Interesting spot in the Big $162 on Stars....Thoughts from regs please?
Ok so i just finished up for the night and decided to post about an interesting hand from earlier tonight in the Big $162 on stars (I thought it was interesting but i'm curious to see how many people would just instantly say this spot is "standard", which seems to be the case quite a lot nowadays :) ). So i had been cruising along quite nicely and chipped up to around an 11.5k stack at 150/300 (will post the full HH tomorrow but for the purposes of the hand i can pretty much remember the relevant stacks and i need to sleep :) !!) and the following situation arose. UTG - 1750 chips Hero ...

MSMTT - 3 hands from yesterdays grind..
Liking this thread some interesting spots making for some good discussion so far. Hand 1 - I think this is a fairly easy fold. Even though the guy has been aggro i think there are just better situations where we can try and get chips from him. Lets run through our prospective options. I think flatting here OOP the pot can get very tricky very quickly...we're essentially making a set mine when the stacks don't really feel quite deep enough for it to be a worthwhile play in the long run. I guess an argument can be made for 3 bet/folding, with the information you provided that he had ...

Spot in daily $40k on stars, call the shove or fold, i probably know the answer...
Definitely calling. Oh and for what it's worth i think raise/calling is way better here than open shoving. We can get villains to re-shove some smaller pairs and other semi strong hands that they may get away from if we open shove.

AQcc From Button, Tough Spot...wwyd?
With stack sizes, history, plus the additional fact that this is a button vs small blind spot i think you have to be happy to 4 bet/call here. You can also advocate flatting his 3 bet pre and playing a smaller pot in position with a hand that probably looks a lot weaker than it is to our opponent. As played though i'm calling his shove.

spot w/ 99 facing reship in 11 dlr 6 max turbo w/ 26 bb
Can't imagine i am ever folding in a 6 max turbo here against a 15bb re-shove. Cutoff vs button makes it even more of a call in my opinion....99 plays pretty well vs his reshove range. Calling this basically every time unless the guy is a super nit. Granted it will often be a flip but raise folding here is definitely going to be a huge leak in the long run.

Deep spot in $200 Mini FTOPS 2 day event.. WWYD and Why?
Yeah 4 bet folding definitely feels like the worst line to take here. Kind of a sick spot. Just to confirm is this a 6 max event' Would certainly change the perceived value of our queens. Considering how deep we are this is a spot where with no reads i definitely like flatting the 3 bet preflop. Certainly not looking to 4 bet/fold and turn QQ into a bluff. We can disguise the size of our hand in a big way as i don't think the villain is ever giving us credit for a hand as strong as QQ when we flat his 3 bet. Also enables us to keep the pot under control until we're comfortable getting it in. ...

thoughts on how to proceed with set here
Although i do think a flat call is completely fine in this spot i think here there are a few important things to consider which could strengthen the argument for a different line. I think the fact that 5 people see a flop here is pretty significant....when Mach puts in the big pot reraise on the flop it seems pretty obvious that he has a big overpair here. In my experience in these spots if you just overjam behind villains actually find it a harder line to fold their AA/KK against. I think a raise to 1600 absolutely screams strength...so i would definitely prefer a jam here if i am going to ...

A little piece of my poker soul died here when i realised that you flatted his raise pre.... Just fold it pre. You don't need it.

Tough spot y/n? wwyd here?
I think considering the stack sizing...and especially the utg + 1 callers (~50bb)...we can probably slightly widen the calling range of the big stack compared to normal. I would range him as probably 77/AJs + (compared to maybe something like 99/AQ+ if he had a smaller stack''') so overshoving behind here is never "bad" imo. I think an important point here is how soft you think the table is....if its pretty cruisy progress and you feel you have an edge on the table then by all means a fold here isn't terrible as we still have enough play to pick other spots. However i think considering stack ...

live 1/2nl hand, can i find a fold here? this hands bugs me
I like putting a blocker bet in on the river...villain will flat with most one pair Ax's in this spot and help us to control the pot. Then If we get raised on river we can be almost certain that A5 is slaughtered.

FTOPS 22 wwyd
Pretty close spot with no reads but based on stack sizes/table position i'm jamming most of the time here. He can definitely fold here with his tiny min raise in position pre....people like to do this now to put you to a decision where you have to 4 bet jam your whole stack. Especially seeing as he has 2.3 mill to work with he can get creative on you here with a wide range pre. Still got a little fold equity with our 4 bet jam so i'm getting it in.

How would you have played this hand?
First off limping in with hands like A6 suited, especially in early position, puts you in a vulnerable position a lot of the time. Multiple players to act behind us who will have position on us throughout the hand is not a good place to be in! The optimal play is probably just to muck pre, even more so if it was a full ring game' So anyway once we're involved in the pot and have decided to take on the villain your most notable mistake was poor pot control in my opinion. Flop check is fine, and he checks behind. Your biggest mistake is on the turn. Leading $15 is fine...as we will probably ...

