Serious tipping thread. Between 15-20%. I have seen a ton of these threads, but don't recall reading what people tip on a buffet. What do you tip someone who brings and refills your drinks, but you get your own food' Posted in: Off Topic |

Groomsmen/ Best man gift ideas It worked out well. I had to spend $200 on my tux the year before at one of my groomsmen's weddings and all I got was a shitty $50 gift that I never even took out of the box. Posted in: Off Topic |

Thoughts on tablets.... True, I don't love the idea over overpaying either. However, I got a great tablet with a nice screen for $250 less 28% (tax deduction) for a grand total of $180 since it's for my business. Free shipping no sales tax. It isn't the worst thing in the world. I use it for sales presentations and it works quite well. Posted in: Off Topic |

Thoughts on tablets.... I just got the HP Touchpad. They got a bad rap, but it's a pretty slick tablet. It's powerful and fast. The Butler service is kind of cool, which is free for a couple of months after activation. I missed the $99 firesale, but they are still going for $250 or so on Ebay. Posted in: Off Topic |

What are you doing with your life (career-wise) and are you happy? I have two companies. First is a consultancy in the credit card processing space. I love it because I'm an advocate for companies that are getting screwed in one of the dirtiest industries around. It's also a nice ego boost to be see myself and my company published in big media outlets like Forbes, USA Today, Entrepreneur, etc. The money is also great. The second company is in the mobile marketing industry, which is booming. We've just launched and are having a ton of fun marketing the product. After working for myself I realize that I am completely unemployable so I'll have to keep ... Posted in: Off Topic |

Some new job searching/interview questions Cancel the interview with the at&t people. It's a complete waste of time, I used to work for that company. You can't practice your interview skills because they don't interview you, they just try to recruit you like a MLM company. Good luck on the job hunt. Posted in: Off Topic |

Just booked a cruise!! I just went on my 4th cruise with my wife who has done 7 or 8 by now. I've done 2 with Carnival, 1 with Royal, and just went on Celebrity (last minute was $620 total for 2 people for 5 nights with tax and tip) We actually went to Roatan, which is beautiful, but kind of depressing when you see the locals. Here's one thing that no one mentioned. If you tip your cabin person they can usually get you a bottle of wine every day. I love cruising. No stress in planning anything, beautiful beaches, and typically very good food. If you have a chance you have to go on the Oasis of the Seas. ... Posted in: Off Topic |

OT Business Owners Hows Christmas Trade Been? My company is normally slower during the holidays (B2B) as that is our clients' busy season. Our busy time is during the summer. However, we saw many of our clients, especially those with online companies had a very busy October and November and we will know about December in a couple of weeks. Posted in: Off Topic |

Work from home In years past selling credit card processing has generally been quite lucrative if you make it past the first year. However, I doubt many people getting into the industry now will be able generate that kind of income. This is from someone who has been in the industry for 4 years. Posted in: Off Topic |

Government "Helps" Us, We Get Screwed. SSDD The bailout is a separate issue. I was against the bank bailouts. However, the government screwed this up when it comes to the Durbin Amendment attached to Dodd-Frank. If the government tried to cap how I could charge my clients, I'd have to find creative ways of recapturing that revenue. That's what the banks did here. They are trying to make it less desirable for consumers to use debit cards because they make far less profit on debit card processing than credit card processing. It used to be the other way around. During the process they are trying to drive up revenue more ... Posted in: Off Topic |

Government "Helps" Us, We Get Screwed. SSDD This fee is a direct result of the Durbin Amendment, which took BILLIONS of dollars away from banks for debit card processing fees. This is the free market response to that loss of revenue. Don't be surprised if the next step banks take is to cap the amount you spend on a debit card to $50 per transaction. Lastly, because of the poorly drafted legislation the cost for doing business (with regard to accepting cards) will go UP. Therefore, prices will rise and the consumer will get hit in their wallet from both sides. I've been pretty vocal about this for the last 15 months or so and ... Posted in: Off Topic |

Text Message Delays on Sprint/Boost Mobile/Nextel Still Happening? Hey guys. I am looking to switch cell phone carriers. Currently, I have Metro PCS, which is great, but it isn't compatible with most SMS or mobile marketing companies and I am launching a mobile marketing company in the next couple of weeks. I was thinking of switching to Boost or Sprint. I am reading that a couple of years ago they had severe text delays where it would take up to 6 hours to receive a text. I need to receive texts instantly, so for anyone who has Sprint/Boost/Nextel do you still get delayed texts or did they fix the problem' I can't find any info confirming or denying ... College academic Stories College was extremely easy for me and I graduated Cum Laude. Here are some interesting stories about my experience. 1. My second to last semester I was filling in my graduation paperwork. I just finished my schedule for my last 12 credits and was speaking to my advisor. The advisor said everything looks good, but you need to add 2 more classes to graduate because the computer says I was 18 credits short of my 120. Yes, the computer system actually lost 2 of my classes that I took at the college, these weren't transfer credits or anything. It literally took several weeks to get this ... Posted in: Off Topic |

Opinions On Possible New Job Do you live at home with your Mom' Does she want you to take the other job so you can afford to move out' That's the only reasonable explanation I can think of as to why she would suggest you kill your career. Why can't you just look for other better paying jobs while you're working at your current one' You're assuming if you took the landscaping job that you wouldn't get caught for cheating on your taxes. What happens if you were to take the job with your buddy and he gets audited' The IRS will follow the money and suddenly you'll be owning taxes with penalties and interest along ... Business Idea I think you're missing the point. You're going to spend all day scrambling for razor thin margins and competing with thousands of people with the same idea you have. I did the same thing you did with Everquest with MTG cards except I profited $20k in a summer. I would find people out of touch with the game who were selling their old cards within a 25 mile radius of where I lived, convince them to let me go through their collection in person, and if it was a good hit I'd buy their stuff for pennies on the dollars. When I had a big huge collection I sold it as a major collection for a lot ... Posted in: Off Topic |

Business Idea I'm seeing a pattern here. You want to buy things off of large public sales sites (Craigslist for event tickets and Ebay for phones) and resell them to people you believe wouldn't think to go online to purchase such things. I think that this won't really work because you're assuming your customers can't or won't go online to buy these things. One of the reasons that businesses are able to buy a product cheaply and sell it for profit is because they buy in bulk and from vendors who can't or won't sell to the general public. I can see from recent threads that you are looking to scare up ... Posted in: Off Topic |
