I finally opened up a retirement account if you use this example, add all the proper constraints. you have to add the fact that the bank will crash (just like the market) and that eventually compound fees of 2-3% will take up much more than $25. i understand that most people work hard and don't have the time for other modes of investing, than sure that's fine invest in a 401k. but trust me, it doesn't take a crazy amount of time to get into something like REI . " furthermore, you aren't supposed to ever withdraw that money anyway, its there for your RETIREMENT right' " but this is the whole point about why they suck. if you see ... Posted in: Off Topic |

I finally opened up a retirement account yes, i am the only person in the world, idiot. did you even read what i posted before' clearly you didnt since i have to re-post the same link. and trust me on this one, john c bogle has more knowledge than you about this stuff. and i didn't say you wouldn't make money with 401ks, i said THERE ARE MUCH BETTER OPTIONS OUT THERE TO INVEST IN, it just takes some time, learning, and proper knowledge. however, once you put money into a 401k, you are giving up your control over it, and if you ever wanted to pull it out later to invest in something else, you don't have control over your money in ... I finally opened up a retirement account yeah the one thing i would recommend is to read up on a few different books/techniques on how to spot & get the best deals- i would even recommend going to a local REIA meeting and forming connections. just whatever you do, start off veryyyyy small and trust me, it will beat any 401k. for example, once you get good with it, lets say you put 10K down on a 100k condo cuz it was a good deal. it wouldn't be hard to charge the tenant $100 more than the mortgage (assuming you did proper hw and got a good deal). that comes out to $1200 (12x100) profit and a 12% roi, not to mention possible increase ... I finally opened up a retirement account I stopped reading after this. The whole point of my post was to show that the fees are not minimal. There are 2 really really bad things about 401k's: 1) you're money disappears from you (in the sense that you don't have access to it anymore until you retire) 2) you're money disappears from you in the sense that it will literally start to disappear because of hidden fees/the market this will turn into a huge opportunity cost because OP will eventually have another opportunity to invest later in life, but his "funds will be tied up." for the newb investor who doesn't want to read up and ... I finally opened up a retirement account cuz it's not free money, it's "free money" when you accept the money they give you, you give them something in return that will be very costly to you in the long run.... control over your money. Dude, did you even read my post' How the hell is informing OP that he is going to get jipped in the long run for thousands a "disservice." Even if he does go with a 401k, showing him hard evidence about the fees he is going to face (fees that most Americans are clueless about) is not providing a disservice. Posted in: Off Topic |

I finally opened up a retirement account Dude you have no fkn concept what you are talking about, and if you are really naive enough to think someone is just going to give you free money and bam, you suddenly have "an instant 100% ROI," you are the dumbest person in the history of time. NO ONE IN THIS WORLD is ever going to give you free money, just remember that. When you accept the "free money" of a 401k, it comes with stipulations. When you deposit into a 401k, you are also handing over control of your money to your employer, and you are locking yourself out of your own money for a very long time. And believe me, this will cost ... Posted in: Off Topic |

I finally opened up a retirement account Suze orman's tips are always a very conservative approach- she will teach you how to get out of debt and slowly save up a little bit of money (which is what a 401k does), but she won't teach you how to take your wealth to the next level. 401ks are only worth it if your too pussy to do anything else with your money (as in... simply putting it in the bank) . no matter what type of investment you are getting involved with in your 401k, the hidden fees (money that is being taken away from you that you don't even know of because there is no actual charge) are going to take up a significant portion ... I finally opened up a retirement account i'm sorry but this is 100% false, and i truly feel bad for people who think this way . anyone who knows about finance/the structure of 401ks knows that your short-term gains (i.e. company matching dollar for dollar) are significantly reduced by 1) hidden % fees and 2) the cyclical nature of the market. don't invest in 401ks hoping that "as long as I save and invest in mutual funds like Vangaaurd means that I will have all this money when you hit 50." times have changed and you will get torched big time in the long run. please do a little more research on investing, take control of your ... Great book for a financial newbie to learn about the stock market, retirement, etc? 1) how important it is to learn how to properly sell/market your company (regardless of how good your product is) 2) when investing in real estate, using the 1031 to defer taxes on earnings by purchasing a bigger estate 3) the fundamental reasoning behind why people working for companies make so much less than people who own their own corporation --> employees pay taxes first, while corporations allow for you to deduct all your expenses and pay taxes last. these are just some of the concepts from what i remember off the top of my head- they might seem pretty basic to an expert investor... ... Great book for a financial newbie to learn about the stock market, retirement, etc? Suze Orman's book = good for learning more about different investment vehicles in simple language Robert Kiyosaki's book = good for learning more about the misconceptions we have about money, and what kind of mindset we should develop in order to overcome these misconceptions and achieve financial freedom. Kiyosaki's book won't go into detail about defining investment vehicles like what a Roth IRA is (Suze Orman's book will), but rather it will talk about the overall misconceptions in life that most people have about money. It will get you thinking about everything you haven't learned about ... Posted in: Off Topic |