A HH from last year that has always bothered me... good spot to steal?
Yeah this is just a great spot to jam. Obviously this is an assumption but the smooth caller in this hand (Jean Roberts) screams weakness most of the time so we really only gotta worry about how strong the opening raiser is. Good spot to jam it in and pick up some dead money just unlucky that you ran into the top of raisers range.

Being at a poker crossroads....and taking the right path
Hi everybody. I guess i am starting this thread out of curiosity as to the big decisions us poker players have to make regarding the direction we want to go in for the future. I am currently at a crossroads where i feel i need to make a fairly concrete decision - do i want to be a MTT professional or play cash games to make the bulk of my living' I'm especially interested to hear what fellow professional players think on the subject....so here goes. If you will humour me and think back to the time where we all had a relatively innocent, battle-scar free, lets take on the world and crush ...

TT vs Squeeze, easy call? Whats ur calling range here?
Yeah standard easy call imo. Your flat call in the sb definitely disguises the strength of your hand...then we have a 18bb squeeze jam. I mean under very very strict conditions, like if you know for a fact the guy is a total rock you could consider folding. Otherwise get it in here every time, generally in pretty good shape versus the villains range.

JJ utg w 12 bbs. Just shove?
Standard raising is really a poor choice in this spot and puts you in a very vulnerable spot. I mean what are we going to do if we 2.5 x raise pre-flop and three guys flat us pre resulting in a A Q x board' We'd end up having to check fold and then be straight in the big blind with 8-9 bb left. Shove everytime here, you did the right thing just got unlucky with the lost race. You'll win the next one :)

AA on wetish board
I think there are a couple of interesting things here that are worth having a look at and perhaps haven't been discussed in the posts on this HH so far. The fact that this is a 5 way pot makes the bet sizing of the villain quite interesting imo. I also think this can tie in with a point that Maven made above. On the flop we quickly bet 456 into a pot of what 560-600 with 3 guys still left to act behind us...on the surface (i admit this is making some assumptions) to me this seems like a strong bet. I'd imagine a lot of the time in a 5 way pot we would be giving up with our AK/AQ, 88/99/1010 ...

2 spots, Deep in Sunday Kick off $109
1st hand see myself folding a lot 2nd hand jam From the lines people have mentioned above i would favour this. (with a possible argument for folding hand 2) To be honest i feel that nowadays especially there are a load of overly marginal jams going down which people seem to deem 'insta ships' when it feels it is a little needless' While i don't think that jamming either spot is terrible so to speak i think we still have enough play in hand one to standard raise and re-evaluate. With four to act behind us it would still give a little scope to get away from the spot if all hell breaks loose ...

Hand from ftp 100c, call or fold?
Considering the stacks involved i think this is a call. With the raiser (~25bb) and caller (~42bb) in front....seems like the villain can be making a spewy iso play a lot of the time here' Like these spots seem to come up quite a lot where the squeezer doesn't want to get flatted by either of the others in the pot and get outplayed postflop so just jams with AK/JJ/1010/99 type hands to try and take it down/get it in pre-flop' Especially with his big stack feels like he would often go down this route so feels like QQ could play vs his range nicely. Plus with your earlier reads think we gotta ...

ITM in the 18k Super Stack on Full Tilt..WWYD
Seems like a good spot to flat the shove for many of the reasons discussed above....we are going to play well vs the shovers' range and it is difficult to see the button re-shoving ott with less than JJ/AK+. I think the fact that you said you had a tight image makes flatting even better in this instance, as the 97k button stack might even have cause to fold those marginal hands (for the situation) like 88/99/1010 behind. So i would say flat and re-evaluate in the unlikely event of a button shove. I mean playing devils advocate if the button does then shove we can spew fold if need be and ...

Reading Between the Lines......
Good point poison and for sure no offense taken :) . My thought process preflop was that i am rarely ever going to be flatted pre-flop here by a hand like stack sizes and image it seems mentally like this will be an easy R/F to a 3 bet or a chance to keep the stack ticking over if it gets through. I suppose this may just be giving too much credit to my opponents at the table. In hindsight i am definitely now favouring the weak lead out on flop to set up a 4 bet jam, with the opportunity to double barrel if we do get flatted on the flop. I think with a 21bb stack remaining i had felt that i ...

Reading Between the Lines......
Thanks guys. Yeah the more i think about it Ape the more i favour the double barrel, the weak lead to set up a re-jam over the top could definitely be a shout too as looks very strong. I guess when i do risk an open with this stack size i put myself in a difficult situation quite a lot so something to avoid in the future. I'm just wondering if you guys think it is ALWAYS horrible to open here' I have been getting differing opinions from the people in my poker inner circle. Like in certain table dynamics, where it is non stop openers pre-flop, its ok to sometimes try and squeeze one through ...
