Re(3): AVG detects stars update virus? It'a a mistake in AVG's latest update. I got this reply from stars support. Thank you for your email regarding the AVG warning about the swizzlor virus threat. Please note that this is a false alarm introduced by a recent update to the AVG virus definition file. There is no virus in the PokerStars update, which we have confirmed through the use of alternate scanners from McAfee and Symantec. It is perfectly safe to click on the "Ignore" option and accept the update from PokerStars. However, should you get an update error, please disable your AVG software in order to ... Re(4): Hafizzle's theory on Vietcong's Style (Game theory) I reread the chapter from The Selfish Gene, and realised that I hadn't specified what part of game theory is actually discussed. It talks about ESS, or Evolutionarily Stable Strategies. I dunno, I might be off the mark trying to apply that part of game theory to poker tournament strategies, but it seemed like a good analogy. Perhaps if you look at tourneys as a one off game, it could make sense. Anyway, just to clarify that that's what I was referring to, not the Prisoners Dilemma. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(5): Hafizzle's theory on Vietcong's Style (Game theory) Just to reiterate, I'm not making a judgement on whether Vietcong is a donkey or w/e. Hafizzle's post just made me think of game theory as a way to think about how different strategies could become successful. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(4): Hafizzle's theory on Vietcong's Style (Game theory) Meh, ok, way to turn this into an argument. Anyway I do know a bit about game theory. You gave an example of the prisoner's dilemma. What happens if you repeat the game again, with both knowing what each other's action was in the last game' Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(2): Hafizzle's theory on Vietcong's Style (Game theory) Well, according to game theory it will. I'm not saying that vietcongs strategy will definitely work, but maybe one way to look at it is by making an analogy to game theory, which shows that if any one strategy becomes the staus quo, a different one will be able to take advantage for the short term, until it becomes that status quo. I make no judgement on VCs style, just thinking of a way to look why it seems to be working apart from saying its just an insane run. Another point is that game theory simulations can run for ever, obv VCs samples size(and anyone's for that matter) is too small ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(2): Hafizzle's theory on Vietcong's Style (Game theory) Yeah I read that article by Lederer on Goehring. I dunno, I mean, obviously if everybody played like VC it would be a disaster. But it's possible that him playing that way is successful for the moment, precisely because its so different. (Or donkish or luckboxy whatever people are calling it). He himself thinks so, from an interview he did with a spanish poker blog. He says ¿Por qué cree usted que es tan controvertido su juego' Porque no viene en los manuales al uso. He desarrollado un estilo que no parece encuadrable en los distintos tipos de jugadores que cuentan los manuales. Puedo ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Hafizzle's theory on Vietcong's Style (Game theory) To Hafizzle: You said "My question is there a point where because everyone is playing similar "correct" poker now, that a "donkish aggressive" style is better'" One way to think about your idea here could be to use game theory. In the book "The Selfish Gene" by Richard Dawkins, he discusses how a strategy can become successful due solely to the fact that it is different. For example an individual employing a "nasty" strategy will prevail if all others are practicing a "nice" strategy. Eventually everyone will use the nasty strategy as it is more successful, at which point the "nice" ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(3): Last hand SNG - Standard shove or total donkation Mayor I did the SAGE calculation and my shove is incorrect as my R was >10 My PI was 30 Jh = 11 *2 8d = 8 But wow, that article really is a revelation. Coincidentally I have just taken a class that involves Game Theory in relation to Evolutionary Stable Strategies (Evolution of Human Behaviour is the class). I had heard that game theory was applicable to poker, but have never really been in a situation where I thought it was actually useful, as I think game theory relies a lot on optimality. But HU in TURBO Sngs is the perfect situation! Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(2): Last hand SNG - Standard shove or total donkation Thanks for the replies guys. That's a great link Mayor, cheers. I agree bluedog, I kicked myself after shoving here, as I knew that I could have outplayed such a passive player and got it in good later. I need to work on adjusting my agression HU. It's like I get HU and a lot of times just start shoving unnecessarily. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(2): QQ - step 6a (lvl 2) Seems weird. I would raise call shove, but that's cos the SNGS i play, the decimal point is in a different place in the buy-in amount. Or cos its deep stacked call and reevaluate the turn. I guess raising on that flop is standard tho right' Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(2): Don't Forget: HUGE cheating at Stars too... What does the OP want, government regulation for the online poker industry' Yeah, that'll make it better. How many people now are going to play on AP' The demand won't be there. Eventually AP will be busto. Free market baby! Of course there will always be cheating in any industry. What is important is how the sites pursue cheaters and how they are punished. I'm happy with Stars effort, so I'll keep playin there.
