Nope, not at all. There's no real way to "get them down." They naturally burn up in the atmosphere, but the problem is that with the increasing amount of objects and the increasing amount of old/non-function objects, there's bound to be another 2009-like collision some day. Typically they are now designed to fail/get old w/ some onboard fuel left over so that in the case of an emergency engineers on the ground can maneuver the satellite away from danger. There really needs to be more international coordination, but this is obviously a very difficult problem.

Other satellites are taken into consideration when they're planning orbits, but it's not a huge deal. You have to remember that the space (no pun) up there is HUGE. Imagine a few thousand cars circling the earth on the surface... not very congested. Now imagine that the radius of the earth gets even bigger and you've got a lot more space. However, it's not all as spread out as it seems. There are good reasons why many satellites are in the same orbit (trying to be over the same geography, for example). Well, I think there's a good chance Joepa will retire (although people have been saying this from the 70s looooooool). I do think this is an administration issue and not a football program issue. Spanier and curley were always fuck ups, this just proves it to the nth^nth^nth degree. Hope they get locked up after the case.

FYI I also think that Curley and Spanier should step down immediately. JoePa did what he should have done and reported what another person had seen to his superior. The guy wasn't working for JoePa or w/ the football team in any way. Supremo is right. Any object that's large enough to literally "shatter" the moon into halves or something (which is what tekiller is explaining) would have to be decently moon-sized itself. None of the asteroids in our solar system are that size. The largest asteroid in our solar system is 4 Vesta, and it's only about 0.3% the mass of the moon. It would also have to have sufficient velocity w.r.t. the moon, and there's no reason for that to happen given their orbits. Great post. I grew up in a pretty similar environment and I started to realize the same things as I got older. I believe (haha, believe...) that folks like you and ECU (and even myself) would make good secular humanists. There are some undeniable benefits of getting together every week with friends/family and focusing on life, community, etc. You don't need archaic religions to do exactly that.
