Re(2): a small stakes last longer contest on 2 riptide DISE?
Anyone up for this sometime later in the week, or this weekend' If we organize ahead of time, might be able to get a decent amount of people in it. Weekend would be good for me...Two late FT's in two days. Good thing I fund my bosses online poker losses, or he might get mad at me for falling asleep in my office. --Point

Who needs a job when you have poker?
Hey all, I'm just curious for those of you who aren't professional poker players, what's your real life job' For any students, what are you planning to do for a job' I'm an actuary, so basically I figure out when someone is going to die and how we can suck them dry until they do. I like the job because it's a nice warm and fuzzy job that really makes me feel like I'm doing something good. Actually, I like it because all it is, is EV all day long, but with people's insurance premiums and life expectancy, and I bore myself just talking about it.

Re(9): Online Poker Related Injuries
I was at a friend's house when he blacked out in the middle of a hand, fell and hit his head. He had 10-10, reraised, got called and was upset, saw he was called by 99, was excited, saw a 9 come on the flop, got very angry, turned a 10 and lost it. I've never seen a sober person black out like that. Gotta love those rollercoaster ride hands.

Re(1): why would you call here?
I'm sure Ho would be the best person to answer this question, but he probably figured he was getting good enough odds to call. Against any two over cards he's slightly less than 40% to win the hand and he's getting slightly better pot odds than that to call that bet. The pot odds dictate a call in this situation. Tough luck on the Cowboys.

Re(1): What to do?
In both situations you got your money in a huge favorite. Just because the hands didn't work out for you, don't think you misplayed them. Sometimes people will call with inferior hands and sometimes they will catch, but more often than not, you will win. You can't judge how you should play hands based on the outcome of just one hand. Keep your head up. If you keep doing what you're doing, you'll be successful.

Even if he is 16, I understand why the websites might care, but why do people here think this is such a bad thing. Haven't other people come out and said they started playing online before they turned 18 on accounts made for them by their parents'

Re(4): Tax Question
Brian, I believe the law states international accounts of more than $10,000 must be declared on your taxes. I would interpret that to mean the amount currently in any international account on December 31. Also, moving money out to make sure you have less than $10,000 just before tax time is a serious No-No and worse than not declaring the account at all.

Re(6): Instead of EV, Think risk vs reward
It is a +EV for chips, but not necessarily for money depending on the payout structure and the distribution of what place you can finish in by calling vs. what the distribution is if you lay it down. I think that was his point. There are times in a tournament where a +EV in chips doesn't necessarily translate into a +EV for money because each chip is not worth a corresponding dollar amount. Just look at the winner of a tournament who has 100% of the chips and gets 22% of the money. If a tournament was $150 to buy-in and you got 1500 in chips, that doesn't mean that each chip is worth $0.10 at ...

Re(3): Help with an Advanced SNG situation
It all comes down to your odds of finishing in what place if you win the hand vs. if you fold the hand. You're about 70% against A3(o) and 85% against 49(o). Would you say a distribution if you win the hand would be something like 1st 70% 2nd 20% 3rd 10% And if you fold the hand 1st 40% 2nd 40% 3rd 20% If that's the case, then folding to A3 is the right move based on EV, but calling if you're up against 49 is the right move. Let me know if this distribution seems right, or needs to be changed. against A3 calling EV = 1526, folding = 1800 against 49 calling EV = 1849, folding = 1800 ...

Re(5): whats your vote on the JJ situation??
Are the only two options removing him permanently or leaving him on there' Can't he be removed from 3 months and the statistics from those 3 months considered when decided whether to rank him or not' Do people think after all that has happened he would ever go back to playing multiple accounts in a tournament again' He's obviously a smart guy. If there's any question about whether he won those tournaments with JJ Prodigy because of wrong doings on his part, then why not take him from the rankings for 3 months and watch how he plays when he only has one shot at each tournament. Seems to me, ...

Re(2): Help with an Advanced SNG situation
Jeff, you are a far superior player to me, but here's my thoughts on the sitaution. I would aboslutely bet out. If the big stack has shown a willingness to laydown hands then trying to take his blind is probably the right move. After he has reraised me, I would lay the hand down. It may be a +EV situation, but if the big stack is not playing correct strategy, there is a good chance that you can come back to beat him even with the chip deficit. Even if he is pushing with any two cards, you're probably about 3:1 to win the hand and you can't discount the possibility that he does have aces. ...

Re(1): Instead of EV, Think risk vs reward
Great post, Chris. It brings up an excellent point. I think it especially important for people who play at a higher level than their bankroll can afford. If you have a (relatively) unlimited bankroll or are playing a cash game and can reload at anytime then simply taking pot odds is the correct decision, but in tournament poker you have to not only consider the pot odds when deciding whether to call a bet, but also how important those chips are to your stack. The more chips you have, the less each chip means to you and you can call a bet that you only have a borderline +EV while if you are ...

Re(1): I think the real problem with offshore gaming is .net ads
Getting an offshore account is easy enough' Considering one of the main claims of why they're trying to push the bill through is to prevent money laundering and corruption, having every online poker player rush out to get an offshore account may not be the best approach. That being said, if anyone knows how to go about doing it. Feel free to PM me. LOL