Joah Kim Noah telling it how it is very insightful post. hate to break it to you bud, but Noah isn't even in the discussion of players that can lead their team to championship-contending level. please come back and reply when you have something intelligent to add, or when Noah becomes the #1 player of any team he is on (i doubt either will happen). I can't tell if you're double quoting to prove something contradictory that I said, but everything looks in tact to me. I will re-iterate: dwight is being asked to improve upon things that Noah will never be considered for as long as he is not the leader of his team. Posted in: Off Topic |

Joah Kim Noah telling it how it is you are either purposely trying to misinterpret what i'm saying, or you are really an idiot. i was saying Dwight is the #1 center in the league, and is with the elites already, while Noah is not. say what you want about dwights game, but he is already respected as the #1 center in the league. i never said he doesn't have any room for improvement- in fact i was talking the whole time about what he has to improve on you dumbass. My point about improvement was that when you compare the 2, Noah is so far under Dwight (because he isn't even accepted as the leader of his team, and doesn't even have ... Posted in: Off Topic |

Joah Kim Noah telling it how it is no. i am saying that Dwight has improved on shit that Noah doesn't even have to think about because Noah isn't the leader of his team, which is why your guys' comparison is really off. Dwight is on another level than Noah, and for them to even be compared is retarded. Let me break it down for you Noah Homers: Dwight is already with the elites, he is respected as the #1 center in the league, and any GM would trade his center for Dwight in an instant. When you have already hit the top-tier level (like Dwight has), you're continual statistical improvement will diminish (because there's only so ... Posted in: Off Topic |

Joah Kim Noah telling it how it is dude, all you are doing is backwards rationalizing everything in order to put Noah into a better light . And what you are saying doesn't even make sense all the way through. You do realize that Chicago has made a ton of trades too right' So if you are going to say Dwight's team has been traded because of his newfound offensive presence, than you can just as easily say Noah's team got traded because of his lack of skills (however, we don't say stuff like that, because Noah isn't even the go-to guy on his team, which is why I brought up the fact that they have completely different burdens). ... Joah Kim Noah telling it how it is yes they are on a skid, but like i said, a few games ago he wouldve been MVP of this league. Dwight knows that people have talked about his shortcomings the last few years, but he took it to heart this past summer and really improved/came to play this season. After they lost to BOS last year, he cut his break short and went straight into the gym to work with Olajuwon for this coming season. To say that Noah has improved more this summer than Dwight is the most ridiculous thing ever. anyone who keeps up with orlando the last few years has seen howard develop into a true leader this year. he is ... Joah Kim Noah telling it how it is you can't compare team records to come to a conclusion like that. orlando is on a skid, but before that dwight was MVP of the league. Joakim, on the other hand, isn't even the best player on his team. and to say Rose/Noah would be a better combo than Rose/Howard is even more retarded. and i said "this year" because dwight's offensive game has improved significantly from last year, and he is more vocal about getting touches/playing around him. you guys can argue this whatever way you want, but Noah isn't even close to howard. any GM in the league would insta-trade him for dwight if they had ...
