discussion with a couple friends about these type graphs and we came to the conclusion that the vast majority we have seen all show expected way above actual. How is this possible' Everyone can not be running bad at the same time. The only reasonable answer is either the concept or the application of the concept is flawed.

Poker could be considered a game, a competition, or a hobby but not a sport. And golf is definitely not a sport. Golf is a hobby.
