20 Years old. Heading to Las Vegas in November, any advice?
With all due respect, if you don't know that Atlantic City isn't "11 hours north" of Lexington, Ky, you have both no clue and no chance. IMHO you need to rethink your life strategy.

Re:What is the bottom of your jamming range here?
Tough position, I seem to be in it a lot lately too. I'm shoving with TT+, AK. Not shoving AQ because: a) I'm a nit; b) every time I do I'm shown AK.

Re:Why Gamblers Should Dislike PelosiCare
Forget the $s. The reason you should hate ObamaCare is because it will get in between you and the best quality healthcare in the world. Look at the statistics on survivability of major diseases and trauma - if you have any disease or are in a serious accident you want to be in the US as your chances of living are higher than anywhere else, period.

Re:coinflip gambles early tournament
Limp/shoving or shoving over limpers with small pairs seems to be all the rage for some players these days. I also run into the occasional very good player who understands this and is doing this with AA, KK hoping to be called by someone who reads him/her as having a small pair who will call with a hand like AK, AQ. Early in a tourney I'm not calling without JJ+, maybe with AK. Will be much better opportunities down the road.

Quoting statistics. If the player whose stats you quote cares and calls the moderator it's an insta-ban.

Re:Is this call a product of the level, or is this reasonably justified?
FWIW, I'm seeing this type of call a lot at $27 level SNGs as well, both in the situation you describe (calling after limping) as well as calling someone's open-shove with any face card. It is always inexperienced, or poor players who make this call (I always look them up on Sharkscope). I almost never see this play from an experienced, regular SNG player (one I have notes on and who has a nice ROI on Sharkscope). With that evidence I have to conclude this is a very poor play. I definitely see this call more on Friday and Saturday nights, which I attribute to more inexperienced ...

Re:classic spot...whats your move?
OP: hope you'll one day learn to take a more humble approach to the world. Think about this: What is it that makes ALL people admire the likes of Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus' I can assure you it's not because they never sought the advice of others because no one had scored as well as they. Two words: grow up.

Re:Bank is requesting a phone interview. Help!
One lesson here is that wire transfers are easy to track/flag. Checks are not. One of the financial industry's biggest complaints with the UIGEA was the challenge it would pose to try and track checks from off-shore companies. For what it's worth, checks seem to be clearly the way to go. Don't make it easy for them to flag you.

Just "wow" To think that someone would NOT be joking by asking for 25% is comical. That's where we've arrived as a society' If I tell you your car is unlocked you want me to pay you' Sad, sad commentary. RJ = epic narcissist. To actually send ANY $s as a "thank you" is 100% class. ryanwelch = 100% good human.

Re:How do they do it? How do they dodge the bad luck?
Some good replies here IMO, especially from wahoodb4. Clearly, those who chip up early can live through the (inevitable) bad beats and still rally. Players who do this have a very big skill of picking up pots that no one else really wants, without a showdown. I think the other item, especially at the live events, is these guys get into a "zone" where they really are just reading people better. Look at Ivan Demidov last year, Lisandro this year, plus I think two of the November 9 for this year at the WSOPE final table this past month. I strongly believe that reading players is as ...

Re:Playing Styles by buy-in: Have you noticed?
Definitely seeing it. I play $27 SNGs on Stars and my variance has increased quite a bit over the past few months because of what you describe. Even more interesting is I've noticed a difference in days of the week - on Friday/Saturday nights the "call with any two" crowd is out in full force. I suspect many are enjoying their favorite intoxicating substance in abundance while playing, LOL. Several have given you the right advice, it's all about waiting for the blinds to get up there and then shoving when ICM tells you. No sense in trying any moves early, or even late. Just ...

I'll second your WOW... just at final table of a $25, 45-man SNG. Pushed with QQ (with about 12 BB) from middle position with 5 left, called by Q2o in the BB for 70% of his stack! WOWSER!

Live Tourney Hand - How do You Play it?
Late in the daily noon tournament at the Venetian. About 15 left out of starting field of 130. In the $ as 18 we're payed. Have a stack of $52,000 (slightly below average) with blinds at 3000/6000 with 500 ante. In the cutoff and it's folded to us. The button has about 25K, the SB about 60K, the BB about 38K. You look down at AJ off. The button has folded to our raises all day unless he had a very big hand (AQ+) The SB is new to our table with the combination of the last 3 tables down to 2 and hasn't played a hand in 1.5 orbits. The BB is new to the table with the ...

Re:Live Mental Notes
Sorry, should have been more explicit. I agree. That's why I get up, stretch, and make the notes out of sight of the other players. That's another bonus, it forces you to get up once and awhile rather than stay glued to your seat.

Re:Live Mental Notes
Take a small notebook. After a couple of rounds, give each player a label based on their starting hands (loose, medium, tight) and their aggressiveness (hyper-aggressive, aggressive, weak, passive, calling station). As the session goes on, refine your descriptions based on new evidence. One of the side benefits of doing this is it forces you to think about the actions/style of each opponent early in the session. Good luck.

Re:Hellmuth's Grand Entrance
Let's see, he makes a spectacle of himself in order to win endorsement money that likely is more than his poker winnings. Yup, a real dope. Many sports have a "Phil". Think Dennis Rodman. More power to him for understanding how to leverage 11 bracelets into a fortune. Before the main event, there is one bet you can make that is a guaranteed winner: that Phil Helmuth will get some air time on the ESPN coverage.

Re:hand from 1/2 nl at the tropicana in AC
As played, easy fold. What could you possibly beat' If you're going to raise preflop, have to make it more like 25 to go with 4 limpers in front. Plan is to take it down preflop or be heads up. Otherwise limp as well with the plan being to hit two pair or a strong draw on the flop, otherwise check/fold the flop. Plan in the latter case is to hit the flop hard where you might be able to stack an opponent who hits top pair only and will go with it.

Re:SNGs
As always Jennifear has nailed it. As someone else once posted, you have to think of SNGs as more of a "math test" than a card game. They can be beat if you have the discipline to make the right moves based on the math, i.e. the independent chip model. But there will always be variance when you have donks calling you and hitting and it IS very, very frustrating. Having played these for several years recreationally (I'll save you the Sharkscope lookup - I'm at 18% over 4,590 games - hidden brag I guess) I'm seeing variance at it's highest over the past couple of ...
