Re:Some big breaking news regarding UB... I am not an Annie Duke fan, but I don't know how this changes anything that she has been saying. Annie has just been saying that the cheating was done by old ownership, not new ownership, and that new ownership is trying to fix it (though it won't reveal names). I don't see how any of this changes what she has said on this forum regarding the UB scandal. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Annie Duke video interview about the UB scandal Thank you for that answer. For me, at least, it is not "hating." Rather, it is frustration that: 1) No apparent legal or financial consequences to the cheater. It even seems UB is protecting this person by keeping his identity secret. 2) Despite the 4-month investigation, it seems that all the investigation was done by 2+2 forum members and UB just followed up on the information given to them. What has UB been able to find on their own' 3) UB is quick to blame the "software hole" that allowed the cheating, but they don't address the lack of security process that ... Re:Annie Duke video interview about the UB scandal Does anybody suspected of being involved in the cheating still receive any money or other benefits from UB' Do they have any involvement with UB whatsoever' All the answers I've seen you and others give are couched in language that leaves a lot of wiggle room. Re:Annie Duke video interview about the UB scandal I absolutely mean what I said. For UB to get away without serious consequences is a tremendous threat to online poker players. It means that aside from being bashed in public poker forums, there are no significant short-term or long-term consequences for allowing cheating on a site. In my mind that is a much bigger threat than a 60 minutes report, even if it turns out to be biased. When people are afraid that public exposure to crime in their community will bring unwanted attention to their community, it is a free pass for criminals. As far as I'm concerned, all the explanations given ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Annie Duke video interview about the UB scandal This is the kind of attitude that allows crime to run rampant in some minority communities. Seriously, if the poker community acted in a way that punished online poker sites for allowing their customers to be cheated out of hundreds of thousands (millions'), then I may play along with what you suggest. But, as Annie says, their revenue isn't even affected by this. So absent significant consequences from the poker community, I'm happy to see a mainstream news organization like 60 minutes rip them a new one. Let the chips fall where they may. Streams of white light into darkened ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Annie Duke video interview about the UB scandal Thanks for publicly responding to this issue, Annie. Here are my concerns: 1) From what I've read, it seems all the detective work was done by 2+2 forum members. It is not clear if UB's investigation found anything beyond what they were told by others. How can we have any confidence that UB can detect problems on its own' 2) NioNio's winnings were so far anything reasonable that it is hard to imagine what kind of security system would fail to catch the problem. The only reasonable conclusion for me is that there was no meaningful security and I've seen nothing to indicate ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Poker in Seattle? Diamond Lil's in Renton has a 10am Sunday morning tournament with a max of 99 people (it is usually close to being filled). $65 + rebuys for 1st 2 rounds + add-on. As people bust they open up tables for limit cash games: 4-8 holdem, 8-16 holdem, 10-20--sometimes an 08 limit game. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Is anybody else worried about this 60 Minutes "online poker cheats" segment? So you are arguing that I should prove your conjecture is wrong when you full-well know that even if you are wrong it would be nearly impossible to prove it' That's the same as me asking you to prove that there has been no other cheating. You can't do it, and it doesn't make sense for me to ask you to do that. The point is, the only cheating that has been caught has been outright blatant cheating. There is no regulation of or transparency into the industry. The players themselves are unwilling, as a whole, to boycott sites that are caught red-handed cheating their customers due to ... Re:Is anybody else worried about this 60 Minutes "online poker cheats" segment? >Online poker as a whole, on the sites end, is 99% clean despite their actions. You are obviously making that up as you have no way of knowing that. The reason the cheating was discovered (reminder: never by the sites themselves) is that it was so blantant it could be proved mathematically. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Is anybody else worried about this 60 Minutes "online poker cheats" segment? That's funny: set back "the cause". What exactly is "the cause"' I remember that two or three years ago the conventional wisdom was that sites would never be involved in cheating their customers because it would result in them losing their huge cash cow and going out of business. Instead, when "the unthinkable" happened (twice) it simply exposed the enormous amount of greed fueling online poker. Online poker operators are so greedy that they cheat thier customers to make even more money than they are already raking in. Online pro's are so greedy that ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Q for Rizen and Bax Nobody is accusing them of cheating. However, they are endorsing a site that has allowed its customers to be cheated out of a huge sum of money, but saying they've got everything fixed now. But it turns out they still can't catch the cheats, even after they were supposed to have completed their "thorough investigation". Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Q for Rizen and Bax So it turns out that 2+2 people are still finding cheating accounts that UB hasn't been able to find. It appears they haven't found any cheaters on their own and only take action when 2+2 people jam the evidence down their throats. Is this part of "heading in the right direction" or "successful resolution of the super user issue"' Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:UB Tour of Duty Hey Annie, Any chance that UB could make their software open source' Some of the most secure products in the world are open source products because there are so many people reviewing the software. And given UB's dismal track record at finding their own security holes, this may go a long way in helping restore their image and truly making them "the most secure" poker site. Once one poker site does it, it will put pressure on all sites to do likewise. Thanks. Posted in: Poker Discussion |
