Re(4): Careers for poker players
One of the best professions to combine math and business skills is the actuarial profession. You have to take a series of tests to become qualified but you do it while you're working and gaining experience. By the time you finish (or even before), an easy 6-figure income awaits. A few actuaries are CEOs and CFOs of Fortune 500 companies (e.g. Pacific Life, The Hartford), while a great many are vice presidents and officers. All the while, you are challenged to solve problems using your analytical skills and knowledge, much like you do at the poker tables. We even have our own poker forum ...

Re(1): 5000/1 odds on this call, is this a good fold?
He could have been the guy at my home game a few years ago. He was adamant in his interpretation of the rules that if you fold, you get all of your chips, that you had committed, back. After he was outvoted, he took his money and left, while cursing us out for not knowing the rules.

Re(1): PS $215 $1million tourney push AK with 13 players left?
Biggest mistake is to think that just because your opponents have made it this far into one of the biggest tournaments, that they did it by playing solid poker all throughout. Tons of luckboxes in the Sunday tourneys. Any decent player lays down the ATd there to your reraise. At least you went deep and had a nice payday. A similar thing happened to me but on the bubble of a recent multi. Guy could not lay down KT to my reraise (I had AKo). He calls off 90% of his stack and hits the T on the river to knock me out on the bubble.

I was just kidding. Hope you knew that. It does amaze me that the Sunday MTT gets a ton of donkeys who play it like a $3 rebuy. But then again, maybe they qualified via a $3r and figured that if it worked then, it's gotta work now. To me, it's just so ridiculous that I have to laugh.

Re(1): To the people who say they never fold KK preflop....
Last time I laid down KK preflop, it was to two raises during level 1 when the blinds were 10/20. I was certain one of them had AA. Turns out they had AK and AT. And the guy with AT called the AK's reraise all-in. Of course, I would have tripled up. Why did I lay them down' Because the day before, I called two all-ins pre-flop with KK. Went down in flames as AK and A4 meant that the deck still had two aces left (clearly more than enough).

Re(1): How does this guy call?
Easily. Little known fact. A bunch of people downloaded a defective batch of Stars install files a few months ago. In that batch, the "fold" button was missing. Hence, a slew of players, unbeknownst to them, are playing without the fold button. Doesn't stop them from playing though and since Stars is too embarrassed to admit to this glitch, they dish out hands like this.

Dude, first time playing the Sunday 215' Calls like that are routine. You really think that Stars is gonna let you win a hand with all your chips committed and let the tourney run for something like 18 hours''' Time is money for them. New Stars motto: If you're all-in, you'll be all-out.

Re(3): Another Donk Saved by the Deck
Yeah, if he pushed pre-flop, then a coin flip. But I guess he didn't believe you and put you on something like AQ. This happens a lot to me and I always see the guy that got this gift of chips blow it away before the money. But, you keep playing like that and you'll get your money back (or at least that's what the law of large numbers will reveal). Actually I take it back. That guy made the right play. He had 666 in his name. Obviously the devil and he had 66 in the hole. If that's not a sign to push in the dark then I don't know what is.

Re(1): HU etiquette when player goes DISCO?
Nice gesture. Glad to see some class among the players. A similar situation (or maybe not) occurred one time when a friend and I wanted to play HU. We were on IM and we agreed to jump into the next $100 one. I registered but, before my friend could, someone else joined. I told him how that seat was supposed to be for my friend. He makes a wiseass comment like "lose to me fast and you can play him next." I told him I'd lose to him if he gave me my buyin less the rake back. He says "lol". So I play it out and put two sick beats on him to win it. Never felt better in my ...

Of course I now have to contend with Fish after his big score last night. Don't matter, I'll still get in a few more big scores before week's end. Come on isuck123. After you guaranteed a win in the individual contest, you won't even sign up for this one' I've even extended the deadline for entry to midnight tonight.

Re(1): Confessions from a cash game player
88, I haven't played you that often, but I do recall playing you once in a 10r. We were at the same table after the first break. You had I think an average stack. But, then you proceeded to go all-in preflop nearly every hand. You did double up as a result, but eventually busted. I'm not sure what your thought process was there or if that was just an anomaly. Heck maybe you were drunk. Can't fault you, but I remember thinking that your playing style was a recipe for disaster. I've gone on long droughts, but it takes just a few deep runs to make up for a mutltitude of losses. The key IMO is ...

Any takers. I'll hold the money unless anybody else wants to do it or doesn't trust me. Deadline midnight 4/27. I'm in. Participants: RedCowboy Fish Hooked Prize: $200

I think it'd be a nice gesture for the time and effort by Ginzo for the winning team to pitch in and send $100 to ginzo for his excellent work. I can tell that it wasn't something just slapped together and that his effort brought some nice analysis to this event's happenings. Just a thought. I'd do it if I was part of the winning team.

Re(3): April Team Challenge II - Scoring Update
Something like that sounds good, but it should be used for the next time. I'm writing my $100 off for this one. I think we've realized the pitfalls of this team contest when people stop playing and allowing no room for error in the scoring. In any team contest, one player should not have a crippling effect on the entire team, yet this scoring system makes that happen. But, this is fun and I am still shooting for the top individual spot. Maybe for future also, have a prize for top individual'

Re(1): April Team Challenge II - Scoring Update
I could have easily taken the top individual spot this weekend as I took 2nd in a 50 MTT on Sunday morning. When we were heads up, I contemplated giving the other guy a sweet deal to let me win and take the 522 tlb points. Instead I played it out and lost when I had 72 and checked to see the flop of 72x. I slow played it and let the 3rd club come on the turn. Of course he ended up with the flush and crippled me when we got our money in on the river. On another note, for future bets, it'd be nice if you allow the missing slots for each team to be filled by other teammates but at a cost (like ...

Re(5): APRIL TEAM CHALLENGE II - UPDATE April 19TH Pt Standings
The biggest donk was me who was above average in the 100, 10r, and 50r deep into them, and zero cashes. The last one hurt the most as I busted in 29th (27 cash) as Bonvivant instacalls my over-the-top reraise with KT (vs my AK). Of course the T hits on the river. And you calling my all-in in the 10r with K8 (vs my 88) and the K flops. :) That's all right. I'll be hitting the tables again tonight.

Re(1): Best Poker Laptop
I needed a laptop so that I can be mobile around the house and still not miss a hand. What I never liked about traditional laptops is the touch pad used to control the action. If you hit it with a little extra pressure, it acts as a mouse click and you could accidentally hit call if the pointer happened to be over the call button, or similar disasters. The solution: a tablet PC. I have the following: I can move around anywhere in the house (using wifi) and carry it around like a clipboard. The pen allows easier handling of the mouse-controlled actions. I love it. It's not the best for ...
