Cash games, posting oop
now,let me begin to say that i never post oop in cash games. now the thing is that i saw someone make an argument for posting in CO in a full ring and in thought about it and: at a 9man table, you pay sb+bb or 1.5bb to see 9 hands, so its 0.167bb/hand if you post dead blind in CO you pay 1bb to see 6 hands, so also 0.167bb/hand at a 10man table is more interesting, lets see. you pay 1.5bb to see 10 hands, 0.15bb/hand now posting from CO you pay 1bb to see 7 hands, 0.143bb/hand now, can we conclude that posting dead blind in 10 man table is better than to pay the blinds, so making it ...

Re(1): Percentage to Ratio chart? or answers : )
its easy to calculate. just add the numbers and make a division of 100/result. for example. 2-1 => 100/(2+1)=33.3% 3-1 => 100/(3+1)=25% 3-2 = 1.5-1 => 100/(2.5)=40% u prolly get the idea.

Re(5): My revolutionary new poker tournament theory
not sure about if the $$/hour is bigger in smaller fields, because on one hand you take 4hours to win like 20 times the buyin, to win it,but on bigger fields you take like 7 or 8 hours but to win 100+ times the buyin so on the long run i think it ends up to even out. p.s: assuming the multitable ratio per hour is the same.

Re(8): My revolutionary new poker tournament theory
i think its you who dont get it. we are assuming equal buy in tourneys, the only thing that changes is the field size.

Re(6): My revolutionary new poker tournament theory
tbh, the better thing i see in big field MTTs is that if you are building a BR, the big score will make a diference because it means you will climb stakes, faster if you are confident enough, and also a winning player, and begin to make more money/hour sooner. now if you have a stable BR and all the money you win goes to your bank account, these smaller fields MTTs can be much better.

Re(6): My revolutionary new poker tournament theory
what green plastic says is if you can reduce variance significantly without reducing as significantly your ROI, it can be better for some players, prolly most of us.

Re(7): My revolutionary new poker tournament theory
yeah i guess, $/hour should be suffer as much as ROI, so if you dont like variance, play those small tourneys with the ocasional big field, shouldnt be much of a diference.

Re(5): My revolutionary new poker tournament theory
yeah i guess you are right. but on the other hand, a mtt with a field of 2k players, i doubt in the long run you have biger than 200% ROI, and prolly much less. And the best players of 4.40 180 man have 100%ROI, which only pays 10% of the field, although the field is very weak. So a ROI in a 200 field MTT or a 2000 field MTT, i figure dont have much diferent ROI's, maybe like 20 or 30% diference at best.

Re(3): My revolutionary new poker tournament theory
well, one way you can look at it is that, for example, a good ROI for 9 man SnG is 10-20%, for 45 man im not sure but i think its something like 50%, 180 man the better players have 100%, so prolly from until 180 player or so, tourney size matter for ROI, but beyond that prolly doesnt matter that much. is prolly is something like a logarithmic scale. edit:concluding, you are right to a certain point.

Re(1): College/Working/Poker/Bills
you have a 2k$ Poker BR' you can play 50NL, i 4table 50NL, winrate 11bb/100 (5.5PTBB/100), and do like 20$ an hour. its doable.

Re(3): "everything in poker is governed by math"
i've read an interview with Sorel Mizzi, in bluff magazine, in which he said something interesting. it was asked to him how he evaluates players live he doesnt know, so he profiled very generally somethings he noticed from experience, like older players being more conservative, younger players more agressive, and he talked about also about education levels. he said generally someone with a university education level is more math oriented and someone with high school education level more feeling oriented. so what i want to say is, some ppl for various reasons, either because of education ...

Re(8): "everything in poker is governed by math"
its possible, it just is very hard to translate the hours of experience, which gives a wide range of information about this type of player, the line he would take with a certain range of hands, etc, into % to be used by a computer program to calculate the % of the time opponent is bluffing. the weird feeling that you felt doesnt exist in a computer, for it, it just is +EV or not, thats the diference.

Re(6): "everything in poker is governed by math"
its possible, if the computer has the same information that you had to make the call, it can analyze it (through Bayes Theorem, thats what we do all the time) and know if it has the 30% needed or not (you probably thought you are good here more than 30% of the time for some reason, it wasnt a random thought i think).

Re(1): "everything in poker is governed by math"
ultimately, how a play is estimated to be profitable or not is math. the art part of poker, or non math part, is to figure out certain % of some variables, for example, a player is on tilt it increases the % range of hands he is playing, or a player checked the river OOP, you try to figure the % of time a bet will take the pot and size the bet acordingly, etc. some players can translate these perceptions into values and play accordingly and know why the play is +EV mathematically, others, with natural talent, just know in their gut that a certain play is +EV, though they can't describe it ...
