Re:My view on America...
lol, you got me pegged. An overweight computer nerd. I mean, do you have ESP or something' That's your image of someone who criticizes the Bush administration, yet I'm the militant partisan' Too funny. Ask Waco how much of the "liberal" media I watch. Please shut the fuck up. EDIT: My bookmarks range from Associated Press to Daily Kos, from Fox News to NewsBusters, from Politico to Media Matters, from Democracy Now to Red State, from Raw Story to National Review, from RealClearPolitics to Glenn Greenwald, from ABC to AlterNet, with many, many more. I usually hit them all at ...

You obviously don't understand my statement. Re:A couple of things that piss me off about the Obama zombies
yes, it is my assumption based on several observations from this thread, many others, and countless real world examples of people perpetuating the stereotype of black "welfare queens" that pick up food stamps in their Escalades. Just because my statement doesn't jive with your further, specific clarification doesn't invalidate my point even if it doesn't apply to you. The language you used and the situation you brought up made me think of the stereotype I mentioned. Sorry. Yes, we do owe African Americans, and Native Americans for that matter, something for 400 years ...

Re:A couple of things that piss me off about the Obama zombies
As I said, the government already "takes your money at gunpoint" and "redistributes it to the unworthy" in a gajillion different ways. From massive subsidies creating a dynamic state sector post WWII(internet, cell phones), or Social Security, or defense contracts to build $3 billion submarines to fight a nonexistant technologically advanced enemy, etc. If you are going to couch your whole argument in the "personal liberty from the inefficient tyranny of government spending" angle, then you can't make arbitrary distinctions between government programs. ...

I don't disagree with that, in theory. However, Government is one of the few institutions under some semblance of democratic control, so "downsizing" it isn't really at the top of my list. I just LOL @ this notion some of you cling to, that the "crafty, shiftless blacks" are bleeding us dry while the "honest, hardworking whites" get the short end of the stick. Do we really need to go into the multitude of stupid shit the government "takes your money at gunpoint" and "redistributes to the unworthy" for' Allocating money for healthcare ...

That's a good one. Maybe 8 years ago, if ever. He has been a right wing pandering shill ever since Bush's people put the political smack down on him. He's a "straight talking maverick" or "war monger", just like Obama "is a radical communist" or "appeals to moderates", just like Hillary has "hardworking blue collar white voters that are ready to do her bidding" or that she is a "cold bitch". This is all just drummed up conventional wisdom spread around by the media that focuses on "qualities" or largely false ...

So, we have to "stay the course" (whatever the fuck that entails considering the goals to "winning" are constantly vague and shifting around), and trust the current leadership, who has fucked up constantly, in order to prevent what we caused in the first place' War is peace... I guess. Al Qaeda had no operational connection to Iraq, and now they are a sliver of the total opposition, but we are supposed to believe that Al Qaeda, a radical Sunni offshoot, is going to dominate a Shiite majority(which we have armed in various ways since the invasion) politically, socially, or ...

Re:Is CNN Joking? Level?
U.S. news organizations play on racial fears and stereotypes all the time to create controversy/sell newspapers/increase ratings. The Super Serious Journalists in the U.S. that transcribe govt press releases for stories would never do that. People being interviewed on Al Jazeera and bringing up "blood libel" doesn't constitute "shows" about it.

Re:Is CNN Joking? Level?
Yea, Lou Dobbs and Wolf Blitzer are real bona fide left wing partisan hacks. Please. There is no difference between CNN, FOX, and MSNBC. If you think there is some huge gulf between them then you are willfully ignorant. "OMG!!! MSNBC HAS ONE UNAPOLOGETIC BUSH HATER!!! THEY HATE AMERICA!" If being slightly to the left of the Weekly Standard/Washington Post Editorial page equates to Al Jazeera in your book, then you have a sad, intellectually barren life. Note: WTF does Al Jazeera have to do with this anyway' It's just another news organization that broadcasts in the Arab ...

Re:McClellan whacks Bush, White House
To clarify further. Bush probably does believe in their intentions and noble idealism. Again, as internal documents show in some cases(Britain, Russia), this is fairly common among powers throughout history. When people say "Bush lied.", they are overlooking the far more dangerous, systemic issue of concessions to and insulation of power by the media.

Re:McClellan whacks Bush, White House
Bush obviously gets some slack because he is seen as dumb and more of a pawn in a bigger ideological game, but the rhetoric is the exact same as previous imperial powers throughout history including Germany, Russia, Britain, etc... "We are making the world safe for democracy", "Civilizing the barbarians for their own good." This is not controversial. Yes, the average soldiers in Iraq and elsewhere are good people, and are trying to do good things. Everyone knows this. You should be able to talk about historical facts without people going into hysterics.

Re:Fox News gets PWNED hardcore
The United States IS a command economy and so are a host other 'free market' countries. That's the whole gist. If you can't reconcile that then you are naive. Deregulation mainly pertaining to capital flow beginning in the 70s and accelerating in the 80s. The massive subsidies I'm talking about are the very opposite of free market economy. Huge amounts of resources are diverted to the top strata of society that are already rolling in money in the name of 'security'; for industries that lost their necessity after WW2 and the Cold War. But we have to keep them ...

Just to clarify. The ideological "gulfs" that separate various news outlets and individual journalists/pundits is so slight only to be rendered meaningless in the face of the larger U.S. indoctrinal system. We are talking about a very narrow spectrum of elite political opinion. They all still promote the elite agenda of war and welfare for the rich subsidies.

Re:Fox News gets PWNED hardcore
google "real wages". It's pretty simple. You're really gonna judge wealth and well being on color TVs'. This really is America... jesus. The deluge of money/researchers that have been siphoned off into the state sector since WW2 has a very real opportunity cost to standard of living(trillions of dollars that could have been used elsewhere: infrastructure, health care, etc.). Growing income inequality and real wage decline has been fairly steady since the 70's and accelerated even more when Reagan took office and they dismantled the regulatory apparatus(you know, it only ...

Re:Fox News gets PWNED hardcore
The voting registration/habits of the press is hardly an indicator of any particular slant to media coverage or the overall media narrative. If they are really out at any cost to get George Bush and the Republicans, why is the the White House Press Corps completely silent, and a meager one question to Gates on the recent Pentagon Propaganda story that broke last week(see Colbert quote above). If these are the people that are nefarious enough to violate their basic journalistic principals of objectivity at the expense of the welfare of the country in order to further a personal/political ...

Also, the right has framed this issue so effectively that the left actually bought into it and have caved into giving Bill Kristol and his ilk mouthpieces at some of the most "liberal" news organizations. Re:Fox News gets PWNED hardcore
Lenny, don't cede points and fall into the ideological claptrap of "liberal media bias". The supposed radical, lefty rag New York Times has shown time and time again to be an undiscerning cheerleader for elite power. Elite government(D or R) and media opinion and public policy have been far to the right of public opinion for decades. To quote Colbert: "But, listen, let's review the rules. Here's how it works: the president makes decisions. He's the Decider. The press secretary announces those decisions, and you people of the press type those decisions down. ...
