***Official 2011-2012 MLB Hot Stove Thread*** If they don't want to sign Fielder and try to actually have an offense and win now, then they clearly need to give up and trade Felix. There's 0% chance he's staying after his contract ends and his trade value probably can't get much higher than it is now. Posted in: Off Topic |

***Official 2011-2012 MLB Hot Stove Thread*** Why would something like that be surprising' Which teams gave those contracts to Burnett/Lackey' Pretty sure when those 2 teams aren't involved in trying to sign a player the amount of their contract takes quite the hit. Posted in: Off Topic |

Pujols an Angel I mean its their policy, and they are reluctant to give out contracts like that. I'm not really trying to defend the owners as I'm a fan of the team but not necessarily them, it wouldn't shock me if they are going all out with the new stadium to make sure they tried everything possible to get attendance up, and if it still doesn't work they want to have outs. I heard their offer was not as high as reported yesterday, so maybe the Angels by far had the highest offer and it doesn't matter anyway, but just say the Marlins offer was highest and Pujols rejected it solely because of the no trade ... Pujols an Angel You act like they do this all the time, it happened once, under previous ownership. The only other time would I guess be when they signed 1 player (Delgado) and then rebuilt after 2005 but that was all their own players that they traded off. You're right about a lot of this, as evidenced by the fact that the Yankees/Red Sox really have not been very successful considering what they should be able to accomplish. However, it does suck that the lower end teams are 100% going to either trade off, or let every big star they develop walk in free agency because they won't pay them. Oakland, ... Pujols an Angel Well a lot of them seem to think he's older than he says, I have no idea about that. Generally it makes sense that he can't keep up his current production for 10 years, that's a long time, and if he isn't one of the best hitters in the game, he's automatically overpaid. However, at this point those contracts are the only way you can get a player of his caliber, and he should stay very good for awhile, and I doubt he will ever be terrible unless he has a bunch of injuries. Pujols an Angel Yeah exactly once it started it's hard to fix, they can't change the current contracts so how can they say starting now none of the young players will ever have an opportunity to make that much, even if they turn out to be the best' Posted in: Off Topic |

Pujols an Angel I mean obviously everyone cares about different things, but it's very odd. I can't think of another situation where the player said they cared about that stuff and then didn't sign with the Yankees. It's a big difference for him to do that than Pujols, because Pujols won't be getting another contract anyway and the difference in money for him was so little. But for Wilson that's a really large amount of money that no team will ever offer him again. Of course it's nuts, none of these players should be getting any of this money or these long of contracts. But once one team does it for one ... Posted in: Off Topic |

Pujols an Angel I never thought it was very realistic for them to be able to afford Holliday's contract and resign Pujols when the time came.. I assumed that they would anyway and then the rest of the team would just be terrible for like a 4-5 year stretch. Maybe they will be better off this way. Posted in: Off Topic |

Pujols an Angel I know why he did it, but it's very stupid. This is the only time he can get a contract like this. So instead of just getting another $18m or whatever that 6th year, he'll be a free agent and get some deal that pays him like 9 because he'll be old. The difference in what Pujols is losing isn't that big of a deal since he's getting the same length and the other things he's factoring in can actually be worth more than the small difference in money. Pujols an Angel Guess they really don't wanna play in Miami lol, I can't remember anyone ever taking the lower contract. At least Pujols' wanted the no trade which is reasonable, but Wilson gave up an extra year of $20m, when there's literally 0% chance he will be able to get that much when this 5 year deal runs out, one of the dumber things I've ever seen Posted in: Off Topic |

***Official 2011-2012 MLB Hot Stove Thread*** That'd be weird, only because it seems like saves actually matter when they are negotiating contracts so generally they need to be sure they can get them, he could definitely get a closing job somewhere I'd think. Posted in: Off Topic |
