Re(1): 5K EVENT..WHAT WOULD YOU DO HERE? Unquestionably call. And if you're wrong, take your lumps. Gotta play to win in this spot. If all you want is to be ITM, click the sit out and don't even look at the hands. If you want to win some significant money, gotta take a shot here. And if you're more worried about getting your buy-in back than real money (1-3) then you're playing over your head. I would have to think that if the button really did have a monster (AK, AA, KK or even QQ) he would NOT raise here. You WANT action with a monster. An all in raise is not the way to bet if you want action, on the bubble, on the button. He ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): How big of sample needed for 180 man MTTs? Depends on who you ask, but I'd say several hundred. I have 50ish with a 186% ROI - which everyone says isn't a realistic number. Someone on here did 180 as an experiment (search 180x180 SNG Challenge). Randy Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): Transition from online to live tournament play Man this post got no love, and I thought is a decent question... I've played a lot live and changed to online recently. No pro at all - but my obversations: 1) Yes. Don't do it for the sake taking time - there are a whole lot more things to see and take into account. People have tells live. There are no livestats above their heads. Take your time and make good decisions. 2) Be careful because just because someone does something doesn't mean its a tell. Get Caro's book of Tells, but mostly remember that everyone is different and one guy's weak hand is another's monster. 3) Its WAY less - ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): UPDATE ON HORSE RACING!!!! All the advice is good so far, but here's a couple more points: The most important thing is that all three questions are about calling. If you aren't familiar with the Gap Concept, look it up online or in one of Slansky's books (I think its his). The theory is that you need a better hand to CALL a raise than you do to raise with. Its a very important and very powerful strategy - and it means that you will RARELY cold call on the flop. Given that, here is my .02. 1) You're not cold calling here, you're calling one bet - and its 7 to 1 odds - AND your action will close the round. That's a ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): Did I miss the memo on limping with AA? The mistake made when limping in with aces is when the person CAN'T FOLD THE ACES after the flop. If you've already made up your mind to get all your chips in the pot, and you limp, you make a huge mistake by letting people see the flop cheaply. They are making either a small mistake or no mistake at all by limping with rags depending on pot odds. If you are skilled enough, and know your opponents well enough to put them on a hand and fold your aces after the flop and betting say you're aces are no good, then limping in with aces is a viable play. If you're not, you are giving multiple ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): Please somebody...would love some advice on the 180 S&G's Well, first off you can't make any judgement of yourself on playing "a couple of these". I've played about 50, and most say that's not even statistically relevant. My ROI is 186% (smoking hot, but like I said not really enough for the ROI to be accurate). I alternate between these two depending on how I feel and/or how the table I'm on is playing: Premium hands only until the 75/150 blinds, then turn on the aggression and try to steal and/or double up until you get back in it or bust out. OR Try to play a lot of hands cheaply when the blinds are small and make a big stack or go broke ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): Can anyone put a number to the advantage of doubling up early (MTT)? Yup, that's a damn fine article - especially this part: " Some say calling with the queens would amount to a good player letting his skill go to waste. Here’s the thing about poker — the skill is about finding edges. And edges are precious. Think about it; on most hands, we fold before the flop. It’s very hard to find a way to get our chips in profitably. And here, we have a known edge. We know that in the long run, we’ll earn $810 by calling with the Q-Q. That’s not a small edge. Folding here would be akin to flushing an hour’s work down the toilet. Calling here doesn’t negate our skill over ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Can anyone put a number to the advantage of doubling up early (MTT)? Since I know some of you have thousands of MTTs recorded - has anyone ever tried to quantify doubling up early in an MTT' I have seen many posts which advocate playing really loose in the first couple of blind levels in an attempt to double up. Can anyone put some numbers to that' Would anyone be able to say "My ROI/ITM is X, but when I double up (or more) within the first three blind levels, my ROI/ITM is y"' I'd be awful interested in those numbers. I don't beleive I have a statistically relevant sample size, but I'll post what I have tomorrow if anyone's interested... Randy Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): Who should hold my roll? As far as the safest place, I can't say I'd be worried about any of the big sites - though I wouldn't keep a large roll in a small struggling site in case they go under. When you are thinking about how much to keep on a site, keep in mind their deposit maximums. Check the sites and the depositors to see that you can deposit enough to sustain your play. For instance, at Absolute Poker, the max deposit for Firepay is $1000 per day. If you play 10/20, 1K per day may not be enough to cover your requirements. Just don't cash out so much that you can't reload on a dry run. Randy Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): what are standard pre flop raises for AK, KK, AA in MTTs or SNGs when blinds are 10/20 and 15/30? I'm decent at low price MTT/SNGs, but keep in mind I'm no pro: As far as standard preflop raises with those hands, there is none. Your raise depends on how you want to play. You can't play standard poker at those levels, because the 3x the BB doesn't mean anything to a fish with a lot of chips. Early, AK is a drawing hand. I may make a 3x raise, but I know that if I miss the flop I'll fold. KK merits a raise that will fatten the pot but not cripple you, so you can commit if an ace doesn't hit the flop. And AA is either raise and isolate, or get as many people as you can in there, then go all ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(3): Do you ever fold the winning hand? If you have, say, 10x the amount of chips he does, I WOULD push a 3% edge. Regardless of the table. If he has, say 10x the amount of chips I do, I WOULD push a 3% edge. If we're pretty even, and losing would cripple me for any future action, a 3% edge wouldn't be enough... Re(2): Do you ever fold the winning hand? There is a difference between winning 9 of 10 times and having him beat on the flop. That's the subject here I think. How big of a favorite do you need to be to push here' 55%' 70%' If the table conditions are great and you're all over your opponents, why push a 3% edge when you know a 25% edge will be right behind it. Re(1): Do you ever fold the winning hand? I would say to save your chances for a better spot. I beleive it was brsavage that said he'd rather push after the flop with a 95% chance of winning than go all in with aces preflop and 80% chance to win. You said you were 9/10 that you had him beat on the flop. Well, how "beat" was he' I've called rediclous raises several times in tourneys with a mid pair, when I know my opponent is semi bluffing on a flush draw. After losing what I thought was too many of them to those flush draws, I did some sims on the hands in question, and found out it was like 60/40 or 55/45 in my favor on those ... Re(1): What makes you play where you play? I started out on PokerStars and keep coming back to them. By far, the best software, support, game selection out there. Never had a single problem with them. I play on Full tilt sometimes, and I do like their software, but i get these weird pauses every 30 seconds or so. Also, their bonus is next to impossible to earn unless you play huge limits. Been playing on Absolute for a bit and they are OK, but not enough people, and their interface sucks. Re(1): Poker...the way it is Tater, I'm a ditch digger, and probably will never be anything else. Two things: I used to think I was just unluckier than most, until I got one of those tracker programs for hand histories. After I got enough hands in there, I found out that pocket aces won the amount they were supposed to, were the most profitable hand, etc. All the numbers pan out and I found out that no matter how often Aces hold up, they won't plug a leak on another part of your game (out of position crap and unwilling to fold for me). Re(4): Could you make this laydown? (Last 3 of PS 180 SNG) The reason I asked is that I had the Ace of Diamonds. Would anyone of you smooth call the flop like that guy did, and then risk all your chips, on a three flush board, if you didn't already have either the made flush or the nut flush draw' Its not so much that I flopped the straight. I flopped a nut flush draw on a three flush board. If someone smooth calls my flop bet, then bets into me, WHILE I HOLD THE ACE, should I stop and put them on the made flush. Because now that I look at the hand, the only way he goes all in there on the turn is if he puts ME on the A or K of diamonds. Then it ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |
